1. I have the hardest time taking compliments. It's like I'm not used to them, they make me feel awkward, and half the time I'm unsure I believe them. But now that they are coming more frequently and from more people I myself am finally starting to believe, hey maybe they are right. Right now I am trying to learn how to say thank you and take a compliment instead of pretending I didn't hear it and quickly changing the subject, or laughing, or saying "ya right". It's all so new.

  2. Hey everyone just checking in. Started my preop diet at 347, surgery was march 24th. Weighed in at 226 today.

    You look great Kristina!

Thank you so do you!!! I'm visiting my dad this weekend and after I showered I noticed the towel fits all the way around me! Granted it is a bigger bath towel but it's not a beach towel!! Lol woohoo

  3. Hello everyone! This is my first post but I'm stressing and need help. Had gastric sleeve in Mexico on March 1, 2014. Everything has been excellent! Smooth surgery and recovery. In the first couple months I had a few stalls. I've lost 47 pounds so far. Almost 5 months post op! I'm extremely happy with my weightloss but stress about eating too much! Tonight for supper I had a whole grilled cheese sandwich and approx 3/4 cup of Soup. I still think about eating all the time and feel like I can eat waaaaayyyyyy too much! Help! I realize I'm supposed to know when to stop but I don't do please don't be critical of me. Thanks in advance!

Hey there. I had the bypass so idk how much difference there is in restriction but I just tried bread and I was only able to eat 1/8 of a sandwich and 1/2c of soup. Have you had any follow up in the states? Maybe have them do a scan and make sure everything looks "normal" inside. This far out you should be healed enough to feel restriction. What does your primary care physician say?

  4. I love Dr.Kim, he is excellent. He checked on me 4 times last week because he knew I was traveling to a warmer climate and was worried about dehydration (having a hard time with fluids). It was like he took extra good care of me, my scars are tiny, I mean tiny and they didn't even bruise. I'll send you a pic if you'd like.

  5. So I am 12 weeks out and only consuming 400-450 calories per day. My surgeon said I should be getting no less than 900-1000 calories a day at three months out. I don't understand how I could possibly eat that much, I'd have to force myself to eat all day long! I feel like I am sucking at this.

  6. Maybe it's just me but I don't get it.. What is it you are suck suck sucking?

The doctor gave me this breathing toy that I have to use 10 times an hour. Guess that would sound pretty funny if you didn't know what it was for. :)

Ahh the incentive barometer thing!! I didn't use that as much as I was supposed to, which would be why I forgot about it, I couldn't remember to use it when I had it! Lol

  7. Most people don't have time to make their own sauces. I often do crock pot chicken Cooked with salsa, I shred it up and eat it on salads all week. I feel it's important to eat a balanced diet. Sugar and carbs included (complex) in moderation of course. Congrats on you for your loss. Different strokes for different folks. because I still consume a smidge of sugar doesn't mean I am not worthy of the surgery or that my surgery is a "waste". I eat anything I want in moderation. This isn't a diet and I refuse to obsess over and be consumed by what I am eating. I just am overwhelmed by your audacity to criticize someone using taco seasoning. I literally LOL'd. Cheers! ;)

  8. Sometimes community centers offer space for free or cheap. Also grange halls.

Hospitals that have their own support groups might not be prone to helping.

I have a large home and might be up for having a gathering there.

I have direct contact with over 200 portland/Vancouver/Salem wls peeps

Laura your pic looks so familiar, did you happen to speak at one of the kaiser classes in sunnyside?

  9. But what about the Protein? What do you suggest i do for that?

3 months out I'm sure you can consume solid protein by now? Start with soft boiled chicken or fish and then slowly move on to other styles (grilling, etc). Eat what you like - don't go the beef way yet tho! Give that some more time... :)

You should be gettin some protein from whole foods as they said. I have a really hard time with meat unless it's slow cooked in a crock pot and shredded. I made an awesome protein packed turkey chili last night that I'll prob eat off for several days. It sits really well with me.

  10. You know I won't lie I was annoyed with their process for awhile because I was just eager to have surgery. But knowing what I know now I am so very thankful for it. My dad who has had nothin but bad experiences with kaiser for over 20 years was extremely pleased and impressed with the whole process as am I. They really give you the tools you need to succeed.

  11. I went through kaiser here in oregon. They required several seminars and an options or mastering weight management class (8-20weeks), a psych evaluation and a couple meetings with the dietician and social worker, also a couple meetings with the surgeon and several routine tests, preop class. From the start of the process to my surgery it took 15months. They said 12 months is normal here. I was constantly on top of everything too, walking out of one class and scheduling the next.
