    Hurting right now.

I really hope the skin changes. Good luck on your surgery today.

    My mexico experience

I also find there is this weird moralistic tone in US healthcare toward the whole weight loss thing. I went to Mexico and they were just kind of matter of fact about it, like they were fixing a bone or an appendix or something. It wasn't preachy or judgemental, like "naughty naughty you must not be trying hard enough." I couldn't justify the 20k to have surgery in my city, vs a 2-hr plane ride and 4500 bucks.

    Weight Gain

I'm not a vet, but one strategy I have for myself is that I only eat at certain times, which prevents the grazing that stalls my loss. Try choosing maybe 4 times of day to take in calories. Back to basics on Protein, etc., and only give yourself like a 15-20 minute window to eat. You did this before and you can do it again! There is no expiration date on sleeve success from what I've read

How to deal with people, specially family

Tell him at a calm time and place, without kids around. Something like: "I have something important to tell you, and it means a lot to me, so I'm asking you to please hear me out. Can you give me that opportunity? I want to be the healthiest wife and mom I can be, but I have struggled time and again with diet and exercise. I'm a good candidate for weight loss surgery and I've researched it a lot. It looks like it will be a powerful tool in helping me commit to a healthy lifestyle." Start with talking about vision: what do you want your life to be and why. Anchor that piece before you move to specifics on when and where. This is a really big thing to spring on a spouse; I wish you the best of luck.
  5. I've read conflicting info on which bmi is healthiest. One study said low in the range is usually best unless you're muscular, another said 22 is good. Another said 19 is most attractive (sheesh). I am shooting for 22, but just curious on everyone's thoughts...

When do you start losing weight?

It took me about two weeks to start, then month 2 was better than month 1

    Having trouble with the diet?

Ricotta cheese with tomato paste, and refried beans with Taco Bell sauce worked for me. By the time pureed foods rolled around, I wanted nothing sweet.
  8. So I know we shouldn't do compare-sies, but I am 25 lb. from goal. My hubby gets sleeved next week and wants to lose 65 lb, but I'm pretty sure he'll hit goal first, lol.

Eating with Coworkers Who don't know

Tell them you're doing low carb so you bring your own food.
  10. NothingUpMySleeve

You know you lost weight when

When a coworker asks, "what's up with your pants?" because your slacks are falling off you...
  11. Well, I would feel like I was kicking butt if I lost as fast as you. I am at my 4 month surgiversary next week and I'm just now at 30 lb lost. I stall if I eat more than about 600 a day now. I am very sporadic with exercise, though. It's hard seeing people lose huge numbers, but there's really nothing to do but plug away and remember that every day you're getting thinner, whether the scale knows it or not.

    Need advice

I wasn't necessarily a huge volume eater, either, but the sleeve has helped me. It really limits consumption. I do get very sick if I eat much sugar, which basically killed my sweet tooth. I liked facing fewer malabsorption issues, but I know people who've had great success with both, provided they aren't grazers.

Are you open or private about surgery and why?

My family knows but I don't think it's anyone's business at work. Nor is it lying when I say I'm eating low cal low carb because I am. That said if I worked with someone who was really struggling and asked me about it, I would maybe tell them.

Does it just put you in a NEW stage of awkward?

I'm almost shocked at how much no one notices. Occasionally a waiter says something, but out of politeness. It's pretty much a non-issue.
  15. Too much sugar kills me but particularly ice cream. I don't ever want ice cream again. Shudder.
  16. I take additional potassium. It seems to be a common deficiency.
  17. I will be looking into this as well. I'm sick of big tatas. They are 34ddd now, so we'll see how it goes after 30 more lb.

    Feeling a bit alone ..

My surgeon has a private Facebook support group, but I know there also groups on spark people and maybe through your bariatric practice. There is no way I could have been successful without the daily chats in my support group. At a certain point, family and friends cant quite understand the fear, joy and just general upheaval involved.

    Excited but...

Well, I had a blood clot. It sucked and really hurt, but I'm ok now Andy blood work has never looked better. I just hit three months out.

    I think I like stalls!

If anyone likes stalls, they can have all of mine! Any takers? Anyone? Bueller?

    Goals not met?

I've seen many posts of people exceeding the surgeon's predictions--has anyone here fallen short of their expected weight loss? If so, did your surgeon have any advice or changes for you?

    My mexico experience

When you got to scripps did they explain what should have been done differently? How scary...
  23. NothingUpMySleeve

I'm in the"regretting my surgery mode!"

It gets so much better. I had a lot of bitterness and anger in the first 30 days, but now I'm 3 months out and feel ok.

    Help with dresses, pics please

Wrap dresses are usually pretty flattering. Banana republic has a line in every color. I bought a snake print wrap dress at kohls last week.
  25. I went to dr illan with baja bariatrics. Not as well known as some, but his patients were all fans. I found him to be reputable and professional.
