  1. HI all!

I am in the DFW area, more specifically, Arlington area. I desperately need a support group to attend; I had my surgery at Barker and was thinking of calling them to see if they have a monthly support group. I am 10 months out from surgery and have noticed a pattern of being OK for a few months, then not OK, being OK again, and now I'm in a down swing again. All I can think of is mental blockage/problems relating to surgery; dealing with image and such. Can anyone help?

  2. Got on the scale today and I am up 4 pounds from last week!!! CRAP!!!! Is this normal, does this happen, how can I not freak out about this?? ???? My brain is going crazy with a million thoughts. Did I stretch my pouch, can I eat more than I should, is this my fault from eating something a little too calorie high? Did I not exercise enough? I feel like I want to cry :(

  3. Hi all, I am one month post op from bypass and all of a sudden I don't even care about eating anymore. I am to the point where I am making myself take tuna or yogurt for lunch, and between 2 Protein Drinks and lunch, if I am eating the right thing, I am getting 90 grams of Protein. Do I have to eat food? I will definitely be bringing this up at my one month checkup Tuesday. Also I still feel as fat as I was before surgery, I feel like my face is bigger and I am always afraid of putting weight back on. Any suggestions? Is this normal? I mean of course I am still big; even though I have lost 30 pounds, I am still 239, which is big! Anyone else experience similar?

  4. I am 3 weeks post op and all I am tracking is Protein. I know there is no possible way right now that I could get that many calories in, so I don't worry about that. I do have an idea of what I am taking in calorie wise, and for giggles, I added it up the other day and it barely hit 600.

The problem I am having is I have not eaten anything else (applesauce, pureed veggies, mashed potatoes, etc) because the mindset I am stuck in is if there isn't a high protein count, why fill up by eating something that is not benefiting my body? Right now my days consist of a rotation between tuna, tofu, cottage cheese and of course my Protein Drinks. Any ideas how I can break this? I know fruits and veggies are just as important for my overall health, but I just can't bring myself to eat them when I see 1 or 0 grams of protein :(

  5. Hi everyone!

I found this awesome list of Protein foods on a vegan website. Of course the old adage of "if you are vegan, you cannot get enough Protein in your diet" seems dashed now. I am not a vegan, but this site does give a lot of good info. Personally I love edamame (soybeans) and they have 29 grams of protein in one cup!!! Hope this helps some of you :)

  6. I originally wanted the duo switch, but the weight I lost put me below the BMI for ins to cover it. I decided to go with sleeve but then on my last consult, they wanted to at least tell me about the bypass and its benefits. The highlights were:

    Better hunger control vs. sleeve

Reduction of certain cancers by about 70%

    Less chance of reflux issues

The ability to still lose weight 12-18 months post op

Less stalling of weight loss and plateaus

About 75% loss of excess body weight

The only WLS that is 100% reversible

I have dropped 20 pounds in 2 weeks and am honestly shocked. They told me to expect 1-3 pounds per week and about 12 pounds a month.

  7. My mom felt the same way. I had surgery Dec 16th, so I was on full liquids when Christmas rolled around. I told her not to worry about and it was the first of many times I would have to control my food lust; mainly because I didn't have a choice anymore! It was rough, and I did have to get out of the house for a while, but my family and the people on here were very supportive ???? best of luck to him!!! I have dropped 20 pounds in 2 weeks and I am still in disbelief, lol!!!

  8. Today I had my first NSV ???????? I have a pair of pajamas with boxer style shorts that have stiff scalloped edging on the legs. They were always tight and I put them on this morning and the legs were loose!!!! I am discovering the bulk is coming off my legs, upper thighs and butt area first. I actually had butt sag in a pair of my jeans the other day too, LOL!!

Thank you all for the support over Christmas. I got through just fine like you all said I would. I am concentrating on getting my Protein, Water and walking in everyday and putting my focus on that. ????

  9. This sucks SO bad. Why the hell did I choose this time for surgery??? My family came home with chicken express and I about lost my shit. It is all I can do not to go out to the kitchen and start just chewing up and spitting out the food. Funny how this surgery is pretty much medically induced anorexia. Luckily I have ED friends who know what its like. I need to break this food addiction and soon. I know it will take time though.

  10. Who was your doctor? I had rny in July 2012. It was the best decision I have ever made. Dr barker did my surgery and his team has been wonderful!

Dr Hodges did my surgery and I and my husband absolutely loved her!! I knew from the first meeting at Barker for my consult I wanted her as my surgeon!!

  11. Welcome and congrats! I was sleeved at Forest Park in September. What a great experience that place was! This is a wonderful resource so I'm glad you found it. There are some local support groups too that you might be interested in. How great that you did this in December; your 2014 is going to be awesome!

I would LOVE to join a local support group. I am out of Dallas though, I am in S. Arlington. Anything out this way? Then again, if its a once a month deal, driving to Dallas area is not an issue ????

  12. Hello all,

I am a week post op from my gastric bypass surgery at Forest Park Dallas. I have lost 10 pounds so far and I am now pain free. I am amazed at the progression I have made in such a short time. I could not be happier, and I am ready for this journey to begin.

I have been heavy all my life, and was the kind of girl who was always told, "You have such a pretty face, if you could just lose some weight." I was always thankful that if I had to be fat, at least I was pretty!! I am the "healthy fat" person; no diabetes, BP, cholesterol, heart issues at all. Most of the reason I chose to have the surgery was pure vanity. I have never been able to shop in a normal store, wear teal summer clothes, a bathing suit, fit in a bathtub, not have my thighs touch, and a whole miriad of other things that I want to do before I die, lol! I am tired of being hot all the time, sweating while I am getting ready for work, and always being the fat friend. However, I do have a family history of all the things mentioned, and I do have a 3 year old son to raise, so here we are!!

I am now at the lowest weight I can remember which was in 2005. I have no idea what I am going to look like when this is all over, but I am ready for the ride!!!

  13. Since I am pre-op I can't answer this except make sure you are following the Dr.'s orders. Just because we feel ok with things doesn't mean they are ok for us to do. Please be safe. Glad you are doing so good so soon after.....

Thanks teacher ???? that is my concern too; I feel just fine, but I don't know what is going on internally.

  14. Evening everyone! I am a week post op. I have felt good enough to try eating some soft solid foods, ie; noodles, thinned mashed potatoes, hummus, things of that nature. My husband is very uneasy of this and I think if my body wasn't ready for it, there would have been serious repercussions after eating. Is this going to harm me or interfere with healing? I promised him I would ask the Dr when I get my staples removed. Was curious on y'alls thoughts. Thanks!!
