So glad you are hear. I am also having surgery on 12/20!
I think this will be the best Christmas presents we've given ourselves. A new healthy body.

Praying for your fast recovery and they stop the bleed. How frightening this must be for you and your family. Positive thoughts coming your way.

Hi everyone! Thanks for the well wishes. Surgery was yesterday morning at 9. I was so tired before that from going to bed so late (work) and getting up so early to get to the hospital. The hospital and staff were amazing. Even though there are closer hospitals, given a choice, I will go back there! Surgery went well. He found out that I have a congenital birth defect! I have a diaphragmatic hernia (hernia/opening in my diaphragm. He said he could only do one or the other so he did the sleeve and said I would need to get the hernia fixed at some point. Due to my previous terrible recoveries I made sure they did all they could do. I took the emend when I got to the hospital, then they gave me of ran under the tongue and patch behind the ear. I still woke up a bit sick but nothing like before and it didn't last long. I have 5 incisions. One on my right side where he pulled out the stomach hurts the most. I was on dilaudid at the hospital. I was in no pain as long as I didn't move! I had some gas pain just in mid chest. I did take a gasx. Not sure if that helped or if it just went away on its own. I peed all night long, almost every hour. I was able to do it all myself but needed help reconnecting the SCD boots. I would get up, go to the bathroom, quick walk down the hall, pee again and then get back in bed. I am very fortunate in that I can drink pretty easily. I have to stop myself because too many sips causes a bit of pain in my chest but I'm even able to drink my shakes. I hated everything they gave me as it was all sugar free. I tasted all of it just to see if I could tolerate it, and I could. When I got home, I made a shake with a dose of MiraLAX as I want stay on top of that. I'm pretty much staying put in the recliner in my bedroom. I only take the dilaudid when I have pain while not moving. No catheter, no drain. I don't know when I will be able to add the new people to the list. If someone wants to copy and paste the most recent list into a new reply, they can also add the new folks. I hope everyone is doing well on their preops and postops!
So glad your recovering well and your home recuperating. Good idea about the Mira-Lax instead of MOM. I hope I have very little nausea too. Please keep us updated on your progress.

I was instructed to shower the night before and the morning off with antibacterial soap. Oh and to wash my hair well both time which I thought was weird.
it's really a good thing as our hair is full of germs and we are always putting our hands in our hair and on our face. That's why we nurses have such dry, red hands from washing them all the time. Lol

Have you all been instructed to do a Pre-Surgery Skin Prep? What about applying Mederma post-op?
I too am to wash with Hibiclens (Chorhexdine) night before and morning. It's a great idea because it kills all the Staph on our skin and that can cause wound infections.

I started the sleeve journey in October of 2012 completing 24 weeks of classes. My surgery has finally been scheduled for December 20th. I'm extremely nervous and eating a lot of "last meals." I'm happy to have heard about this group. I look forward to reading all of your posts dde00
So glad you could join us. I also find this club informative and supportive.

I'm not sure if I got a bad batch but I bought a case of the fruit punch and gagged trying to drink it. It has a horrible, almost rancid after taste. I'm hoping Vitamin Shoppe takes returns as they're certainly not cheap! In better news, I finally received my nectar Protein today and am liking that much better. I mixed the kiwi strawberry with Water and crystal light pomegranate cherry. Pretty delish!
Love the nectar protein, lemonaid and cherry my favorite.

I've so fell off on my pre op diet! I haven't cheated or ate any food BUT I haven't been getting in my 64 ounces of Fluid nor have I been doing shakes. I've been doing Soup , and Jello, and yogurt.. Don't get me wrong I've lost 13 pounds since the 1st of December BUT I feel like I'm doing really bad right now. I'm gettin tired of this diet and everything else that's goin on with me I'm gettin stressed. On another note about how long does it take a persons stomach to completely empty?
My sleeve is the 18th too. The pre-op diet really bother me the first three or four days. I've stuck with the diet for the most part and if I did go off it was still for high Protein and no carbs. I've only lost 7 lbs but I'll take it. I've been stressed also but I started to visualize my surgery day from start to finished with a good outcome and that's really calmed me down. Glad to know we'll be together in this.

