    5/2

Not yet dealing with regain (I'm only 22 months post-op). But this topic is of great interest to me ... especially the intermittent fasting stuff, which I've heard is effective. I'd love to see links to more detailed and reliable descriptions of intermittent fasting. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, @@bini120 ... ignore that post. I hope your post-op recovery is going great. Welcome.

Having a hard time sticking to my diet

Good for you for asking! Now you know where the goal line is. You can do this. I put myself on a two-month diet prior to the surgeon's pre-op liver-shrinking diet and lost 10 pounds. I averaged about 1,400 calories a day. I made a lot of other changes (in line with the post-op eating and drinking and exercise behaviors) that helped me a lot post-op. Even if this weight loss requirement seems like a drag it really could wind up being a good thing for you. I know everyone here is supporting you. Very best to you. Post-op it'll get easier -- the sleeve is a GREAT tool for both weight loss and weight maintenance.

Having a hard time sticking to my diet

First of all, don't guess about what your goal is! Really, don't guess. Ask. Make sure the answer is specific with regard to weight loss, weight loss rate, weight loss maintenance -- anything else you can think of. Very best to you.

What happens when you eat too much?

Boy, I think the reaction varies considerably! And you've already seen the variety of responses. You should know I don't have any strictures (stomach or esophageal) or other complications. I also have never experienced "dumping" -- and consequently I'm not even sure what it feels like. If it ever happens I'll find out. When I'm over-full a sensation of slight discomfort and pressure in my mid-chest (lower esophageal area) appears almost immediately after a bite or two too much. Immediately, my interest in food disappears. Needless to say I don't keep eating! For the record, I've never thrown up post-WLS nearly two years ago -- not even once. But then I rarely vomited before WLS. I'm boring.

Veterans ONLY please. One year + post op.

I gotta say -- I'm excited about the high level of enthusiasm for a more active vets forum. Really happy to hear from some vets again who haven't chimed in here lately.

    Bariatric weightloss medications

LOL! 62 is not old. Dude! I'm 8 years older than you (the OP). And I have A LOT OF YEARS LEFT! Seriously, my mother died last year at 96 and a half years of age. I expect to live at least another 20 years. I plan to cause a lotta trouble and have a lotta fun during the next 20 years. Auntie Mame's famous saying seems more than appropriate for a WLS message board: "Life's a banquet, and most poor fools are starving to death!"

  18. I see a therapist once a month. He's been very helpful. I committed to 3 years of therapy when I started down this path. I'm almost 2 years into it now.

    Last meal

I honestly don't remember my last big meal pre-op, but I remember my meal last night: Pasta with chicken, shrimp and sausage. I can't think of a single food I don't still enjoy. I'm 100 pounds down, maintaining at 135. Best to you!

    People and their big mouths

I think you've accomplished so much! I look back to when I was obese and cannot imagine I'd have put someone down in public for making progress in the direction of my own dreams. Yes, your "relative"(who sounds NOTHING like you!) may be jealous or uncomfortable about your healthy progress. But saying those words to you identifies him or her as a toxic creature. You got blindsided this time. "You won't get fooled again." They will have to fix themself, like YOU did. Onward and upward.
  21. I've been hypothyroid for at least 40 years. I was sleeved at age 68. I've lost 100 pounds and been maintaining at 135 for over a year.
