    Walking after surgery

Do whatever your body is up to. When I woke up after surgery, as soon as I was steady on my feet, I would take a lap around the nurses station. at a slow hobble, hanging on to my I/V stand, the walk took me up to 10 minutes. I went back to the room, sipped on some Water, put my compression boots back on (by myself), took a nap, woke up, took the compression boots back off, went to the restroom and walked again. This was my routine until I was released the next day. Unless you pass out and fall, I dont think there is any limit, or too much. There was a few times I had to stop and lean against a wall for a couple minutes, but after a brief rest I continued. Then when you get home, just do whatever you need to do. Go fix your own food and drinks. sponge bathe yourself, ect. Prior to surgery when meeting with the surgeon, the doctor looked at my wife and told her in a stern voice, "Dont baby him".
  2. If you have not done it, you probably need to get bloodwork done to check Vitamin levels. I opted to take B12 shots. I usually do it every 2 weeks. But there have been a few times I have gone over the 2 weeks and noticed my energy levels drop.

    The Soft Solids Effect

There is nothing wrong with slowing down your progression to solids. But you should definitely steer away from some of the starch/carbs that were allowed in the early stages (mashed potatoes) .

Anyone want to be fat again?

Even with saggy skin I have no regrets at all. At 47 years old I know I will always have that extra skin. I will have to wear clothing to hide it. But I am going to look great when dressed. Some may see this as only 50% of the battle. I see it as 90%. And in my opinion 90% is a win!!!!!

    Coffee again?

I was drinking coffee within the first week post-op. I never had a problem with it. But this is something that will be different from person to person. Spenda and fat free half and half are my choice of toppings. I will add that darker roast premium coffees like starbucks seem to be easier on my stomach. When I drink cheaper coffees the caffeine and acid seems to have a harsher effect on my system. This may just be me though.

    Cold sweats

drinking too fast maybe? Or possibly lactose intolerance?
  8. For the most part its just a step the insurance requires. But it is to see if you have unrealistic expectations, or very obvious eating disorder. But its pretty hard to diagnose anything with one short session with a psychologist. IMO there really should be a little more emphases on the mental state of people before WLS is approved. Its pretty obvious from some of the posts on this board that some people need a little counseling to assist them with them with their weight problems.

    What are your excuses?

I also do not use excuses. I tell it like it is. In my opinion, the stress of lying/making excuses is detrimental to my success.
  10. Are the crisps and small biscuits included in the 900 calories? If not then there is your problem. You have to be honest with yourself. When you weigh out a portion of say 3ozs. Make sure its 3ozs and not 3.5 ozs rounded down. That little bit extra turns the 900 calories to into alot more, meaning slower weight loss.

almost 2 month out and stalled

7 months out and the stalls are coming closer together as I get close to my goal. I have come to the point where I dont call them stalls anymore. Its more a pause for my body to catch up. I have said this since I started posting on this site. Dont just track your weight. Get a tape measure and track your inches also. When you hit a stall you almost always will still see a loss in inches.

    Thrift Eating

I also was raised to clean my plate. Since the sleeve the way I have overcome this is to only serve portioned meals which is what each and everyone of us SHOULD be doing. For me, its 3 to 4 ozs. for my wife who is also dieting its a bit more depending on her daily nutritional intake. Since surgery I have lost over 100lbs. But The household loss has been over 160lbs with my wife's loss included. The surgery isn't just creating a new healthier me, it is creating a new healthier family.

    Special K protein shakes

During the weight loss stage the Special K shakes have way too much sugars and calories for only 10G Protein. Down the road when you hit goal and move to maintenance, these probably would be acceptable. As others have said, Premier Protein shakes are probably the best premixed shakes. I have been using them for months now. But if you have the patients and time to mix your own, there are many other great brands.

    Greek Yogurt

From day 1 I have been eating dannon light and fit greek. Its 80 calories and there are alot of non fruit flavors. It was recommended to stay away from the fruit types for the first few months.

    Drain or no drain?

    Nope no drain.
  16. be careful with the gummies. The ones I started using post op contained 30 calories each which I quickly replaced when I noticed the calorie content. I then went to Wellesse brand, which was a liquid with an orange cream flavor. I liked them but then the store stopped carrying the brand so I switched to generic tablets. The Protein shakes is a tough one. I actually started with the powdered mixes from walmart and GNC but when I discovered premier I have stuck with them ever since. Due to the convenience and high protein content. Its going to be a hit or miss process to see which ones your individual taste prefers.

    Scared About Water

Just my opinion but I think many posts of people claiming they dont like the taste of plain Water after surgery are trying to justify not not drinking it in place of the unhealthy choices they would prefer.

    first stall

It happens to everyone. It will happen throughout the time your losing. I've stalled 4 or 5 times in the 7 months since surgery. I am currently in a stall. I hit 188lbs and have seen the scale move up to 190 in the past 2 weeks. same thing happened about 6 weeks ago. Getting ready to drop below under 200lbs and poof I gained a couple pounds. A week or so later I was down to 197. There is no time frame and no set schedule for stalls.

    Opinions on protein pasta?

When I hit maintenance stage, I will most definitely look into it. I couldn't find nutritional info on the website but I bet that although its high Protein it is also packed with calories. I cant imagine it could fit into the weight loss phase diet. Edit: Found the nutritional info and its not too bad. A little high on carbs but definitely an option for down the road mount Per Serving % Daily Value* Other info Calories 210 Fat Cal 20 Total Fat 2.0g 3% Sat Fat 0.0g 0% Trans Fat 0.0g 0% Polyunsaturated Fat 1.0g Monounsaturated Fat 0.5g Cholesterol 0.0mg 0% Sodium 25.0mg 1% Total Carb 38.0g 13% Fiber 4.0g 16% Sugar 2.0g Protein 10.0g 12% Vitamin A 0% Vitamin C 0% Calcium 2% Iron 10%
  20. Got the same thing here. I can only feel it when I am lying down or arch my back. It is kinda cool feeling parts of my body that have been hidden under the fat for all these years.

    Bread

If the info on your profile is correct your less than a month post op. Why the heck would you be thinking about actually eating something you shouldnt be touching for a long time. No recommendations on bread from me. I recommend eating some Protein. Dont start down a path you will regret later.
  22. I think this is something we all think about. After the big loss and reaching our goal, how do we avoid falling back into our old routines. I hope I can stay strong and keep with the program forever, but I know I can never allow myself to lose my current mindset to accomplish that. Luckily I have my wife to help me out, which will be a major factor. But only time will tell.

    Before/After

Thats pretty awesome. Keep up the great work. Your looking amazing!!
  24. I think the straw thing is more for the couple months after surgery. Just release any extra air as it occurs (burp)

    Why hide it?

I have been seeing many threads on here about people keeping their surgery a secret and it really puzzles me. I understand its a personal choice but whenever someone makes a post about it they never really give the reasoning behind it. I personally do not hide it. If anyone is curious I gladly tell them and when the questions pop up I am pretty well versed as to the facts behind the surgery so I educate them. The way I look at it is if it wasnt for people being open about it I would have never looked into making one of the best decision I have ever made. To me, it seems that keeping that secret would be more harmful mentally than whatever benefit keeping it a secret would do. So what are the reasons? Is it being embarrassed that you had to have the surgery to lose weight? Do you want people to think you did it on your own? Is it being afraid of "What if it doesnt work"? Or is it "I just like keeping secrets" I am not judging anyone, I am just curious.
