so, everyone of childbearing age who has the band is supposed to be on birth control for the first year or so, right? i know that my doctor wants you to be on 2 forms for the first year, so you definitely don't get pregnant. so, this is just a suggestion, but for those of you who are on the pill anyway, you might discuss continuous cycling with your doctor. that's where you just keep taking your pill and so you don't have a period. If you don't have a period, you don't get PMS, which means you don't have to worry about bad moods or crying or bloating or eating everything in sight. I've been doing it this way for about 4 years now, and I have about 2 or 3 periods a year, and i just couldn't imagine having to go through it every month again.

sorry i wasn't told to go on birth control let alone two forms. and I am 34 and everything works fine. (though i am diagnosed with pcos) I believe it is up to the surgeon if he wants you to be on birth control. it is a SUGGESTION only from what I understand about not getting pregnant for a year. for I hear many women getting pregnant months after being banded and having healthy babies.

How in the hec did you lose 51 pounds with no restriction??

THAT IS FANTASTIC! CONGRATS!

watching what I eat, how much I eat and they put me on Topamax for my Migraines that had gotten out of control. the med does not suppress my appetite, so I am not sure how the weight is coming off. the other thing is going to the gym and working out lots of cardio, some strength but mostly cardio right now. I am at a stand still as I am on monthly but hopefully the scale will start moving again soon. ohh and lots of Water. sometimes i feel like i am drowning in it. I just make sure not to drink until 45 min after eating. my biggest problem is losing hair right now even when getting 80+grams Protein a day. I know it will stop but sometimes I feel like I will have no hair by the time that it does stop.

we are doing good

there are days that are harder than others Tim does not have much restriction and lots of head hunger (will not admit that is what it is) and wants to eat and eat problems we have run into in the past with other diets. he goes in on the 20th for his next fill I am calling thursday to see if I can get him in next week for one instead.

most days I do good and do Portion Control and eat right but i have days where I want something and end up even though it was good for me having close to 2000 cals instead of the doc recommended 900 cals but those days are like once a month I lost 12 lbs in Oct and required no 2nd fill in oct so we will see if I need the 2nd one come the 20th of this month.

I have 1.5 in my 10cc band the only time I have felt restriction is this month on my monthly. last month on it no restriction was felt. went in for second fill and had lost 12 pounds so no fill. my surgeon says don't think about the size of the band pay attention to what you are eating and how much you are losing because like a tire you can over fill the band so it may say 10cc but can hold more. good luck

my husband and I were banded 3 weeks apart and it has worked out great it would have been better for him if he would have been first as planned but things happen as they did and he had to wait so mine was first.

well I am bummed as I missed my goal by one day but know that that day was missed because of health issues and could not be gotten back. In bed after a shot for a Migraine. next month will be better. good news is I still managed to lose 12 lbs this month and required no fill even though I fill no restriction. doc says why mess with a good thing.

Personal experience only... men have more self control than women. They follow the diet, women do not. Women will NOT faint with labor pains, men would die. Go figure.

Stick to your doc's diet, not the justification of others. Your band depends on this.

thanks wasa for qualifying that as your experience because here is the opposite I follow the doc's diet and hubby is having the hard time. I am three weeks ahead of him so that made things hard to see me move on to the next stage while he had to stay on the one he was on. but we are now on the same stage. solids. I go in for fill # 2 today and he had # 1 last week. And I agree follow your own doc's diet no one elses. your doc knows how his stages work and that is how he is willing to work. don't mess with a good thing.

HI last monday the 15th I went in for a Migraine and was given a shot of demerol and phenergin (sp). the site where the injection was given is still very sore, is this normal? it hurts for anything to brush up against it.

there is a support group meeting tonight at the white tent at St Als 7pm is anyone planning on attending Hubby and I are. I went last month and it was great. this month there is a guest speaker from northern Idaho who is a patient of Dr. Cahn's who has had great success. Dr. Cahn's nurse Debra runs the group she too has had the band installed. there is also the monday meeting coming up next week but because of work I can't make them but they look promising too.

me and hubby are doing great. Tim has lost 60 pounds since starting the pre-surgery diet and I have lost 42 pounds since pre-surgery diet. I hit a stand still for about 3 weeks and now am slowly losing again. Tim is at his stand still. our 4 yr old is constantly asking if what we are eating has Protein or not. she has listened too much and thinks everything has protein now. we are slowly teaching her.

got a gym membership last fri went sat for 45 min and today for 2 hrs .5 with free training session. 1+ hour on treadmill 2 min on elliptical feeling good

I am glad that you have had this result but please remember that everyone is different. I suffer from Migraines and sinus had aches. at times they hit me at the same time. cutting out caffeine was not a help in fact was told to drink 1-2 cups a day to ward off the headaches. I have been low carb and low sugar for many months now and just this past week have had headaches 5 out of 7 days. some worse than others.

had my first fill yesterday. doc put in 3cc's drank the Water and he carefully watched me then says I know that look grabbed another needle and started feeling for the port while I was sitting up as I am able to feel it standing up I stood up the water started going down so he had me lay down and removed 1.5cc's. boy I don't want to go through that feeling again but know that at so time I may have to.

she had surgery 5 days ago? at that time she had I.V. fluids that puts on weight. I gained 5 pounds when I had surgery and had to forgot to tell my husband to wait a week before stepping on the scale after his surgery. all the gasses they pump you up with and the fluids add pounds. get her up walking this helps and by the middle of the week she should see a drop in weight. good luck and thanks for being her support we all need it.
