  1. I had my surgery on June 28, 2014. I had a friend drop me at the door of the hospital the day of surgery and the day I came home I had a friend take me back to my house and then asked her to leave. I stayed by myself the whole time and started working again at 11 days out from surgery. I think it really depends on one's pain tolerance, etc. I have no one else to care for except myself and a little dog. I did great! My doctor knew I was going to be home alone. I asked all my family not to come. I don't like people hovering when I need rest, etc. I reached my goal weight exactly 11 months out (103 pounds lost) and I have stayed between 105 to 108 pounds lost since then. I hope you do as well! I feel very blessed that I was able to do this. However, I am extremely independent (to a fault).

  2. MsBeauty I use Miralax or Senokot (not Senokot S). I have the same problem. Walmart sells a small pack of the Premiere Protein Shakes. If you haven't tried them since right after surgery, you might get a small pack and try it. I find that it takes me awhile to drink one because they are 11 oz. So, I just take my time and drink them very slowly. I also use Bariatric Advantage shakes and like the banana, vanilla, and strawberry ones the best. I mix them with FF milk instead of Water. You could maybe order a few samples of the different flavors and try that, but you really have to use a blender. Otherwise, it just lumps together. I am not sure where you are located. I live in Texas and we have HEB grocery stores. They sell an HEB brand of FF milk called Mootopia. It has 12 gm of Protein per cup. But, it is a Texas chain. I am glad you found my previous post helpful.

  3. MsBeauty, Have you tried the Quest Protein bars? You can get them at GNC or order them directly from the company. I order them directly from the company online (Google Quest Bars). They have 20 gm of Protein each and they come in a wide variety of flavors. I usually have one of those per day and more when I am traveling. I also keep Pure Protein Bars at all times in case I run out of the Quest bars before they are delivered and those have similar calorie and protein counts. Also, Premiere Protein has Protein Drinks that are 160 calories each and 30 gm of protein. I use those when I don't feel like making a bariatric shake. They are ready to drink. They are also very smooth, not grainy, and come in a variety of flavors. I especially like the chocolate ones. I liked the vanilla ones preoperatively, but have not liked them postop. I also take Biotin 10,000 mcg instead of 5,000 mcg. 10,000 is the recommended dose for people who have had gastric bypass. So, I went with the stronger dose. I also never miss any of the recommended vitamins/supplements. I have lost some hair, but not a lot and I expect it to stop soon since I am not losing as rapidly as I was. I hope this information is helpful. Good luck.

  4. Congrats fellow June sleevers. I had my surgery on June 25 and am down by 82 pounds with 19 to go. I mostly stick to lean meats, Quest Protein Bars, and Bariatric Advantage shakes and I keep fresh veggies in the house to eat to "fill in the gaps" if I get hungry and don't want to add many calories to the mix. I also eat other high Protein "prepared foods" to keep it interesting. It has been the best money I have ever spent. Feeling fantastic! I fly a lot because all three of my kids live in different states (Oregon, Kentucky, New York) and I live in Texas. Flying is a totally different and actually enjoyable experience for me now. Happy New Year! :D

  5. tiffnichole76 That's fantastic that you have already gotten off two meds! So happy for you. My doctor told me to watch the BP closely as it should drop quickly. So, far it has been about the same, but very good this evening! To me, this is as exciting as the weight loss!

  6. Wow! Lots of posting while I did my day sleeping today. Good posts! I am really looking forward to pureed foods next Wednesday. Finally, today when I got up I had lost all the Fluid weight from the hospital plus 4 more! So, I am down 16 pounds since my preop on June 11th. So happy to see the numbers going back down! I am wondering if all the extra Protein and energy it gives us is part of the sleeping issue? Who knows. I am sure this too shall pass. Have a good evening everyone!

  7. marcycw1955 I hear you. I have started calling myself an "every other dayer" because Monday I went strong, Tuesday rested all day, Wednesday went strong, Thursday rested all day, today - Friday I have already been to Walmart. I predict tomorrow I will rest. LOL! I do feel so well that I am shocked when all of a sudden it's time to "settle down." Happy 4th!

  8. My youngest daughter was manager of an Abercrombie and Fitch for years (first in Midland, TX and then Buffalo, NY) until she quit after her first baby last year. That is hard work! I admire anyone who can do it. I became cold natured suddenly about 7 years ago. But, while I was in the hospital they set my thermostat on 75 and I was shaking. I usually keep it at 76 to 78 and still am chilly from time to time. Don't know what started it. Before that, I froze everyone! Do you have follow up lab scheduled for your appt? Always good to make sure you aren't anemic. I'm calling it a day. I hope you have a good one!

  9. tiffnichole76 Thanks! I am starting back to work on Monday too. I work nights 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. I have been trying to stay up all night, but it has been hard and sleeping in the day has been 3 to 4 hours, wake up, go back to sleep for about 3 hours. I need to start walking. I work from home as a medical transcriptionist (may have told you that before). So, at least if I have trouble staying awake I can take a nap. I am also adjusting to using a CPAP machine. Hoping all will stabilize soon.

  10. Thanks to you all for posting updates. My surgery was 8 days ago and when I came home, I was heavier too from all the fluids. With that said, I am down now from my preop examination at the hospital by 13 pounds. Glad to see that not everyone dropped weight by the time they got home and just kept on going at racehorse speed. I wish we all could, but this really helps me get things in perspective. I was getting a little concerned that I wasn't losing. I have not felt hungry. Still on full liquids until next Wednesday. Never thought I'd be looking forward to pureed foods!

  11. My surgery was June 25th. My feet and ankles are still puffy, but I had my first follow up visit yesterday (30th) and got a wonderful report. I was one of those who kept changing my mind over and over, but I am so glad I finally was brave enough to do it! I really feel well other than a headache that comes and goes.

  12. tiffnichole76 Wow! That exercise is impressive! I am feeling much better today. I had to stay one extra day in the hospital because they had to do two swallow tests to confirm no leak and it made me violently ill until about 2:00 a.m. the third day. I have a slight headache, but I don't have bloating or pain. I am also hoping to hold off on the pain medicine until bedtime. I have been up for awhile now.
