Pre-Op Diet - Guilty Heartburn?
So I have been on the pre-op diet for 6 days and this morning I was 9 lbs down from Sunday when I started. Today was a tough day of temptation at work, it was June Birthdays day and they served some incredibly beautiful gourmet cupcakes - I was successful in staying with my protein shake! But today was also a celebration for half of my department who just finished a 6 month long training program. So everybody walked across the street to the local BBQ joint and the company was paying for beers and food. The table was loaded with pitchers of beer and bbq! Luckily one of the platters was smoked chicken breast, dry rubbed no sauce and the ribs were dry rubbed as well. So I had an ounce of chicken and 3 oz of pork. According to MyFitnessPal that fit in to my 350 meal for the day. I drank only water. When I got home I had veggies only and was within 100 calories of my target calories for the day. But now I have terrible heartburn! I have been chewing tums and drinking lots of water but oh man this burns! I am thinking that my very bland diet for the past 6 days is now paying me back by reacting to the first flavorful thing I have eaten all week. Or I am feeling guilty for enjoying that smoky protein and I am having sympathy pains! Acckkk - running for more tums!

day 1 of pre-op liquid diet
Keep up the good fight - I am day 6 and toady was easier than yesterday, which was easier than Wednesday, etc. The first two days were really tough and I am still getting bouts of head hunger but it was easier today. Today was the "June Birthday" day at work and I "got" to attend the department Birthday party which featured 2 dozen of fancy gourmet cupcakes in all kinds of flavors and I was able to drink my zero calorie Sobe Lifewater and not feel too bad. I just posted on another pre-op diet discussion where a gal said that week 2 is even easier - so I feeling better about being at home all weekend, rather than work where I am not staring at my husband and 17 year old who both can anything they want as much as they want and never gain weight...

How long do these headaches last?
I had the headache for two days, and was dizzy slash slightly nauseated for 4 days - I am on day 6 and finally I felt pretty normal. My pre-op diet consists of 3 or 4 shakes of 160 calories or less each plus one light meal or around 250-350 calories, not to exceed 870 calories daily. About the 3rd day I was pretty tired of chocolate shakes, so I finally branched out and tried an orange flavored Protein shake (Syntrax nectar Sweets Fuzzy Navel) with Water and it was pretty good! I also tried a Click Mocha drink and it was passable. My point? The water based shakes are much lower in calories, so I wasn't hitting the 870 calories, I was averaging high 600's - mid 700's, so I was adding a greek yogurt or cottage cheese after dinner. I have lost 9 lbs in 6 days. This weekend is my last weekend as my surgery is on Wednesday - so I am doing a last chance house cleaning marathon and shopping for all my Clear liquids for the 1st week post op. I really hope this busy schedule will help me avoid the stress of constant food availability here at home, I really relied on being at work this week because I could lose myself in work and avoid temptation. So I am hoping that @@Jennifer0609 is right and the 2nd week is a lot easier!

Pre-op tests that I am having anyway
I am going to go out on a limb and say that the cost @@Travelmego insurance would want pre-approval for is the WLS, not the pre-op tests. In fact I bet they are betting that something in the pre-op tests will exclude the surgery - because they are Dr. Evil like that :-D Good Luck and Best Wishes Travelmego!

How Much Weight Did You Lose On Your Pre Gastric Sleeve Surgery Diet?
On Day 4 and I have lost 8 lbs already, this is tough though!
-
Pre-op tests that I am having anyway
I am self-pay too, my insurance excludes bariatric surgery, to get your tests paid for the Doctors code the comorbidities, like heart burn, high blood pressure, blood work results, etc. sleep tests are based upon visuals like your neck size and being tired, they find a way and none of it is unethical because these test are not WLS specific.

Wearing cpap after surgery?
My surgeon has said I have to bring my CPAP or they won't do the surgery, if they elect to keep you overnight they want to be sure you are oxygenated during sleep, that is my understanding. ..

Any May 20th surgeries out there?
Try mixing done of the isopure with a sugar free Gatorade, you get your hydration and protein, it helps to mask the taste.

weight loss plateau after sleeve? Is it normal?
Hi Karen82, I suggest searching the forum, there are tons of posts regarding plateaus at 3-4 weeks and so on. Lots of info at your finger tips on BP!

