    I am scheduled for May

Sorry I am so late writing. I was banded May 14th. Got to the surgery center about 7:30 went to surgery about 8:30. Everything went great except she found a hiatal hernia while she was in there and repaired it. I am so thankful for that. Nexium was my best friend before surgery and I haven't had to take one since. Hoorah!! Anyway, I was on my way home by 11:30. I was pretty nauseated for a week following surgery. After reading up on the hernia repair, I have decided it was probably that making me so nauseous. I went back to work 5 days post-op but I had to leave at noon for three days because I was so nauseated. Finally I woke up one day and it was just gone. Thank goodness. I didn't have any staples. Only dissolvable stitches and steri strips which stayed on for 2 weeks when I went for my first post-op visit. Dr Keilin said everything looked great and showed me where my port was. The only problem I have had since then is with my back. I got on the exam table that day and liked to have never got off of it. That is an on-going problem I have though. Three ruptured discs which I am hoping will get a little more tolerable with the weight loss. That's my idea anyways. We'll see how that works out. Ha Ha.. I have lost 23 pounds since I started my 2 week pre-op diet but I haven't lost any in the last 2 weeks. I get a fill Monday and I am so hoping I will start losing again. I am so excited and ready. I haven't had any problems eating but I have followed the diet to a T. But I feel like I am probably able to eat too much. I am eating slow and putting my fork down between bites and chewing the dog out of my food. I think I am just eating too much maybe. Anybody else feel like this?? Good luck everybody!!!

    I am scheduled for May

I got banded May 14th. Got to the surgery center at 7:30 and was on my way home by 11:30. The surgery went great. Not alot of pain, I was impressed. More sore than anything. After my Dr got in there she found a hiatal hernia that she repaired also ( I didn't even know I had one), so that was a good thing. I did have alot of nausea for the first week, but I after much research, I believe that is from the hernia repair. I am doing great and feel great. I am so excited to be on this adventure and can't wait to get to a healthier state. Good luck to everybody that is getting banded this week. This is the start of a new life for all of us and it's gonna be great!!!!!
  3. Thanks so much for everything. It sure helps to have people that know what you are going through to talk to. You guys are great!!!
  4. Becky, thanks for your input. You know what, I took Nexium pre-operatively and it has never even crossed my mind to take it post-op. When Dr K did my surgery she found a hiatal hernia and repaired it and I just figured that would help to take care of the GERD, but maybe not. Do you have any problems taking capsules?? Sharon
  5. I had surgery last Wednesday (14th). The surgery was a breeze for me. No complications until yesterday. I feel like I can't drink a thing. If I do, I get so nauseated. Called the Doctor and he said it is probably swelling from the surgery that has the band too tight right now, even though there is nothing in it at this point. Tried to go back to work yesterday and today but ended up coming home both days. Does anybody else feel like this? Every time I drink something it feels like a weight sitting on my chest and I get nauseated. Believe me, I have tried everything. I guess I am just gonna have to sit back and wait for it to heal. I just don't want to get dehydrated. It sure is good to know that I am not in this boat alone. As far as the diet thing goes, my Doctor requires a 2 week liquid pre-op diet and then after the surgery, liquids only for 2 weeks, pureed foods for a week, soft foods for a week and then transition to solid foods. Believe me, I have not varied a bit. I'm too scared to. I love this web site because no matter what happens, somebody has been through it and has a helpful answer. Thanks guys. I appreciate any and all input.

    Texarkana Bandsters

I got my lap band Wednesday. The surgery went great. Dr Keilin found a hiatal hernia when she was in there and fixed it also. She is great and so easy to talk to. I am feeling great. I have some soreness at the incision on the left side but it's only been 3 days, I think that is wonderful. I know y'all are gonna think I am crazy, but I can't burp. Is that common?? Going back to work Monday and I'm about ready. These wall are closing in on me. Have a good day everybody!!

    My new birthday

I was also banded May 14th. I am feeling reat today. Anesthesia always zaps me for a couple of days but I am almost back to normal now. Actually I got a two for one deal. While Dr Keilin was in there she discovered I had hiatal hernia and repaired it. I also need to figure out how to update the ticker. I have one on there but I have to figure out how to update it. Anyways I feel good and am looking forward to the next few months.

    Tomorrow's the day!!

Mine is Wednesday. I am a little nervous myself even though this isn't my first rodeo with surgery but it never gets easier for me. I was thinking of jogging pants and a t shirt also. I was told if everything goes well, I will be home by early afternoon. Glad for that.

    Texarkana Bandsters

Hey I was just reading some other posts and was wondering if anybody can tell me if Dr K and Dr H use the "realize" band? I didn't know there was more than one until a few minutes ago, but everybody seems so happy with it. Just curious....:cursing:

Hi Ali. I am a little ahead of you. I am having surgery Wednesday the 14th. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I go tomorrow and sign my consents and get all of my info I guess. I think I am going to choose to have it done at the surgery center. A lady I work with had it done there last week and had a good outcome. I have one question for you guys. I have been reading these posts for awhile now and don't know what "TOM" is. Doesn't sound too exciting the way you put it though..lol Any body have any words of wisdom for me? I could use some about now... Thanks all....

Pre Op Liquid Diet - First Day

I am also on day one of my pre-op diet. I get 3 slim fast optima and one protein drink plus I can have all of the sugar free drinks, jello and popsicles I want. I don't know, I guess my teeth feel deprived of chewing...lol It's going ok though. Like you, I am not really hungry. I thought it would be alot worse. I love food. Like you, my last meal was pizza. I just keep trying to look at the big picture. Surgery date is May 14th. Can't wait...I love this web site, it is so much help..

    Psycho Eval

Mine was great. Very nice counselor talked to me about 30 minutes. She was very personable and we seemed to more or less chit chat. Hopefully you will get somebody as sweet as I did. Good Luck!!!

    Scheduled for May? What Day?

Good, I have 3 computers and tried all of them. The web site was slow on all of them. It's getting better now though. My daughter doesn't live in McKinney, she lives in Texarkana an drives to McKinney to work because the money is so much better. She's an RN and the top pay around here is around 22 with 2 years experience but she is making like 37 there. So it is definitely worth the drive for her. Yes she is gonna be here for my surgery. I just verified that with her today. I thinkill be having it at a surgery center, hopefully won't be there long. Are you getting excited yet? I'll just be so glad to be able to get around better without being out of breath and aching all of the time. Life is defitely gonna look up for all of us. We're on the right track.

    blue cross blue shield

I have BC/BS of Illinois. I had to have 5 years of medical records, a psychiatric evaluation, sleep apnea study and 6 months worth of consistent supervised weight reduction proof. After I got all of that I needed, it was submitted to the insurance company and 6 days later I was called by the office and told I was approved. My insurance pays 100% which is unheard of but that's one of the perks of the company I work for. Thank goodness. I am scheduled for May 14th. I can't wait. It has been a long wait but well worth it.

Is there any way around the 6 month waiting period???
  25. Not banded yet, going to a meeting tomorrow night here in Texarkana, TX. My insurance has a mandatory 6 month waiting period where u have to be enrolled in some kind of weight loss program, so I am going to be waiting a little while. Just trying to find out all I can right now, pro or con. I have my mind made up already just searching for anything I should know... Thanks everybody!!!
