  1. Welcome papagrimace and chrissy 2330 and Bianca J!!! We are all in the same anxiety boat for the weekend, huh? I have lost 10 pounds from my 3 week pre-op diet so I'm excited about that. I am finding myself not very hungry during the day any more, so have to really focus on getting my required 70 g of Protein in. We are almost there!! Bianca, SO GLAD you got the early spot on Monday morning!! I am supposed to call late this afternoon to find out my arrival time. When they put me in the system I was the first surgery of the day, so I'm hoping that is still the case.
  2. AprilHansen, you hit the nail on the head for me! I also don't want every conversation I have with people focused on how much weight have I lost, how am I feeling, what is going on, etc, etc. I have a lot of wonderful people in my life, but like you, I just want to get this surgery over with and move on to the healthier part of my life!! My inlaws (lovely people) accidentally found out, and the drama that has already ensued is exactly why I didn't want to tell them in the first place. Supportive and curious, just NOSY!! My own mom was one of the first people I told and she has always been very supportive. We had lunch the other day and talked a little bit about both of our fears, and she said that on one particular morning when she was feeling very anxious for me and worried, there was a HUGE article in the newspaper proclaiming the health benefits of having gastric bypass. I think that was a little tap on the shoulder from God, and for her that cemented that I am doing it for the right reasons, and that while it might be a little scary, the health benefits are like treasure waiting to be found. Blessings to all of you on this journey!
  3. kfh20, I'm glad your time got moved up! Not so long to wait that day. Mine is supposed to be the first procedure of the day, but I call Friday just to make sure and get my arrival time. Might be leaving the house at 4:15, but it will be worth it! And good luck on your test, btw!! crystalk1011, are you on a liquid diet for the entire week? I imagine that would be hard to do! Have you tried adding Protein powder to you broths? Maybe that would help you not feel so hungry during the day. My saving grace is definitely Water. I have consumed more water these last 2 1/2 weeks to float a boat! But I do find that it helps with hunger. girlofsteel, glad to see you on this board! It is extremely helpful and informative. I'm glad to see us all on this date. We will have support on a daily basis and can compare recovery! I had my preop at the hospital this morning and it went great, no surprises. I feel like I have done so much research on my own and reading on this board that I knew most of what the nurse had to say.

    Cramping with cold water?

Wonder if you could add a little flavor to your ice cold Water, see if that helps with the cramping? Not sure how much of a difference it would make, but with our bodies being so mixed up, anything is possible!

    Shoe size?!?!

I wondered the same thing this past weekend. Was shopping at a great mall and found two pairs that I loved! Decided to wait and see what might happen to my shoe size. Too bad we can't all send our shoes to one central place and do a shoe swap! (Might be a little gross, but cheaper than all new shoes!)

    April 2014 pre-op group

Good luck and lots of prayers to all of you having your surgery this first week of April! Just think, this time next week you will be on the healing side and one step closer to the healthier rest of your life.
  7. I know what you mean. I have kept myself super busy today and now that I have about an hour of down time, I'm not sure what to do with myself!! I bought all of my broths and Soups today so I'll add that to the stockpile of supplies. Stay busy this week! We will be great.
  8. Hello all of you seasoned post-op people! I'm wondering if any of you has a tempurpedic mattress, and if so, did you have trouble getting in and out of it post-op? If you have one you know they are amazing, but not exactly easy to get in and out of. There is no "bounce" to give you leverage. You just kindof sink, and I'm wondering if the effort to get up would be too much strain on new sutures internally and externally. We are making preparations this week so I appreciate any experiences you can share!
  9. Thank you healthyme1963. I see what you mean, and I'm going to practice!

    And it begins!

Thank you Kookichu! With one week to go I'm not quite sure what to do with myself!! Going to try to stay super busy and get some of the "heavy" chores done so I don't have to stress about them next week. You look like you are rocking the weight loss!! Congratulations! I hope to have those great of numbers very soon.