Approved
I am June 11th too - when I have second thoughts, I dig deeper and I have been finding that my anxiety is over the pre-op liquid diet and then realizing that I will be on liquids only for about a month altogether with the post op stages. When I think of the possible end result and the issues the weight loss will address I get confident and happy. .. so try to focus on the end result, eyes on the prize and all that! It is helping me atleast :-D

What are your thoughts regarding Bananas?
"No bananas do not contain latex. But around half of all people with latex allergy have allergic reactions when eating particular foods including avocado, banana, chestnut, kiwifruit, passionfruit, plum, strawberry and tomato. This is because some of the proteins in latex that cause latex allergy are also present in these fruits. Common symptoms include tingling in the mouth, stuffy nose, itchy eyes and wheezing..." from Yahoo Answers

What's the story behind your profile name?
It is the simplest description of me, county + "gal" + zip code, to be honest I use it for websites I am not sure of, well nearly 10 months later I am still a BariatricPal.

Do you miss anything about being Fat? (You're Old Body)
My surgery is 3 weeks away, I have wondered what I will miss and what I am ready to never experience again. I just got back from a business trip that included a 12 hr flight on a 747 to Asia, I fly economy of course, and the economy lavs are super tiny. My body brushed either side to sit on the toilet, I couldn't bend over far enough to wipe the front much less the back, it was humiliating and more than a little gross. I prayed that I wouldn't have to have a poo, you know? LOL. I never want to be in that situation ever again. Of course I had to ask for a seat belt extender on a few of the legs, And I was terrified that I was encroaching on my row mates seat. I never want to be in that situation ever again. I could go on about being a gargantuan women in a sea of tiny Asian people, but that is just unnecessary. What do I think I will miss? Now I don't expect to become Miss USA after surgery, but I have joked in the past that no one ever wonders who I slept with to get where I am in my career. Because I work in male dominated field, I am often the only woman in the room or in a travel group. Sometimes I wonder if it would have been easier/different if I had a hot bod, but then I remind myself that these guys treat you like a compatriot because they don't think of you that way and that makes me happy. So I wonder, if I lose the weight, will that change? Will they see me more as a woman than as a skilled professional? So I guess I might miss my fat coat...

Sleep Apnea Evaluation - Unexpected Requirement
As I get more used to it, I really think I feel the difference, my throat feels less dry than after a night of snoring, I swear I feel more rested and wake easier even after only two nights of use. I was mad at first, thinking what a waste of time and money, but I do feel better! My insurance initially rejected the claim as medically unnecessary, but the Dr. says that they are writing a letter showing my obstructive apnea and hypoventilation to get the claim approved. I have a follow-up study the end of May. I am calling my WLS Center today to see if this clears me as my surgery date is June 11th.

Need help finding protein shakes/powder! Recommendations?
Ahh. I have only seen the smalller size, are the larger sizes less intense? That is the issue for me with small size, just a little on the chemically side...

Sleep Apnea Evaluation - Unexpected Requirement
Thanks Beeteroo, I used my new CPAP last night, and while I was more aware of it, I did sleep well. Not an OMG night of sleep but better than my average night. I am more optimistic that once I get used to the "face hugger" a la Aliens, that my sleep quality will improve. The Dr did say that I will probably only need the machine for a few months....

Sleep Apnea Evaluation - Unexpected Requirement
Update I I Ok so the Doc says I have severe obstructive sleep apnea with low oxygen and failure to up oxygen levels after an apnea event, plus hypo ventilation. So I am waiting to be fitted with a fashionable CPAP machine as we speak. Lovely. The only thing I can do is turn around my attitude, so I am happy that we have discovered the problem, that the office is working my insurance issue and that I may experience what I have read can be life changing sleep after receiving this machine. And guess what? I get to install it myself :-D

Need help finding protein shakes/powder! Recommendations?
For the isopure, they are tiny little bottles, I mixed mine with Sugarfree Gatorade or Crystal Light and you can't even taste the bad taste, I like Premier Protein RTDs from Costco and Syntrax Nectar Sweets too. You can buy sample packs from places like Bariatric Pantry.com

Dating after Weight Loss Surgery
About the fish pictures, I think that some guys only take selfies when they have caught a fish, harvested a deer or something similar. Or maybe, they are Chandler Bing and can't smile when a camera is otherwise pointed at them, LOL. Anyway, maybe they are good guys, just saying... signed the a wife of a great guy with a ton of bass fishing selfies :-D
