  1. My friend and I had our surgeries 1 day apart. She had a gastric sleeve and gallbladder removal. She has returned to work after 3 weeks off. I had the gastric bypass and was also worried about side effects or complications. It has been 1 month and I'm down 30 lbs since surgery and 62 lbs overall since I started this journey back in March. I've had very little pain and zero complications. I could not be happier with my choice! Best of luck to you! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. I started walking around my yard for 10 minutes 3x a day for the first week after surgery. Beginning week 2, and with my bariatric team consent, I began getting 10k steps a day (5k a.m. and 5k p.m.). I'm now 1 month post-op and walk 3 miles a.m. and bike 3 miles p.m. I'm looking forward to adding swimming into my routine this week 😊 I'm released to do all normal activities at the end of the week, so I'll be adding in strength training soon too. The most important thing is to follow the advice of your dr. Good luck and have fun adding in activities that you enjoy!
  3. I had my RNY on July 3, so I'm almost a month post-op. I'm feeling better each day and learning how to measure and weigh my puree meals. Getting in enough water and meeting my protein goals is a daily challenge, but I'm getting there. I've experienced Dumping once when I mixed original almond milk with a Greek yogurt in my protein shake ( too much sugar for my body), but I'm fine now that I switched to unsweetened almond milk. It's crazy how little sugar I can now tolerate. I'm also battling constipation, so another reason to get all my water in. I've also added Miralax and Smooth Move tea to my diet. It's helping [emoji4] I have zero regrets about going thru with this and look forward to the future with my amazing new tool! Hope everyone's road to recovery is going as well as mine! 5. Instead of meeting for food or drinks or coffee, I now invite my friends out for a walk. My birthday is in 2 weeks and I've asked friends to take a beach walk with me instead of going out to a restaurant. Nobody has complained or even questioned it Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. I went from 311 lbs in February to 281 surgery day July 3. Today is my 2 week post-op surgiversary and I'm down to 258 lbs [emoji4] So I've lost 53 lbs total since Feb. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. I'm 11 days post op and still on full liquid diet til July 20. Yesterday was a tough day for me where I just missed food, biting, and chewing. I got through it with warm broth and sf popsicles, but couldn't stomach another protein shake. I'm hoping things will get better once i can have puree foods.
  8. I pooped Day 5 after surgery. I walked every day to get rid of gas and pain. I mostly walked around my yard for 10 minutes every hour. I'm on Day 9 and I'm almost starting to feel normal again. It gets better:) Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. I'm 9 days post-op bypass. Yesterday I had my 1 week appt and I'm down 23 lbs [emoji4] I haven't been this weight in about 10 years. I'm already very excited that I went through with it! I'm mostly meeting liquid and protien goals, walking my 10k steps/ day, and dr cleared me to ride my beach cruiser on flat trails. Chicago, IL - Would love to do a Midwest/ Chicagoland Bariatric Buddy Meetup! 😊
  11. My recovery has been nothing but a positive experience. I consider myself one of lucky ones because I have had no pain or setbacks. The few trusted people that I've told have been emotionally supportive and helped to get me started on a walking program! Thank you for checking on me.

    Post-OP Walking

I'm having my gastric bypass on Wednesday July 3. I have been working really hard to lose almost 40 lbs in the past 6 months, so I don't want to lose my exercise momentum. Currently, I bike and walk about 5 miles a day. I know biking is out of the question for a few weeks, but walking will be my main source of exercise. How much were you able to walk in the days and weeks after surgery? Thanks! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. My bypass was last Wednesday July 3. I came out fine and ready to get my new life started! I feel excited about being given this opportunity to get healthy! Good luck!!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. I didn't feel like dealing with ANY negativity or judgement pre- op. I wanted to go in positive and strong. My surgery was last week July 3. Eventually, as I see people I may tell them- but I'll be stronger and more confident to deal with any bs thrown my way [emoji4] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post-OP Walking

I am now 5 days post op and I've been feeling pretty good walking a total of 1 mile per day. I break the mile up into short walks around my yard and that feels right for me. I plan on increasing to 2 miles per day when I'm a week post op. Thanks for all of your encouraging words! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. Does your dr know that you can't tolerate even sips? My dr wouldn't discharge me from hospital until I could manage 3-4 oz within an hour. I think you should contact your bariatric team asap and let them know what's going on with your body. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    First Week Tips

Day 3 post op for me. Most of my fluids are my isopure drink. I'm trying hard to meet liquid and protein goals, so isopure seems to be my best bet. Once I'm able to tolerate more than a sip at a time, I'm sure I'll be able to add in broth, popsicles, etc. I took my pain prescription at bedtime and I slept 7 hours! I'm super excited about that LOL I am walking a bit every hour, so I think that may be helping to tire me out at night too. During the day, I sit myself up with a ton of pillows behind my back and my head, and another one across my belly for support. I tell myself that my body has gone thru physical trauma just a few days ago, so I'm supposed to be sore and uncomfortable. We'll feel better with each day that goes by, and if we stick to our program, our rewards will be huge! Good luck to us both! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post op diet

I had RNY on July 3. I have 4 days clear and 11 days full liquid. I am struggling to meet my liquid and protein goals, I can't even imagine eating real food right now. Im still learning how to manage my pain while getting some walking in during the day. I need this time to learn how to eat again, so I'm def not ready for real food anyway. 21. 2 day post-op has gone way better than I expected. I'm taking my fluids, walking, and passing gas normally. My pain is well managed and I've had zero regrets. My dr just dropped in to give me discharge info, and my nurse said I should expect to be free to go by lunch. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you for checking in with me.

    Hobbies

My inside hobbies are cross stitching, journaling, coloring, painting, and writing letters with my fountain pens. My outside hobbies are discovering new urban and wooded trails to ride my bike, geocaching, walking thru flea markets, flying kites, camping, and biking thru the woods. I've always been active, but now that I'm 2 days post-op, I'm super excited to enjoy my hobbies in a healthier body! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Adhesions and RnY?

Good morning, Fluffy! You were right, I did just fine [emoji4] I am officially 1 day post-op from gastric bypass. It's still hard for me to believe that I went through with it! I'm excited to begin my road to recovery and renewal! Thank you for your encouragement. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Adhesions and RnY?

Good morning, Libby63: I'm happy to report that you were right! My bypass was a success. I woke up yesterday and was in minimal pain that was managed well by the nurses. I haven't had anything to eat in about 34 hours and I don't feel any hunger. This morning I will start my clear liquid Diet Phase 1. Wish me luck! Thanks again for your supportive words. July 2019

Hola! I made it to the Loser's Bench!!! My bypass went smoothly. Recovery (so far) has been manageable, and I'm grateful for that. I have talked/ laughed with family and friends, walked my hospital wing twice, and am now sitting in a chair in a sunny spot of my room getting ready to read a book. I am taking it hour by hour, and the past few hours have been good to me. I hope all the other July Losers are having a good day too [emoji4] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
