  1. Went to my first zumba class today and I loved it! The only thing is I am not graceful and I don't pick up dance steps easily, though I do have a good sense of rhythm. How many classes until you knew most of the moves? The instructor doesn't really stop to show us the moves because most people are regulars. I just tried to keep up and at least keep moving.

Any tips? I am going to look at some YouTube videos but anything else I can do? I get two more classes at the intro rate of 3 for 15 but I have to use them by Jan 20 so I will get a little more practice.

I would never in a million years have tried this before losing weight with the sleeve. I had a grin on my face the whole time and was so proud of myself!

I know I'm late but Zumba is my favorite cardio exercise. I was addicted after first having the gastric bypass. LOL. I go to several instructors and they're all different. Some show you moves more than others, then some are like you better keep coming and watch. If you keep going to the same classes you will eventually be very fluent in your movements. Glad you liked. :-)

  2. Hello everyone, ok going for the plank challenge this month. I've been succeeding so far! :-) I'm up to 60s today. I'm gonna try and get as close to the chart as possible, I really need more upper body strength. I hope all can see attachment and jump on board if you like! GOOD LUCK!

  3. Shoot I'm nervous about this crossfit training but I'm definitely up for the challenge and excited as well. :-)

It is all good. The coaches will ease you into it. Number one rule is not to compare yourself to others as there will always be stronger, faster or weaker, slower folks. It is about your progression and goals. However, I do admit I look up to a lot of athletes at my box, super impressed by what they can do. I make it a point to learn from others where I can and always remember that today is a day to improve in some way. Not every day will be a good day and some days you have to force rest onto yourself to avoid overtraining or rest because you feel broken. You listen to your body and do the best you can.

Thanks to all for the great info..I will keep you updated! :-)

  4. I'm at 39 miles to my (revised) goal of 54 miles. Did 3 miles on the treadmill this afternoon and burned more calories than ever before by increasing the intensity.

Had a stressful Christmas Eve morning...my 14 year old son has had the flu and he fainted and collapsed in my arms this morning. We got him to the ER and everything checked out OK. Just need to keep pushing fluids and rest.

I thought about what I would have done pre-op after a morning like that...I would have bagged out of the gym, I'm sure. I would have drank many coffees (light with sugar or honey) to get thru the day and eaten lots of food and Christmas goodies. Instead, when we got home, I made some scrambled eggs and turkey sausage, then headed to the gym. Came home and now I'm enjoying a strawberry Protein Shake and ready to wrap some presents.

What a difference 6 weeks makes, huh?

    Merry Christmas everyone!

So sorry to hear about your son but glad everything checked out ok. Hope the rest of your holiday is better. Yes, please push those fluids...so important. :-)

  5. That is amazing!! Thanks for the info!! I called around in my hometown and the crossfit gyms (boxes) here are $70 +. I don't think I can afford that in my budget but I am really wanting to try it. I will admit, it does scare me a little, but I am stuck at 179 pounds and I know for a fact that crossfit will tone by body so I will lose inches & be toned. I want to be ripped like jeans lol

Hey look on.Groupon and see if any places in your area are located on there. :-)

  6. Here is a video from Reebok that defines Cross fit in a very practical manner:

    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NoFlNa6B9fo

It still motivates me today after being an active cross fit guy for almost a year now.

I enjoy Cross fit not only as an incredible rewarding workout experience, but also as a community of friends to grow with. You will get to know your Cross fit buddies quite well as you grow together. It is quite different from the typical gym experience and is more like working out with your squad (military, fire fighting, police, etc) or with your sport team (football, soccer, baseball, etc). You will feel a real sense of belonging after a while with the people you work out with. Everyone will come from different backgrounds and have different levels of athleticism and experience, but they are are there doing the same workout together. Those that finish earlier will cheer on and motivate those that are still finishing. Any workout can be scaled to whatever your current stare of fitness is at.

My son's barber was telling me about cross fit...I wanna try it real soon. I'll use it for toning and my Zumba for cardio.

  7. Fiddle - fat and muscle weigh the same, and why is the fat staying? At this rate I will be all muscle and all fat ........

True. A pound of fat weighs the same as a pound of muscle.

But if you have an equal VOLUME of fat and muscle, the muscle will WEIGH more. This matters because a 200 pound man at 15% body fat will wear a smaller pants size than another 200 pound man at 25% body fat.

This is why I don't give a rip what the scale says. Body fat percentage is a true indicator of health and a lower percentage results in a smaller body.

How do you measure body fat?

  8. I have not been good this month in reference to this challenge I tried to commit to. I'm supposed to be doing th plank challenge and haven't started yet! :( I've been to Zumba a couple time this month but that's about it. I really have to do better but time is just not on my side right now....lol...just a quick vent this am! :) HAVE A GREAT DAY!

  9. I just recently started looking into the RNY gastric surgery. I wanted lapband originally but found that it isn't right for me and my needs. I am confident in rny and very happy i may get it done. Still in early stages but i am so postive and ready for a lifestyle change. But no one around me supports it. All my family and friends keep telling me i'm making a mistake. I will be miserable, i'll hate not being able to eat junk food and fast food like i do everyday, they say i'll be sick all the time and will regret the surgery. No one thinks it's a good idea or even understands why i want it done so badly. My bmi is 47. i'm young, 21, but in need of a serious wake up call and lifestyle change. i believe rny is it and i'm so postive it will work great for me.

Does anyone out there regret the surgery? or had the same fears from family and proven them wrong?

I know i'm doing this surgery for me and no one else and not to listen to them, but it really sucks when all they do is try to talk you out of it.

My mom and sis tried talking me out if it but my kids were very supportive. They were nervous but happy for me. Some people are hating on the low so they will try and discourage you. It's sad to say but it's true. My family is very happy for me now, so I'm thinking they were just nervous about the outcome. I don't regret one day. :-)