    Welcome

Hi everyone! I finally figured out how to join this group, so thanks for setting it up! I am due to have surgery on April 7th, and it is creeping up. I got a little nervous last night because I got onto a post-op thread of people who had the bypass done just this month, and reading about their post-op issues made me a little worried. It is nothing major, but as they say, "This sh#t just got real!" I suggest everyone read through it just to know what might be coming our way. In my mind it made me realize that a lot of that stuff is normal, so not to get too worried about it. Just be prepared! I am a 43 year old Texas girl. Married to an awesome man for nearly 19 years. We have two teenagers; a 17 year old daughter and a 13 year old son. We are waiting to tell them about my surgery until about 2 days before. Still worried about that. I will be a conversion from lap band that I had put in about 6 years ago. The stories I could tell about the trouble I have had with THAT thing. JKPPT, I am like you, nervous that the surgeon will find problems with the lap band removal and not be able to convert. He has told me that in his experience it rarely happens, and he doesn't anticipate it happening for me, but you never know! I'm 4 days in to my two week pre-op diet and doing pretty good. Keeping busy and drinking a lot of Water sure helps. Here's to a safe and speedy surgery and recovery to all of us! Blessings for a wonderful rest of your week.
  15. I was asked to join a group on the bypass board, and when I open the link I don't see a button to click to join. It just tells me I cannot comment on that thread. I also want to send a message to someone I am going to be buddies with and it won't allow me to send her a message. Anyone have any quick fixes for me? Thank you!
  16. What an inspiration you are to all of us! I have about two weeks to go until mine, and I'm so ready to be on the healing side. Keep up the great work, and congratulations!
  17. I have also wondered about all of the vastly different pre-op requirements. I think one of the main goals is to shrink the liver and to cleanse the liver of carb build-up. (That's not scientific enough, but I think that's the gist?) Almost always these pre-op diets result in some weight loss, and the body will heal better with as little weight as possible. So, I think it mainly serves two purposes. Why the vast difference? I'm not sure! Mine seems pretty reasonable so I didn't balk too much. Just low carbs, lots of Protein, and Clear liquids the day before surgery. Good luck!

    Progress Pictures!

I agree, I hope to look as firm as you do after this much lost! I wish I had as much on top as you!! You look fantastic! Congrats.

    Drainage from incision

I hope you get this checked out soon. I have heard that infections can spread super quick after surgery since your body is not at its full healing potential. Feel better soon!

That is amazing! Way to go! I hope you are feeling good.

    And it begins!

Well, my first victory is that by starting my mandatory diet one week early, I am already 6 pounds down!! Yesterday was my first day of the actual diet and I'm already an old pro, caffeine headaches gone (although they really weren't bad) and I have found that I can cure a really bad carb craving with a sugarfree Jello or hot cocoa mix. Sometimes it takes two jellos, but as least it seems to do the trick. I have learned that if I try to have the Protein shakes for an actual meal, they do not do much to curb my hunger. They do help in between meals, or if I am due to have dinner in an hour and am just really hungry, but the effect doesn't last too long. Had a call from the hospital today for my interview. Basic health questions and pre-op instructions. The guy said that I will most likely be called in for an appointment to meet the bariatric nurse at the hospital, so I am looking forward to that. I also have a nurse through Aetna that has called several times checking on me and making herself available for questions. I have a feeling she might become a nuisance after surgery! Overall I feel good and have a positive outlook on things! My Vitamins came in the mail yesterday, and my next project is to seek out protein powders and stock up on essentials for after surgery. 13 days and counting!!! Blessings to everyone!

    April 2014 pre-op group

HeyMichele, that is great! I'd love to be buddies if you are up for it. It seems that there are quite a few of us on the 7th. LESS than 2 weeks away now!

    Better than I thought

Good for you! I almost went to the gym this morning, but my iPod was dead. Terrible excuse, I know!! I will live vicariously through you people who are back on the working out wagon!!

    And it begins!

Started my 3 week pre-op diet on Monday, and it is going great so far. It is not as painful as I thought, and I think knowing that there is an end in sight to my life of being overweight makes it not too difficult to put up with. I got on the scale Monday morning and was a little shocked, but also relieved that I will NEVER weigh that much again! What a great feeling it was!! I also realized my surgery ticker now has a 2 in front instead of a 3, and that makes me super happy! I also found a Protein shake called Oh Yeah!, which is a really strange name, but they are really good. Pre-made, several flavors, and 32 grams protein, 4 g carbs. They were on sale at my HEB, and I am going to buy several more to have on hand. Ordered my Vitamins from Bariatric Advantage yesterday. Things are starting to fall into place!!

    Pre-Op Diet

Hi JPeters! My surgery could have been on the same day as yours, but that is my daughter's birthday, so I opted for one week later! My dr requires a two week pre-surgery diet, but I have chosen to start it three weeks prior just to get used to it and start my weight loss off a little ahead of schedule! The diet is basically the atkins diet. No more than 30 g carbs per day and at least 70 g Protein. My dietician gave me a great packet with some ideas for food, but I have just made my own outline with possibilities, and mainly just keep track of the carbs. The day before surgery I have to be on clear liquids only. I would imagine that the hospital will call you and you will have that same requirement as well. It is to make sure you have a completely empty stomach for surgery day. Good luck to you!!
