    Had my surgery!

Happy your past the surgery! I am 64 and almost six weeks out.... Everything went well and I am feeling great! I did have to have an unexpected belly hernia repair but other than that it has been much easier than I had feared! I am off many meds and my type 1 diabetes is now requiring so much less insulin. Had lung damaging GERD that is now resolved.. I have dropped 14" and 37#'s .. 3 dress sizes.. The first week is the worst of it! I made my own protein shakes( almond milk and PB2 ( powdered peanut butter) Krogers and vitamin shop carry it.. Mix in pudding or yogurt and protein powder. I now drink GNC lean shakes ( pumpkin spice is great) and they also sell quest protein bars that have 0 sugar and about 5 grams of fat. My surgeon requires 64 oz fluids and 60 grams of protein ( wish I rarely reached until about 3 weeks out) he increased protein to 75-80 after a month. Bowel issues normalized about then also... After adding more foods... Best decision I ever made! Know that the hormone changes do set u off balance for the first few weeks and then stabilize also

    TMJ Pain

I have that also... Moist heat applied to jaw and eat soft foods until you get improvement.. We found our patients did better on Advil or Aleve over a narcotic... ( no anti~immflamortory in pain meds ) Best of luck !

    pre operation anxieties

My surgeon says most will have some thinning even if u take the biotin vitamin.. Keep up on your proteins ( I try to drink 2 bottles of Isopure from GNC ( favorite is apple melon ) gives you 40 grams a bottle. .. Will just take u a long time to get it gone lol

    pre operation anxieties

I am a month out from Roun Y .. I was surprised at how little the pain was.. Took IV meds on day of surgery.. Then vicodan for the next day.. Then nothing after day 3. ( and I had a belly hernia repaired also) I am retired but was out doing errands at the end of week one Best decision I ever made! Good luck to you.....

    Questions!

I would think it would be hard pre surgery! I am a month out of a rounY and can only eat 1/2 cup BUT afterwards that makes u very full.. No hunger that u must deal with before with that small amount! Best of luck! Best thing I have ever done for myself!

    November surgeries?

Judy.. I hear you! Lol. Glad u can get the proteins in.. I am still struggling with that.. Can't get it by real food since you can't eat much.. Gotta drink an Isopure daily .. 40 grams in a bottle .. Apple melon isn't bad tasting
  12. You won't be hungry post op! Just try hard to get enough protein.. Keeps that hungry feeling away....good luck on Thursday! Take a heating pad to hospital.. Helps with the carbon dioxide discomfort ( not too bad and only for a few days ). Walk walk walk!

    Any Band converters under........

Sounds like your on your way! Think positive .. In spite of your history! My surgeons group will only do a RNY to correct GERD! Mine was so severe the cough and acidic juices damaged my lungs! 4 weeks post and GERD gone along with all the meds for it! Good luck and let us all know.....

    No One In The Sixties?

Karen.. I am 64 and worried about age factor! Your determination is impressive and will carry you though this journey! I am 4 weeks out and have NO regrets! Doing ok.. Each day is better .. First two weeks were the toughest but nothing to be concerned with.. I went out for 2 hours shopping at the end of the first week! Off all the same meds you are dealing with.. Just drink and drink.. It gets easier after that 2nd week.. I still drink constantly but u almost need to! Enjoy those Northern Lights ! Can't see them from Ohio... Dyan

    November surgeries?

Many of us are all working through that first month! I am 4 weeks out from Rouen Y on Wed... Still can't reach that goal of 64 ozs of fluid and 75-80 of protein! Decided to just do the best I can each day.. It must be working since each day is an improvement from the one before...eating most foods now as long as it is under 3 grams of fat and 5 grams sugar! Can barely tolerate those protein shakes but they do build up that needed protein goal. I had a hernia repair also. A surprise has been how much of a habit I must of had as I want to reach for a liquid during my big 1/2 cup meal... Hormones have now stabilized as my mood swings are gone also.. " drink, walk, eat.. Drink , walk and eat again! Alarms on my cell go off all day! Off most meds.. BP, diabetes type 1 but much lower amount of insulin, GERD and lipids meds gone.. 26# but stalled all week with only 1.. Nurse said this is normal .. Thinking of you all !
  16. My first time on the site but then again I am only 9 days post op...kinda feel like I have been in a class called Dyan 101... so much to tract and cell alarms going off..when to drink, when to stop, when to take a Vitamin. Never in 64 years have I devoted this much time to just me. LOL Perhaps what put me into this journey now? Discovered a great NEW product that is low fat and low sugar... it is actually powered Peanut Butter... mixed with a bit of sugar free hot choc. mix I can now finally drink a Protein shake that hides the Protein powder taste from my nose. Anyone else tried it?

    Pissed Off Husband

Lisa's hope: I had roun y based on my GERD ! My surgeon says that it the best at resolving this issue. Mine was so servers that it caused a chronic cough and lung damage! Three weeks out of surgery I have no GERD and am off all GERD medicines!

    hurting can't sleep

Bobby... Glad your home and on your way to a healthier life! Walking and my heating pad helped... And belive'n everyone on the forums that said each day is a bit better... I am almost a month out and not regretting a thing! I knew the more I moved the quicker my bowels would figure out their job! Went from nothing to the full runs the first week.. Once I could add a bit of food in it just kept getting better! Had a use a round of miralax at the end of the first week... Makes since though if all your doing is liquid! The pain does get so much better! The regrets at this point ran high and I cried a lot.. Lol. Doctor said it is the hormone changes but at 64 I thought that would pass me by... Nope! But it only lasted about 2 weeks.. I had to adopt the thought daily of "BE AS YOU ARE"... Drink from a sippy cup helped my gas pains.. Know that no one really sleeps well at your point.. It is ok.. Love those little daily naps!
  21. Mine was when I realized I had been sitting with my legs crossed and had not done that in about 30 years!!! Congrats... To you

    Pissed Off Husband

Goldy girl: sorry to hear of your set backs! Glad your back on the mend again..I am riding that same issue.. Just so hard to get the needed nutrition and fluids in .. Waiting for my labs back ( I am 3.5 weeks post op ( Rny) and hoping my dehyration is not also a trip in for some IV fluids..... Not uncommon my team tells me ;-( I am out doing things for about 3-7 hours a day but my energy level screams too much! Lol. My BP after getting home from shopping today was 74/47! Back to elevating legs and bottled spring water! Dr says not tap water.... Huh?? Feel stronger soon.. Drink drink drink right?

    November 2013 Post Op

3 weeks tomorrow! Feeling good other than riding too close to the edge of the dehydration wagon! I find I am still not able to get enough fluids and protein! Getting better each day... Seems I think I can just go Christmas shopping for hours AND FORGET TO DRINK!! All this is a learning lesson... Anyone else having trouble with the goals set by surgeons? Sometimes I wake myself and try to drink a few ounces every few hours... May be helping but I am tired from that now! Hope all you are improving a bit each day! Holiday party with 50 family members today! Survived .... :-). Lol