Its official. I'm 4 days post op. I had surgery on Monday. Thank you for all of the well wishes and prayers. I can honestly say that the pain wasn't too bad. Maybe because the meds right after surgery but when I came to I really tried not to press that heavenly button. I only used it to sleep. The only real pain is from the incision in my belly button. It really hurts and when I try to stand. I also miss the hospital bed. So I'm sleeping on my couch with my back against it. Can't sleep laying down. Trying to get my liquids in but I want some damn food. A grilled cheese, some chicken, something solid. Is this normal? lol. I wonder if they really sleeved me? lol Well I good luck to those going in for surgery, god bless and may your surgery be a success.
Yeah Ms. Yvette your on the other Side and healing. Hope the head hunger doesn't stay around to long. I'm also worried about the hunger afterwards. What have you been typing to ward them off?

Morning December VGS'ers. Well I'm just six days from my surgery date and I'm still nervous about the surgery. This is not my first time at the rodeo ( surgery). So saying that, I'm thankful for this site and the support and encouragement I find here each day. Also, the site is great for information pre and post-op. As I said before the pre-op diet really kicked my butt the first four days until I found the culprit. Since then I'm doing much better and lost 6lbs. Good luck to all on your recovery and and the start of your new life. Blessing to all of the us still waiting and prayers for good outcomes.

Hi all! I am brand spanking new to this website. It's pretty cool! I am having VSG on December 28th. I am super excited, and to say I'm nervous would be an under statement! I am 32, 353lbs. And 5ft 8. I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis pretty bad. I am nervous about my RA acting up during recovery. I also have a 5 year old little girl that I am wondering how to explain my trip to the hospital to. Any suggestions or advice for me? Any tips or tricks on the 2 weeks liquid diet? I am getting a vitamix for Christmas, and I am excited to use it! Thanks guys!
I've spoken to a couple of people about post-op pain from RA. Their statement was the pain was little to none for a couple of months afterward. Maybe the immune system is busy with the incisions and healing the stomach instead of attacking your joints. I have psoriatic arthritis and stopped talking my meds today. I'm one week out. The first three days of the pre-op diet really sucks. Now it's ok and I can handle it.

Well time is now winding down and i only have a week and a few days left... How is everyone feeling about there upcoming surgery...

How are all the December 18th sleevers feeling right now? is it real yet or not really?

Well it seems like a long way off, then the next minute I think "What the Hell was I thinking.". Then I remember that change is good, and my life after will be so much better. I can honestly say the pro-op diet has kicked my butt. Lots of gas and diarrhea. LOL. I just taking this one day at a time. Glad to know others are along for the ride with me on the 18th though

I also thought Caribbean cooler was terrible. Way to sweet for me. I prefer the tart flavors also.I saw on previous entries that both pre-op and post-op patients are having trouble finding a Protein Drink they like or can tolerate. I found nectar by Syntrax on line that I like very much. They have 23 grams of Protein and 25 calories in 8 ozs, and they are a thin drink ( like Skim milk) that are tart and very tasty. They also make a few flavors that are sweet. I really like their lemond-aid, Twisted cherry, very grape, and apple flavors. I still have a few flavors to try yet. What's nice is that they have a group of sample packs you can order for about twenty dollars. I think 10 different flavors come in the sample pack so you can try, then you can order your favorite in a bulk. I also found Chike on line. It's more of a Meal Replacement with high protein 28 grams per 8 ozs. Chike comes in 5 flavors, and banana and chocolate are my favorites so far. They have sample packs also. So look them up and see what you think. I just ordered more of both so I would have them after my surgery on 12-18-13. Hope the info helps.
So I bought a container of the Nectar from my surgeons office gives, I got the caribbean cooler flavor. OMG that stuff was a Hot MESS! It was so nasty to me. and the smell, I gagged everytime I put it up to my mouth.

Yes I agree the caribbean cooler was nasty and sweet. But I really like their tart flavors and I can always make them with more or less Water as need. I really have a hard time with the thick sweet drinks.
