  1. Hey there! Akron here! Had it at summa! Not the best experience there to be honest. The program was amazing but not happy with my surgeons bedside manner at all :( but I have lost weight so that's a plus!

I have had very many surgeries. It is awful when you have a surgeon that has the personality of a pencil. I think in general, surgeons don't have a great bedside manner. I was fortunate with Dr. Hassan, he was caring and listened. I know in the past I have had surgeons with the "God" complex. They were arrogant and treated me like I was an idiot. I believe most of us, know our bodies and know when something is wrong. I'm sorry that your experience was not great. I'm glad that the program was amazing! Your weight loss is wonderful!

  2. For 3 weeks that's good!

I have had MULTIPLE abdominal surgeries in the past. I have had at least six laproscopic surgeries for uterine issues (sorry about spelling) and I have had four major abdominal surgeries, each time I was opened from hip to hip. The last time I had to have surgery, they could not do with scope so I had to be opened vertically. The scar tissue from these prior surgeries is severe. Not to be gross, but to do the bypass, he had to free up at least five feet of intestine. My intestines are totally encased in scar tissue and he could not even get to them. He said that they are like a bowl of spaghetti encased with so much scar tissue that it would not have been safe to even try. I think he is amazing because when he went to do the sleeve, my stomach was also surrounded by severe scar tissue. He managed to get through that and complete the sleeve. I think most surgeons would have took one look at my insides and closed me up. lol I think you are in incredible hands. You are a beautiful young woman and I think you will do amazing. Keep up the hard work, it will be worth it in the end. You feel free to email me anytime. I think you have my email. Please keep me up to date. Do you have a surgery date yet? YOU ARE GOING TO DO AMAZING!

  3. Awesome I'm so excited! I don't have any balances to pay. Which is good! I'm nervous they will deny me. Cause I'm not losing a lot of weight like people normally do before the surgery..

I would not be concerned at not losing much weight before, just do not gain weight. I know this sounds funny, but if you are losing weight before surgery, remember, our insurance, as far as i know, will deny if your BMI goes below 40. I am sure you will be fine. I am three weeks post op with the sleeve (wanted the gastric bypass) and I am now down almost 19 lbs. I want it to happen overnight. It won't. Don't worry!!!!

  4. That's truly awesome! Did your insurance pay for it? And if so what kind do you have?

I have Medical Mutual like you do. Before they will hold your surgery date, you must have any remaining deductible and co-insurance paid in full to them. I was lucky that my balance remaining for both was minimal. We are lucky, some insurances require six, nine or 12 months on medically supervised diet. My plan only required three months. My BMI was not over 50 so I am fortunate that I didn't require liquid diet for weeks before. I believe that is out of pocket and is expensive. You will do great! Don't worry!

  5. Anyone from cleveland ohio?! :) if so I'd love to hear your experience and who your surgeon was! And anything else lol

I had surgery on December 27th. Dr. Chandra Hassan at SVCMC. I was scheduled for a gastric bypass. I knew going into the surgery that there might be complications and we might have to revert to a sleeve. I have had many, many abdominal surgeries so I have severe scar tissue. He was not able to get through all the scar tissue and free up any of my intestines. We talked right before surgery and I asked him to not let me come out of this without either surgery. He managed to do a sleeve and I am very grateful. He was very kinds and caring. I think anyone who chooses Dr. Hassan will be very happy with their procedure.

  6. Pre-opt testing on December 10th and surgery scheduled for December 27th :) I have jumped through so many hoops, so many requirements. I am just worried something will go wrong on testing day and I will have to be re-scheduled. Has anyone or is anyone going to SVCMC? Dr. Chandra Hassan? I welcome any comments, advice or opinions! Thanks and GOOD LUCK!
