    APRIL 21st Sleevers!

Oh, and just to chime in on the support issue? Let me tell you I am fortunate to have a husband & daughter cheering me on and both my older sisters. But when I told my parents, I should be embarrased to even tell anyone - but they said "Do you really think this is going to change anything?" And when I came home from the store, they had left but my mom had left me a homemade pecan pie on the counter. If ever a pie could say something ugly, it was that one. (I didn't eat it ) Perhaps I'm not the one who needs counseling, right?

    APRIL 21st Sleevers!

April 21st!!!!! I'm joining this thread on the tail end, Ladies, but glad to find you all. I am 43 - I wish that I would have had this done when I was in my early 30's. Being almost 6' tall, I have always been a large person, but could hide an awful lot of weight on such a big frame. I was 230 when I became pregnant and 300 when I had my daughter. I haven't left the 300's since. At the height, 360# and I was having knee surgeries. Got myself back down to 315 by doing south beach for 2 years, but I am so tired of fighting to get under 200. This is my 12 day on pre-op diet and I am a cranky, impatient woman. Ready to get this rolling, ready for the changes I need to make even if it means I'm heading down a rough few months. I let myself stay fat for wwaaaayyy to long, so those of you in your 20's making this happen, good for you especially. No looking back!

    Nectar protein drink

I'll second the "fuzzy navel" flavor!! I use skim milk & chipped ice, it comes out pretty darn tasty. Their vanilla, chocolate are just too sickly sweet for my taste, but almost every brand I've tried is too sweet for me. I ordered the "grab and go" box from Bariatric Choice.com for $20.99 - there's 12 of one flavor in a box. I tried the Capuccino also & you know, that's a creamy almost latte in the morning and it's helped me knick the coffee jonesing.
  5. Oh my gosh am I peeing every SINGLE place I goto...I think I'm driving my family nuts. And I completely relate to having to cook meals for my family & 'enjoy' that pre-op shake -- so far I have avoided the movies, I don't think I could resist the popcorn. The other night I had to eat my shake in the other room, My husband brought home TEX-MEX and I just didn't even want to smell it. Short of patience, I would say-- and I feel a little stupid sometimes, like I can't keep a thought in my head. Surgery is in three days so...keeping it together till Monday!

  16. "Diabetes Cooking for Everyone: 250 All-natural, low-glycemic recipes to nourish and rejuvenate" by Carol Gelles While I'm not diabetic, I find the recipes in this book are very good & easy. I used it before considering bypass, trying to eat more healthy -- and now re-visiting it I realize it contains: Chart Comparisons of Nutrient values for 8 Different commercial broths (pre-op) and another for different Proteins (helpful post-op) and an entire section of hot and cold Soups, many of them puree's. Every recipe gives Diabetic exchanges (if you need that) and a suggestion for reducing the fat, Protein or sodium level depending on your needs. The Index in the back gives you Calories, fat, protein & carbohydrate for every single recipe by individual serving. This is great if - like me, you're trying to serve your family some meals that you can eat together. For a long time the 'Green Beans a la Grecque' was our goto recipe -- even my kids loved them. One day my tummy'll get back to that recipe, but till then I'm having a great time exploring the rest of the book. Highly recommended...Check Half Price books (where I bought mine for $7)

How ya doing MrsGloMartin? You have to be getting close to a week into your pre-op? I am six days from surgery, still on liquid diet. I'm getting excited, are you?

    Any April Sleevers?

Do You mind sharing what Protein Shake that is..... That has been the hardest part for me can't find one descent enough to tolerate ugh !!!! And I'm usually not that picky . Butting into your conversation here but you might check out Syntrax nectar -- they are available online or at the Vitamin Shoppe (100 cal/23G Protein/No sugar). I also like Bluebonnet's whey of LIfe (at my healthfood store) 100cal/19g/3g sugar. Depending what your pre-op diet is (everyone seems a little different), you could try an unflavored isolate mixed into broth, make Jell-o with it or add decaf instant coffee, or any sugar free Torani coffee syrups so you get what you like. My trouble is everything with Splenda/sucralose -- I don't like sweet things. So pre-op is pretty challenging. Stick with it - I'm going in on April 21st....just six more days!

    I am scared

My doctor really encouraged me to work with a counselor - especially post op. I am embracing this idea whole heartedly because I know that food is also my comforter. It's what has comforted me and held me back all at the same time. Loosing weight is just part of the battle. Peace!
  22. I havent had my sleeve yet so perhaps I'm not the best qualified to say, but I wonder if you double up your protein in the 4 oz liquid would it constipate you; especially given your limited water intake? Can you sub skim milk for the water with your shake to boost the protein? I found Natures' Best Isopure Rtd Zero Carb drinks @ Vitamin Shoppe. Similar in flavor/look to Gatorade each 20 oz bottle has 40 grams of Protein (Carb/sugar free) -- so if you can only get 4 oz in there's 8 grams of Protein in a liquid. They come in a lot of flavors but grape has been my favorite so far during this pre-op diet. Hope your soon feeling better.
  23. Wow! Coming back from a weekend away & just logged in to see how your surgery went - reviewing all the posts it sounds like you are a WLS warrier girl -- fantastic that things have gone so well (all bloating/gas aside). Really happy for you. Thanks for all the information, I am six days away from my new beginning!
  24. SHA0717 my sleeve surgery is April 21st -- I am so excited to get it done, nervous also but more excited. Not really looking forward to feeling tired but once I see that scale start going down I think it's going to be motivating!! I have a lot more weight to loose than you do (lucky thing) but the journey is the same. Good luck to you. I hope to be able to post from my hospital next week and will let you know how it went. Positive thinking!!
