  1. At that kind of activity level I'd suggest getting closer to 100 oz of liquid in. Also, up the Protein grams. Lower the exercise. Try it for 2 weeks and see what happens. This is a marathon/lifetime things not a sprint, right? If we go too far our body tends to rebel and shut down the fat loss. There are many excellent reasons for exercise being healthy. Fat loss is not usually one of them.

    Self-Pay pre op requirements?

My medical requirements were pretty much the same except for the waiting periods which were instantaneous.

    beyond furious with Humana

It is in your best interest. It raised your blood pressure and caused all kinds of reactions inside your body to get ready to fight.....

    beyond furious with Humana

That is horsehockey. My self pay in Neenah WI for a bariatric center of excellence was $18,400. At the very least ask the hospital/surgeons to charge less down to the same cost as a self pay off the street.
  5. I would suggest if you subscribe to the carbohydrates leads to insulin release which leads to fat retention that you... Limit carbs to 70 or less grams per day Aim for 100-120grams of Protein Aim to fill in the balance of calories with fat (about 80g fat) This should be pretty appetite suppressing as the protein and the fat will keep you feeling full and steady in energy.

    When did you stop losing?

You could try exercising less instead of eating more. There are a great many reasons to exercise, weight loss might not be one of them. Very intense, sweating bullets, can't talk intense. I will try upping my intake. Easier said than done. Thanks guys!
  7. Not enough exercise. I do drink Green Tea. Other than that I have been real good on the food intake and fluids end. 24lbs lost preop - not much exercise 26lbs lost 1 month post op - not much exercise I have accepted another position so my commute per day is cut down by 80 minutes total. I believe I now have no excuse to not exercise at least a little bit daily.

    50 pounds...

Fantastic! I too broke through the 50lb barrier. I agree with what you say. Way to go!
  9. No worries. Forgive the small slip and move on. Acknowledge your human-ness and then live life.

Low Carb Diets & Building Muscle

It is hard on the body to be catabolic and anabolic at the same time. It has been suggested to me to focus on fat loss and maintain muscle. build the muscle back later. We, by nature, know how to pack on the pounds.....have faith it will come back later.
  11. As I understand it it is also one of the two rules that if you do not follow you will impeded or even reverse weight loss. Adding liquid will contribute to making all foods sliders - foods that do not "stick" to your stomach keeping you full. I agree it is a PITA, but it is an absolute requirement. Eat Protein first Avoid liquid with the main 3 meals - 30 before/30 after Drink at least 64oz liquid bonus: Move daily if you are able This formula will work for everyone who actually follows it from my readings here. Almost everyone who has major setbacks is NOT following these three points. So, do you want to be healthy, look better? or not? Choose one and accept this is the price to be paid for good health / better appearance. You knew this going into the surgery. Embrace it. Accept it. Move on with life.

From one extreme to the other!

Us T2 diabetics really need to regulate our carbs in a measured way.....like it is medication. Exercise and what you eat in terms of carbs ideally should be kept constant in timing and amount. (easier said than done I know). Yes, please consult your diabetic Doctor - too low is very dangerous and not to be trifled with. Too high can be dealt with on a sliding scale. I'd suggest a discussion to that effect with your PCP or Internal Med diabetic Dr.

    From the album: Before/After 47lb

Ok, so I liked Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville in Vegas!
  14. Call the surgeon. Could be something problematic. Be sure - call and see what they say.

    Ask LilMissDiva: Anything.

Are you happy? Vanilla, Chocolate or strawberry? (this is tongue in cheek)

    Too few calories?

If you are getting your 64oz liquids and 70g of Protein daily - you are golden. Protein shake or Isopure RTD 20oz are nice in that they fulfill the protein and the liquid requirement. Exercise: Move for 30 minutes - any movement is better than none. Your results are saying you are doing ok.

    goal weight?

I would suggest doing skin caliper tests or something else to learn what your lean body mass is. The scale does not really indicate health. Aiming for a body fat percentage is a more realistic and healthier way to do it.

    Is my NUT crazy?

If a T2 diabetic I would take great umbrage in NUT's guidelines. My experience with NUT's 17 years ago when my T2 diabetes was diagnosed was to eat 2 cups of raisin bran with 1.5C skim milk for Breakfast. The other meals were even worse with carbs. Needless to say my blood sugars got worse not better. This was galactically stupid advice I have no trust nor respect for most NUT's as all they do is parrot what they learned in their books. I will resist anything other than saying as a T2 diabetic anything over 60/70 carbs a day is way too much. Even that (per Dr. Bernstein's diabetes Solution) is a bit high. He recommends 6g carb for breakfast, 12 lunch, 12 dinner. Ultimately it is your choice, your body. No one cares more about your health than you. I would think upping the calories to 1000 would be a good goal, especially if exercising pretty vigorously.

I Decided I Want To Live At 47Yo

3 week checkup today Surgeon, nut and NP were all overjoyed with my weight loss. I am now moving onto mushies....yay. 46lbs loss since Thanksgiving, 22lbs lost in the last 20 days from VSG surgery. Exercising on treadmill 20-30 minutes 6 times a week out of seven (allow myself a skip day). Diabetes is held in check with diet and exercise - not yet "cured" but no need for meds when eating this way and exercising. Averaging 680 calories per day, 33 cho, 99g pro, 19g fat, 84oz liquid daily. Only downside is after I charge the hill and get into my work after 6-8 hours I hit a wall and have to basically lay down.....I was told today this is normal through about 6 weeks post-op. Anyway, the journey is underway. Thrilled to be here, thrilled to be heading a healthier direction. I wish everyone happiness and great health.
