    Feeling down

I think your body starts to feel run down after enough weeks on liquids, and then having surgery on top of it, and that can totally make you feel down in the dumps. I did, too. Once I was able to start having puréed soups with meat and veggies in them, it made a huge difference in how I felt. Hang in there, you'll start to feel better as you heal. Some of us just need a little extra time.

    moody

It's the liquids. Hang in there, we all went through this. I swear, I damn near dropped kicked my cat once. This is the worst part.

    Head Hunger

I knit. I read. I come on here and read what other people are going through. Anything to keep my mind and my hands busy.

    Bullying Other VSG'ers

I think that's the point, though, quuquui. That may work great for you, but it wouldn't work at all for me. It sounds terribly harsh, and it would make me feel bad about myself. I respond much better to positive encouragement, and understanding when I make mistakes. We all have different motivators. Some people really thrive on that boot camp drill sergeant thing, and some don't. It doesn't mean we're lying to ourselves.
  5. My BMI was 48, and I had high blood pressure, and I have really bad anxiety, too. I got totally freaked out and depressed during the last week or so before my surgery. I was convinced I was going to either die on the operating table, or have massive complications. It was really, really stressful, and I admit, I totally read through every single complication story I could find. It does mess with your head. I hope you feel more calm and you can have a good talk with your doctor.

    Clear liquids and calories

I felt like that, too. My doctor actually advised against sugar free liquids during that time because he said I'd feel better with my body getting energy from the sugar. I still don't think I went over 600-700 calories a day, but it did make me feel a bit less run down. (I'm 3 weeks out and down 16 pounds, so I don't think it hurt my weight loss any.)

    Its real!

Congratulations! I hope you have a smooth and speedy recovery.
  8. My husband and I talked about that beforehand, because we know two people who have had it, and one of them did end up getting a divorce. But she kinda went a little crazy when she lost a lot of weight and started running around, so I'm not surprised that they split. The other one is still happily with the same guy. I think it all comes down to the kind of relationship you start out with, taking care of it a little more consciously with good communication, and realizing that change, even if it's good, is going to take a little time to adjust to.

    100% REGRET THIS SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY

Oh, that's terrible! I'm so sorry you're going through all this.
  10. I had the best thing happen to me this morning! When I got out of the shower, I wrapped myself in a towel and it closed all the way around, even my hips!!!! I cannot even remember the last time that happened. I usually look like a leaky burrito when I get out out the shower. I was so excited that I ran in to show my husband, and he was all "That's... great! What?" He had no idea why I was so excited about it, but he did helpfully point out that I was dripping on the floor.
  11. I'm almost 4 weeks out, and I could go on a cruise. The only thing I'd be careful about would be lifting my luggage, as I'm not supposed to lift more than 15 lbs. But I can eat soft stuff and purees, and honestly I've stopped pureeing all my soups, I just pick ones with soft meats and veggies and chew the heck out of them. Like, 2-3 minutes per bite. So I'd think by 8 weeks, you'd be okay, but I know not everybody bounces back at the same rate.

    Smell!

My husband says I smell different. He said it's not a bad smell, just that my skin smells a little different. The best he describe it, he said I smelled more carnivorous, so I'm guessing it's ketosis? I don't know. But he said it's not unpleasant, and it's not any stronger than I usually smell.

    Peanut Butter

I had some just to get the protein and calories in (never thought I'd say that!) when I was having trouble stomaching shakes, but I had it a small spoonful here and there and I kind of licked it like a lollipop. Once I got to where I could eat more protein stuff, I didn't really need it anymore. But it didn't cause me any trouble as long as I ate it super slowly.

I'm glad to hear you're doing okay. You'll feel a little better every day.

    And so it begins....

I didn't tell anybody in my family except my husband because I wasn't sure if they'd be supportive or not and I didn't want to deal with the potential negativity on top of having the surgery and the lifestyle change. But there are a lot if really great and supportive people here in the forums, and I hope that helps you at least a little.
  16. I had to do clear liquids for ten days after surgery, and I got tired super easily. Now that I've graduated to purees and soft foods my energy level has improved some, but I still haven't returned to 100%. I feel okay, but just kinda like my batteries don't hold a full charge. I've heard this gets better with time. (I hope that's true, because I'm not sure where to order a new set of batteries from.)
  17. Congratulations! I'm glad you're home from the hospital and feeling better. I lived on Popsicles for the first week I was home. Made me very grumpy, but my stomach did heal quickly.

    Drain or no drain?

    No drain.
  19. I was pretty bloated a few days ago, too (my surgery was July 29), but it went away. I think it was just part of the healing process. I've been having a pretty boring recovery, too, and I am immensely grateful for it.

    Bye

I'm almost two weeks post op, and I had some soup that turned out to be spicier than I thought it would be last night for dinner. I was a little nervous, but it didn't upset my stomach at all. That was accidental, but I did ask my surgeon about it and he said people in India have this surgery done and continue to eat spicy food with no problem.
  21. I haven't done gazpacho, only because my doctor said to avoid tomatoes during this phase, but I've eaten other puréed vegetable soups with no problems.

    Ditching the protein shakes

I'm about over the shakes, too. I've started just using whey protein powder and making regular smoothies out of milk and fruit and yogurt and stuff like that.

    What to expect

I think I I woke up a little earlier than they expected me to to because I REALLY had to pee. I was alone in the room and I took off my oxygen monitor and went to the bathroom pulling my little IV stand along with me, and I swear I peed for like an hour. And then I went back to bed and hooked myself back up again, and the nurse came in thinking I was still pretty out of it, and said everything had gone well, and not to try to walk around without help in case I still felt woozy. I was like "Oh.. umm... yeah, sure. No problem!"

    Newbie

Hi Alyce! It's hard to tell, it really is different for everybody. I was sleeved on Tuesday, and back at work the following Monday. I had a pretty easy recovery, for which I'm very grateful. And I have a desk job. But a friend who was sleeved the same day as me by the same doctor was back at work that day, and she's a nurse. She said she did ok, but was just more tired than normal, but that she thought all the walking had made her feel better. Good luck!!
