  1. Me too!!! I tried every otc med I could find plus got a prescription of nexium thinking it was indigestion. I did know that I was getting it way too often but didn't really think I had a hernia. I sure am thankful though. No meds now!!! Woo Hoo!!:thumbup:
  2. Not to say I wouldn't do it and I know everybody is porportioned differently. As for myself, I would have never been able to see mine... But also, that saggy skin comes with age and you younguns hold up better than we do...lol
  3. The same thing happened to me Lafrogura. When I woke up my husband told me the Dr. fixed a hiatal hernia while she was in there. Great for me!! I guess that is just something they do while they are in there.
  4. I am right there with you guys. I had a fill last Monday and it seems like I can't eat anything. This is really wierd but I can tolerate crunchy things better than soft things. I can tolerate yogurt though. I have been wondering if I am too tight but I don't feel bad all of the time and not everything gets stuck so I am hoping it will just level itself out soon. I haven't really known restriction until now I don't think so I am figuring it is just me...
  5. There was absolutely nothing to my psych eval. It was more of just a bs session. She did ask me how I felt about myself. I told her besides my weight, I felt good about myself. Other than that it was just small talk. I guess each one is different but I think she was more or less summing up my state of mind. As far as the surgeries, I don't think that will hinder you at all. You didn't say where your hernias were ut I have had a ton of abdominal surgeries and it didn't impact the outcome in any way. I have BC/BS of Illinois and they paid 100%. I did have to do a 6 month diet first but that's about it. Hope everything goes well. Good Luck!!!
  6. Hey everybody. I got banded May 14th. I just got my second fill Monday and am down 36 pounds. I am so excited about this. As everyone says, this is just a tool to help in this journey, but it is a great tool for me. I have been on every diet and magic pill out there and have probably lost 1000 pounds in my life only to gain back 1100. This is so much better and healthier. Like most of you, I have a strong family history of heart disease, diabetes and blood pressure problems and had been put on BP meds myself. I am so happy to say I am now off the meds and feeling so much better. My bones and joints don't hurt like they did. It is just great. Hope you will all feel the same. Good luck! By the way, I am from Northeast Texas, Texarkana area.
  7. I am certainly no expert but it might be something you are eating also. As for me, I can't eat scrambled eggs without feeling restriction the rest of the day. Oatmeal is another thing that does it to me. Breakfast foods are really hard for me. My Doctor also suggested that I drink something hot in the morning to open up the band. I am 10 weeks post-op and just got my second fill Monday and I am just now finding out what real restriction really is.... LOL Hope this helps you some. Have a good day....
  8. I totally agree with you guys. I love my band. It is the most positive thing I have done for myself in years. I feel so much better and have so much energy not to mention I am off my B/P meds and my back feels better. I am on my feet all day at work and used to drag when I got home, I could barely make it up the steps to the house. Now I hardly ever sit down in the evenings except to get on lapbandtalk.com... WOO HOO I feel alive!!
  9. I thought dang this lady is playing with her Doctor. You go girl...lol Thanks for the laugh, I needed that...
  10. Productive burping and sliming. I learned about it right here. Just type it in the search and it will tell you all about it...
  11. I haven't tried rice but I don't have any trouble with pills of any kind. I have been on Bactrim DS for a kidney infection and they are BIG, but I didnt have any problem at all with them. I guess everybody's different. I am 2 months post-op and have never had PB or slime either and I hear other people talking about it all of the time. Maybe I am just lucky!! Good luck and welcome to the band. I would do it again in a minute. It does require work but it is so worth it. I love it!!
  12. Aunt Lucy I too have back pain and it is so much better since I have lost some weight. I have 3 ruptured discs in the lumbar spine. This is one of the major reasons I decided to have this surgery. That and my blood pressure. I am off my meds now and back feeling better. WOO HOO!!! Aimlagana, you must have a good relationship with your Doctor....
  13. Is it your port?? That sounds like where my port is. I am almost 2 months out and still have occasional pain there, but I have heard that it goes on for some time as it is attached to a muscle... Hope this helps you!!
  14. Just a quick thought for you. I have only had one fill and I feel now like I can pretty much eat anything except scrambled eggs. I don't know why but if I eat scrabmled eggs, I feel yucky and unable to eat the rest of the day. I talk to another lady on here that said she can't eat them either. Not saying that's all of your trouble but you might not be able to eat them either. Good luck!!!
  15. Thanks Rockchick. Besides this port thing, this journey has been awesome so far. I am off the B/P meds, my joints don't hurt near like they were. I can actually go up and down stairs with ease now. Not to mention that I can buy cute clothes for my size now. That is awesome. I had my first fill 2 weeks ago. It didn't take 5 minutes from start to finish but I had it in the Dr's office. I had heard some horror stories about the fill and I was so relieved to find out that it didn't hurt at all. Good luck and keep me informed of the port. I am anxious to know....
