  1. Follow-up appointment with surgeon for second surgery yesterday. He's very pleased with my progress recovering from both surgeries and he's very happy with my weight loss. He started me on soft foods, which was awesome. I'd become so intolerant of Protein shakes that I'd just stopped using them. My Protein for several days was almost nothing and calories probably averaging around 100/day. Now, starting with cottage cheese and yogurt, progressing to scrambled eggs soon. Hoping it's smooth sailing from here ...

So happy to hear your recovery proceeding well.

  2. Well, crappy crap. I awoke this am to left shoulder pain again. :-( (8 out of 10). I thought I was past that since I'm 5 days post-op. Not only do I have shoulder pain, but also sharp, throbbing stomach/ bowel pain. Think I'll just take it easy today and rest. God bless each of you awaiting surgery today and the rest of the week. Keep us posted on your recovery. Has anyone else had hot-cold issues? One minute I'm cold and the next I'm hot as hades. Very confusing.

  3. I finally feel human again! Ugh...as bad as it was, I feel so much better today, day #9. So far no nausea today. I'm on my second shake. Even some ounces of Water went down fine. So glad! Pain has greatly reduced to tolerable. I'm so sorry I was not able to keep the list updated for everyone else having surgery this past week and into this week. Good luck and speedy recoveries to everyone going tomorrow! Welcome to all of the new folks! I'm able to move to soft foods this week. Tried Soup yesterday, but was a bad day in general. I don't think it was soup related. I will try either the ricotta bake or some refried Beans tomorrow. I'm down 27 pounds in just over 3 weeks (with a 2 week preop).

Wow so glad your feeling better and doing better. I was worried about you. Happy the the nausea is better and your getting your Protein in. Keep up the good work.

  4. I was sleeved on 12/18 and I am getting in ZERO Protein !! What kind of protein powders are there that have no taste smell or odor that I can Add to everything in order to get protein ...

Hey Simpley_ke, sorry to hear your having such a hard time getting in your protein. I've been using the Syntrax Nectar. I like the fruity flavors and the drinks are thin, and mixes well. Also I really like Chike. It mixes well and is thicker than nectar but I really like the flavors. The banana is yummy. Have you tried the hot chocolate or Soups by Healthwise? Their good and comes in in good flavors. I like Tomato Soup the best. I can tolerate room temperature or below 140 degrees but cold makes my stomach cramp. Before my surgery I did a lot of research on Protein Drinks. I was very nervous about not being able to tolerate anything either. I was able to order variety packs so I wouldn't have to buy a big tub of any one thing. I order from Nashua.com. Hope this helps. It will get better. The recovery is a slow process. This is silly but every since I got home from the hospital I stand to drink anything. I just thought it would be easier on my stomach. So far it is working.

  5. Well the good news is I had a bowel movement. Four days post op. Yeah. I had a shower to. Oh boy, that felt good. In reading recent posts I see a lot of people have only two weeks post op liquid diet. I have four weeks ugh. Also my psoriatic arthritis is better. I'm not in as much pain and my red areas look better and is not itching. Has anyone else had their arthritis doing better?

  6. Prayers, prayers and more prayers. You can do this!! Hugs to you!!

Hope you get out soon. I know I feel better at home than in hospital. The sipping gets better. It's my only job right now resting, drinking, and peeing. I've had bouts with hunger. That is not fun. Sending prayers your way . Keep us posted.

  7. I made it through the first night at home after surgery. I'm feeling ok but get tired easily. I slept better but was up 3X last night to drink and pee. I think that will be my life for the next few weeks. Drink and pee. Drink and pee. I can drink 2oz in fifteen minutes so that's good. My taste hasn't really changed so things I had, I still like, yeah. Nausea hasn't been that bad for me. I was really worried about that. One of the nurses told me to breathe through my nose while I'm sipping my drinks and it has work. Not as much air getting in my system. I'm not tolerating cold liquids at all. It will cause my tiny stomach to cramp and that hurts. Im staying on top of my pain meds and taking every six hours. Also, it takes a long time to get my medicine down. Been working on that for the last hour. My head has been hungry today but my stomach says no no no. Can't wait to take a shower. That's going to feel so good. I'm off work for 4 weeks so I hope by then I've got things under control and eating purée food. Thanks everyone for your tips, suggestions and sharing your own stories. It has made a big difference in my journey. Everyone keep up the hard work of recovering or the hard work of your pre-op diet. Praying for those having surgery next week. Keeps us posted.

  8. I am on Clear Liquids to until Monday! I bought some Protein liquid at pharmacy when I picked up my rx. I poured 2 oz of it in 2oz of Water. I also had ordered the Unjury chicken broth packets. I can only do half a packet at a time. Hubby and I went to GNC to pick up Isopure but they only sold it buy case at the one we stopped at. I didn't feel like going to the other gnc by that point. Non protein drinking the heck out of water, propel grape, and herbal teas! I finally had sf Popsicle last night, and wondered why I waited so long!

