  1. Also my cousin who had the DS also has a friend who 2 years ago I believe had a lap band revision to DS and she's not successful at all in the process, either way if you want it to work and are determined it will work, for me in all my failed attempts in weight loss it wasn't the getting there that's hard for me it's the maintaining, for years I could get to my goal but then would gain back plus. From what I've seen and from what I've read I believe RNY is the best option for me. Goodluck on your journey, ultimately it's your decision so do your research, find testimonies of people who have had both and take some time to carefully consider which is right for you.
  2. I also have kaiser here in Oregon and am getting the RNY, my bmi is over 50 and they still wouldn't give me anymore options. Originally I wanted to go with the sleeve. I have 6 family members, 5 with rny and 1 with DS, I'm happy with getting the RNY for several reasons but looking at all of them and they are 4-16years post op, everyone with RNY is maintaining there weight much better, over the long run.

    Good Exercise Music

Yeah it works particularly best when I'm at the gym running stationary instead of on the street otherwise I'm more prone to that annoying buffering.

Vitamin Water Zero Flavors For Sweet Haters

    Metabolism

My NUT informed me that "starvation" mode never actually occurs unless you have 7% body fat or less. And that it's not something that should be worried about, but it's helpful to keep your body guessing, if you aren't losing eat a few hundred more calories. For example day 1&2 800 calories per day, day 3 1000-1100 calories then back down to 800 and so on.
  7. I guess I'm just going to have to go try some, it seems like it would be much harder to get your protein in without the whey, hemp protein has 15g per serving rather than 60g errr
  8. I've asked this question on many threads now and have yet to get a reply! Has anyone tried any protein shakes that are whey free? Like rice, hemp, or soy? How are they? What's the best in your opinion. I'm allergic to whey and am pre op but was searching for an alternative now.
  9. Has anyone had this skin condition pre op or post op? I'm informed it is often weight related. Just curious if it changed with WLS? If you don't want to post feel free to pm me.

    Hidradenitis Suppurativa?

That's the same antibiotic I use, once I became a vegetarian and lost weight through exercise it became noticeably better. I'm pre op and was hoping it would be less obnoxious post op, sometimes it's a pain to keep trekking at the gym during these flares.

What Were Your Favorite Post Op Foods?

Thank you so much for the websites and recipes! Have any of you tried any protein shakes that are whey free? I'm allergic to whey I saw hemp, rice, and soy (I think) protein shakes, I plan on trying them now to see which I like best but any insight if you've tried them would be awesome

What Were Your Favorite Post Op Foods?

I was just interested in hearing what everyone's favorite post op foods were so I could have opinions on things to try. I don't think I'm getting ahead of myself, I'm only trying to prepare and have a functioning kitchen. My eating habits now are great, I've been in the program 13 months now and have lost a good amount of weight on my own through diet and exercise. Although I'm overweight I've never been insecure, I love myself now and will love myself at any weight. But I can tell when someone is being snarky. Even she admitted at the end of my last consultation that there is nothing about my eating that I need to improve on at this point in time. I don't think there is anything wrong with asking questions, especially post op questions when you are pre op, in fact I think it's really important to know whether or not the post op diet is something you are willing to do. For me I am, I wasn't looking for a specific food list, I could find that anywhere on the internet, I wanted personal experiences not a generic list.

    Gall Bladder

I just had my bloodwork and urine analysis done yesterday, they are supposed to be calling me to schedule an ultrasound of my gallbladder pre op, I have already had issues with it and have been to the ER twice so I'm hoping they just get rid of the damn thing

What Were Your Favorite Post Op Foods?

Doesn't you NUT have a plan for you or have you not got that far? You will find everyone on here has a different eatingI plan and time frame. First 2 weeks post I could only have Protein shakes, yogurt and cream of chicken soup, along with clear liquids...sf swiss miss with a scoop of unflavored protein was my daily go to drink After 2 weeks I could only add egg, cottage cheese and ricotta....I made a baked ricotta every day..yum! At week 4 I could have moist meats, I dont have to puree any of my food just has to be really moist...I use my crock pot for chicken and turkey, can have any flaky fish and soy products, no beef I stay on this stage for 4 weeks Because I eat so little I make one thing and eat it for couple days . I just had all my bloodwork done for surgery today and a urine analysis, I've met with the nutritionist several times and she honestly just looks at me like I'm disgusting, she hardly says a word and didn't even want to see my food journal they required me to keep for the past 6 or so months. Unfortunately I have kaiser insurance and she's the only one in the bariatric department in my area. I've asked her about post op foods and she said i will get that information in my pre surgery conference where they will have me try shakes

    40's New Beginnings

Hello everyone, I am not 40 but I was reading your discussions on protein powder, I am having surgery in March and am allergic to whey, have any of you used a whey free protein that has worked well for you?

    Excess Skin

Thank you for your reply!! I got ripped off in the boob department, I'm 327 lbs and can't quite fill out a c cup so maybe I will get lucky! It seems like it's inevitable that i will have loose skin on my stomach but if i can get enough shrinkage to where it looks like I may have just had twins lol I can cover that with clothing, I'm mostly concerned about my arms and legs, I want to be able to wear cute shorts and shirts!
