  1. You need to speak with your doctor. My insurance required I lose weight (25lbs) BEFORE I could have surgery. It also required that I be at least 100lbs over weight. My friend wasn't required to lose any weight.... All insurance companies are different. check with your doctor and good luck :)

  2. Why not do both. Go ahead and go to your doctor...start the process...have the surgery AND have your family as a support system. You will still need someone to walk/exercise with, and it's more fun with friends/family....and on the plus side - the odds are stacked that you will win the money too...(ok, maybe that might not be fair..lol)

  3. Please hang in there. Please. It took me 6 fills to get to my zone....I too was all depressed and ready to give up, just last week, and low and behold I go to my doctor yesterday and I had lost 9 pounds...YOU CAN DO THIS.....Slow and steady wins the race. Talk with your doctor please don't give up...

  4. 50 lbs is very good and better than average. You're about 7 months out and at this rate you could lose 100 lbs by your 1st anniversary. Where would you be without the band? Less or more??

2muchfun - thanks for the "wake-up"...you are absolutely right. If not for the band, I would be heavier than I started 7 months ago....I wouldn't be able to walk 2-3 miles a day - shoot 7 months ago I was in so much pain, I could barely make it from my car to my office....so thank you, all of you, for reminding me....it may be a slower weight loss, but it will also be easier to keep off in the long run. AND, I'm much better off today, than I ever was 7 months ago...Thank you...I don't know what I would do without you all...

  5. HELP! I'm feeling discouraged with the process of my weight loss and close to loosing my mind. I had my surgery on January 17, 2014...my first fill wasn't until the end of Feb or beginning of March. I have 8cc in my band (not sure what size band I have, I'm afraid to ask cause I'm getting close to 10 cc and then what happens if a 10cc band is what I have) I have only lost 50 lbs so far...one of my questions is, what is "normal" for the amount of pounds lost in a week for a lap band person? I keep thinking that if a non banded person only ate 1200 calories, they would be losing weight faster than I am :( My head is being hard on me right now and telling me I am failing, and made a mistake by having this surgery....who knows, maybe I am/did..... maybe I'm not doing something right. I try to track everything I eat...but sometimes I do forget. I do know that though I'm staying at 1200 calories, I am not getting the amount of Protein I should get and I'm not sure if that would make a difference NOR am I getting in my daily Water as instructed...

Another question is what if it takes 10ccs to get me to lose weight...what happens when I get to my goal and all the sudden 10ccs aren't working anymore..are there any other options?

See I told you my head was messing with me in a big way....

  6. Hang in there....I felt the same feelings you are having :) I had a fill in May - lost 10lbs the first week and 1/2 then nothing for 6 weeks...asked my doc for a 1/2 cc (total of 8) and can tell a difference. Do I still have to stop myself from picking pu the bag of chocolate and devouring it - you bet I do...but thankfully with the lap band I CAN DO IT!!!! It helps me make better, healthier decisions....and for that I am forever thankful. Do I still get feelings of doubt? I sure do...but I also know that if I eat healthy and continue to take my daily walks that I CAN and WILL lose this weight I've carried all my life.

You will find this forum to be very helpful and encouraging. So keep coming back here when you have questions/fears/anxieties...:)

  7. I'm there with you. I'm scheduled to go next week for a fill (hopefully)..I didn't get one last month because I had lost 10lbs and my doctor was all excited that I was 'in the zone'....the entire time I'm saying "but I lost the 10lbs the first two weeks after my fill, nothing since then"...still no fill (I think I have 7.5cc's in my band - I've lost count :( )...so I tried to get excited and pumped and even said "I'm in the zone"...but I've only lost 1lb since last month (sometimes the scale will say 2-3 depending on the time of day grrrr) or 6 weeks if you could from the last fill...I'm aggrevated and discouraged and wonder how if someone without a band only ate 1,100 - 1,200 calories and lost weight.. WHY AM I NOT?????

    Losing faith here :(

  8. and let me tell you do NOT make the mistake of eating after a fill....last fill I got, that next morning I was going to eat some yogurt so I could take my meds, well the yogurt had small pieces of peaches in them, it got stuck and I was MISERABLE for about 3 hours....I'll never ever do that again....

  9. you're not even gonna feel the needle. my doctor rubs something on my skin that numbs it within seconds...so I never feel a thing..and everyone else I've seen talking about it on here their doc does the same...so no worries...

  10. I'm with you. I had a fill two weeks ago and lost 10 lbs...but now, it's slowed down to pretty much nothing and I'm hungry....:( I know 10 lbs in to weeks is nothing to snarl my nose about, but have mercy don't stop on my now...I was just enjoying it...lol

Good luck, keep me posted on what your doc says...

  11. Girl I feel your pain. I got a fill 2 weeks ago and I only THOUGHT I knew what sliming was...let me tell you, I've only made it thru maybe 2 or 3 days of not having a stuck episode. And these are "episodes" like I've never had before my band was properly adjusted. Before it might hurt for 5 minutes, shoot the first episode I had after my fill lasted 2.5 HOURS..I thought I was gonna die and may have even prayed that I would...lol

On the bright side, the pounds are coming off rather nicely...now if I could just remember to chew chew chew and slow down...lol

BTW...what/how much food are you eating now if I may ask?

  12. labwalker, speaking as someone that just got a fill on Tuesday and thinks she is to tight..it's miserable..all I can eat is yogurt and for some crazy reason my Protein bar. I'm hoping it's just that I'm not chewing enough or eating to fast...afraid to say "hey take some out" when all I want is to be in the zone and losing...how long should I give it till I call the office and ask for an unfill? I mean is it possible that my tummy is still irritated from the fill and that's why "real/healthy" food is sticking? HELP????

I think everyone trying to get to the green zone wishes doc's would do more fills... but once you experience being really stuck, you'll appreciate why they go forward with fills slowly rather than aggressively.

  13. I feel your pain...I haven't asked my doctor what size band I have because I know it will just stress me out. I have 6.5cc and I really thought the last fill would "be the one"....but alas it wasn't...I'm so afraid I will have 10cc and still no restriction...I just don't know what I would do...I've experienced that if it's "good" for me, then I feel some restriction, but if it's bad, seems I can eat and eat and eat;....I try my best to stay away from things I shouldn't eat for this very reason....not always successful, but I sure try...I guess I should be thankful that I CAN stay away from those "unhealthy" things now because in the past I had no will power to stay away from those things...guessing I should be thankful for the new will power :) Also, I can't wait till May 23rd to get the gel put back in my knee so I can start walking again....I'm so done with the pain and ready to get on with my life..can't help but think if I were able to walk/exercise the weight might come off quicker than it is with just dieting....

Not sure how long you HAVE to wait...but my doctor has me come in once a month...wish it could be sooner, especially when you know theres no restriction... :(

My Dr tells me there is no limit as to how many or how often I can get a fill. Banded Sept 30th, had my first fill Nov 1st and I've had at least 10 fills since then. Last week I had a fill and is at 10cc in my 10cc band. I'm having no restriction at all. I have in the past gotten a little restriction a week or two after I've had it. I'm so discouraged. How much more will they be able to put in my 10cc band.