I'm using syntax nectar, they have fruity flavors and sweet. Also it's a thin not thick which I like better. Roadside lemonaid and Twisted cherry are my favorite. I ordered a variety sample pack. Each pack has 23gm of protein. I also like the hot chocolate.

  9. The most common reason for the shoulder pain is trapped gas from surgery. Walking is supposed to help but since you're not getting a lot in, I've seen others talk about using a heating pad to the area. I'm 6 days out and declining in recovery (not serious, just feeling worse than better). Drinking the fluids seems like a full time job. Just today I started with the suggestion of literally setting a timer on my phone to take in 2 oz every 15 minutes. I've been feeling so full and didn't know if I was drinking too fast or too much, so following the timer guideline, I feel better about that.

Yes Atlanta Red I had terrible left shoulder pain when I awoke from surgery. I really stayed on top of the pain though the night. Had my surgery yesterday had a drain in and that was the cause of pain. I got the drain out this am and the pain is much less. I'm still sore there but not the sharp pain I had before. So far no nausea and I'm able to drink fine. I started Protein Shakes this afternoon ok so far. I hope to go home tomorrow. Yeah

  10. Surgery was yesterday and the Dr said everything look good and no problems with gallbladder or hernia. Left shoulder pain was off the chart. I tried to stay on top of the pain through out the night which helped. I've been peeing like race horse since they filled me with 5 liters of Fluid before and durning surgery so a lot of good losing 10 lbs on the pre-op diet. Lol. The drain was removed this am and the shoulder pain is all most gone. So far tolerating liquids, ice chips, and Jello. Start Protein Shakes at lunch brought some of my own in case I didn't like the ones here. Been up and walking or sitting in rocking chair whIch helped with the left shoulder pain. Thinking of everyone having surgery today and fri. God bless you. Btw the staff here have been lovely and accommodating. Most of the nurses have been through some type of bariatic surgery themselves so they have a great amount compassion.

  11. Well up and getting packed for the hospital. To all those already there, praying for a safe passage to the loser's bench. For the rest of us today and the rest of the week remember to stay clam and breathe. The loser's bench is right around the corner. To all those recovering keep up the hard work and keep us posted. Thanks for showing the rest of us the way to recovery.

  12. Omgsh! One day down of my 2 wk preop. It was so hard 3/4 the way thru my day. At 7 pm I drank some Unjury chicken broth, and thank You Lord, it was so good, helped w my headaches n pangs a little. I am going to bed now to speed up the process of not havn to b awake :/ I'm usually a nite owl but tonight this owls getting knocked out. Lord willing, day 2 will kinda b bttr but Ik I'm fooling myself cuz I've read it takes about 3, but one-day at a time. Ugh!

It does get better and so glad your working so hard at the pre-op. It was better for me after the fourth day.

  13. So I am almost 1 week post surgery. My doctor is not happy as my bowels have not restarted yet. Has anyone experience this and any suggestion?

Yes walk walk and walk. Also your stool could be very hard and needs softening. Try a glycerin suppository and of course you can always try a brown bomb (warm prune juice and MOM) but could be hard to get down. Always works in about 8 hours. Random thoughts from a nurse.

  14. Thank you to everyone for your concern and positive thoughts. I'm told that I'm healing well and will go home tomorrow. The surgeon could not find the source of the bleeding as it had stopped by the time he went in there. He checked my spleen and staple line and all good. Trying to keep a positive attitude but I'm having some difficulty. I was so positive post op for 4 days.

Yeah that they found nothing and you will go home soon to your own bed. I know that will make you feel so much better. God bless you and you will be positive again.

  15. I'm post up day 5. Getting in all the Protein and Water has been rough. Everyday gets easier though. Can't wait for pureed food! My new smaller belly always has bubbles in it though. Anyone else having that issue? P.S. Isopure clear liquid drinks are disgusting to me but maybe its just me blah.

Try not so suck in any air when your sipping. Swallowing air can sure cause burping. Try keeping your mouth closed until the liquid hits your lips. Hope it helps.

  16. God bless all u soon to be 16th sleevers today n congrats, we will b here 4 u all. And many prayers for great recoverys for our postops:). I've started my 2 wk liq today, here I go. Wish me luck plz to get thru it and any others going thru it, thx n advance. Dec 30th.

Good luck with the pre-op. I found that the first three days were the hardest then it gets better. My diet wasn't all liquids so I'm sure that made it some what easier. I'm coming to the end of my pre-op days. Thought I would do just liquids tomorrow to clean the system before the big day Wednesday. Btw your surgery is on my birthday. I'll be sending out special wishes to all the sleepers that day.