  16. I am also having port pain. I had surgery May 14th, and everything went fine. Didn't have any port pain at all until 2 weeks ago. I bent over at work to put something on a bottom shelf and when I raised up, I felt some pretty bad pain at the site. I don't have it all of the time, just at intervals. I can push in on the area below the port and it goes away leaving me to believe it is some kind of pulling of a muscle or something. I don't go back to the Dr until the 28th but I don't think it is anything serious. I was just making sure I'm not the only one in this boat. My band feels fine and I am losing weight so I think everything is fine. Any comments or suggestions will be truly appreciated. Thanks!!!
  17. I understand how you feel. I get the same feeling. When I get like that though I try to eat something that I know I won't have trouble with like soup or something a little mushy. As far as popcorn goes, my Doctor said I was to never have popcorn again after the band. They said it might get hung and cause problems. I know every Dr is different but that was one of the things on my post-op instructions to avoid altogether. Hope this helps you some. Good luck!!!
  18. Allison,I feel the same way. I feel like I could eat alot. Going to get a fill tomorrow though. Hope it gives me some restriction....
  19. Sorry I am so late writing. I was banded May 14th. Got to the surgery center about 7:30 went to surgery about 8:30. Everything went great except she found a hiatal hernia while she was in there and repaired it. I am so thankful for that. Nexium was my best friend before surgery and I haven't had to take one since. Hoorah!! Anyway, I was on my way home by 11:30. I was pretty nauseated for a week following surgery. After reading up on the hernia repair, I have decided it was probably that making me so nauseous. I went back to work 5 days post-op but I had to leave at noon for three days because I was so nauseated. Finally I woke up one day and it was just gone. Thank goodness. I didn't have any staples. Only dissolvable stitches and steri strips which stayed on for 2 weeks when I went for my first post-op visit. Dr Keilin said everything looked great and showed me where my port was. The only problem I have had since then is with my back. I got on the exam table that day and liked to have never got off of it. That is an on-going problem I have though. Three ruptured discs which I am hoping will get a little more tolerable with the weight loss. That's my idea anyways. We'll see how that works out. Ha Ha.. I have lost 23 pounds since I started my 2 week pre-op diet but I haven't lost any in the last 2 weeks. I get a fill Monday and I am so hoping I will start losing again. I am so excited and ready. I haven't had any problems eating but I have followed the diet to a T. But I feel like I am probably able to eat too much. I am eating slow and putting my fork down between bites and chewing the dog out of my food. I think I am just eating too much maybe. Anybody else feel like this?? Good luck everybody!!!
  20. I got banded May 14th. Got to the surgery center at 7:30 and was on my way home by 11:30. The surgery went great. Not alot of pain, I was impressed. More sore than anything. After my Dr got in there she found a hiatal hernia that she repaired also ( I didn't even know I had one), so that was a good thing. I did have alot of nausea for the first week, but I after much research, I believe that is from the hernia repair. I am doing great and feel great. I am so excited to be on this adventure and can't wait to get to a healthier state. Good luck to everybody that is getting banded this week. This is the start of a new life for all of us and it's gonna be great!!!!!
  21. Thanks so much for everything. It sure helps to have people that know what you are going through to talk to. You guys are great!!!
  22. Becky, thanks for your input. You know what, I took Nexium pre-operatively and it has never even crossed my mind to take it post-op. When Dr K did my surgery she found a hiatal hernia and repaired it and I just figured that would help to take care of the GERD, but maybe not. Do you have any problems taking capsules?? Sharon
  23. I had surgery last Wednesday (14th). The surgery was a breeze for me. No complications until yesterday. I feel like I can't drink a thing. If I do, I get so nauseated. Called the Doctor and he said it is probably swelling from the surgery that has the band too tight right now, even though there is nothing in it at this point. Tried to go back to work yesterday and today but ended up coming home both days. Does anybody else feel like this? Every time I drink something it feels like a weight sitting on my chest and I get nauseated. Believe me, I have tried everything. I guess I am just gonna have to sit back and wait for it to heal. I just don't want to get dehydrated. It sure is good to know that I am not in this boat alone. As far as the diet thing goes, my Doctor requires a 2 week liquid pre-op diet and then after the surgery, liquids only for 2 weeks, pureed foods for a week, soft foods for a week and then transition to solid foods. Believe me, I have not varied a bit. I'm too scared to. I love this web site because no matter what happens, somebody has been through it and has a helpful answer. Thanks guys. I appreciate any and all input.
  24. I got my lap band Wednesday. The surgery went great. Dr Keilin found a hiatal hernia when she was in there and fixed it also. She is great and so easy to talk to. I am feeling great. I have some soreness at the incision on the left side but it's only been 3 days, I think that is wonderful. I know y'all are gonna think I am crazy, but I can't burp. Is that common?? Going back to work Monday and I'm about ready. These wall are closing in on me. Have a good day everybody!!
  25. I was also banded May 14th. I am feeling reat today. Anesthesia always zaps me for a couple of days but I am almost back to normal now. Actually I got a two for one deal. While Dr Keilin was in there she discovered I had hiatal hernia and repaired it. I also need to figure out how to update the ticker. I have one on there but I have to figure out how to update it. Anyways I feel good and am looking forward to the next few months.
