    Liquid consumption

48+ ozs minimum per day. And technically yes, shakes count towards the total.
  2. 7 months out and I still avoid drinking at least 15 minutes before a meal. While liquids move through the stomach fast, it still takes a bit of time. If you eat too soon after drinking it has the same effect as drinking too soon after eating. If dilutes the food allowing it to pass through the stomach too quickly.

    Tomorrow is the big day!

Dont let the last minute jitters get the best of you. And after surgery make sure you get up and walk. Its not going to feel good, it will be uncomfortable, but it will save you misery later on. As soon as the anesthesia wears off and you can keep your balance, get up and walk the hospital hallways. When you get back to your room, watch some TV, nap and get up and do it again. I probably did a dozen laps around the nurses station the one night I was there. I even motivated a couple other WLS patients who saw me keep going in and felt the urge to join me on my walks.

    unkind drs

While hearing things like this is hard, for all of us here it is/was the truth. I had a doctor years ago that his main solution to many of my complaints was losing weight. While it was hard to hear it, I knew it was the truth.

    Calling all the fellas!

December 23, 2013 here. down just over 90lbs since surgery. 100+since pre-op diet. By the way, there is a Guy Room forum if you scroll down a bit. Some pretty good conversations down there.
  8. The hot chocolate is probably fine. But Peanut Butter,, nope, it is very, very high in calories and sugar. Not worth it. I really would not mess with peanut butter at all during your weight loss phase. There is a product called PB2. Its a powdered peanut butter that you add Water and stir. For me it satisfied the peanut butter crave and has a fraction of the calories. I get mine at walmart. If you prepared it with a little extra water, small bites of this would probably be ok on full liquids.

Very minor topic, but Surgery Scars?

Wait a second, This is the guys room. We dont worry about scars.
  10. The one and only reason for the pre-op diet is to shrink the size of your liver which lies directly over the area being worked on and can easily be damaged when being moved out of the way. Maybe some surgeons are just confident that they can do the job without damaging the liver.
  11. Bob, Clarification request ... are you saying you think there's something inappropriate about being in "the closet" about WLS? No not at all. But when hiding the fact you had surgery is becoming more stressful than being open about it, it can be detrimental to your overall mental health, and possibly cause someone to make bad decisions just to keep it hidden. I never said it was inappropriate.
  12. It seems to me like the trouble your going through trying to hide the fact you had WLS is more trouble than coming out of the closet, Maybe re-examine your reasoning as to why you want to hide the fact you ad WLS.

Do you really get drunk quickly?

For me , yes. I definitely get buzzed quicker. But as someone said it seems to go away quicker also. Since surgery I have picked up what could be said is a bad habit. Me and the wife have really gotten into craft beer. I usually only have 1 to 2 beers a week so it has not affected my weight loss at all. I usually stick to Stout beers so the carbonation isnt an issue. stouts dont have very heavy carbonation, plus i drink them so slow much of the carbonation dissipates by the time I am done.

    Kidney stones

It probably has more to do with your old diet than anything. Soda and antacids(Tums, Rolaids) will do it to ya

    Is it truth or myth?

7 months out and still eating 1/2 a cup of 4 ozs per meal. So ya, if you take big bites then 4-5 bites could be realistic.
  16. This is what I typically pack for my workday. My day usually starts off with a 2 egg omlet with half a serving of cheese (190 calories total) The content of my lunch bag is dannon light and fit yogurt (80 calories) Premier Protein shake (160 calories) single serving beef Jerky (100 calories) 4oz of turkey chili (120 calories) but can vary, morning star black bean burger or turkey or chicken breast pickled egg (great snack) 70 calories Many days I cant eat it all when I get home I may or may not have a serving of some sort of dense protein, depends of the day this usually brings me well over 80+ grams of protein and keeps me satisfied all day long
  17. I took my pills whole with no issues. Just go slow and dont take them after you eat

    My typical lunch bag.

I buy them. Most grocery stores carry them. Exact same nutrition as regular hard boiled eggs. I like them due to the convenience. I hate peeling eggs. Plus they are pretty awesome. I never had one til about 5 months ago. I even made some develed eggs out of them. Was pretty interesting.

    My typical lunch bag.

We make it. Usually use 3lbs lean Jenny-O ground turkey. The wife uses a mix of mccormick chili seasoning and I forgot the other one. 1 to 2 cans of red and kidney Beans, and a few other things. If anyone is interested I can get the wife to write out the recipe. We make a pretty big pot once a month and I freeze about a dozen 4oz servings for use the following weeks.

Great looking snack, too bad they are only available in the mid west.

    How they lure us...

Now and then I walk through the grocery store and pass by the bakery section. For me its the breads/bagels that catch my attention. I think to myself how I use to love these, then I look down at the new slimmer me and realize I love that more.
  22. Yup lots of guys here. 7 months post op.
  23. Talk to the priest and explain the situation. If they cannot make some arrangement, you may want to rethink where you go to worship. God wouldn't make you go through a ritual that can make you sick.

    Constant Bathroom Issues

It took me two weeks before things turned and then I had a week or two of constipation. One thing to watch out for is fats. The mayo your using could be a trigger. I used kraft fat free mayo. Give that a shot. And pay attention to the fat content of anything else you eat. Also yogurt is good for digestion.

    Gastric sleeve and dumping

Dumping is when undigested food passes into the small bowels. Gas and diarrhea is the result. For the most part sleeve patients dont usually have to worry about this except when you eat foods you should be keeping away from. Fatty, greasy oily foods. So if you eat what you are supposed to dumping should never be an issue. It can happen to sleeve patients, but its as likely to happen to normal people as it is to sleevers.
