  1. And, if you REALLY, REALLY want to get HEALTHY (and that should be your goal...) You should simply cut out the soda, period.

Just drink a lot more Water, and fruit and vegetable juices. Eventually, your taste for soda will go away.

veggie juices are good helps get your servings of veggies in, surgeon suggested this to my hubby and I but we were told absolutely no fruit juice like another poster said...eat the fruit get the fiber

  2. Diane,

it sounds like a pituitary prolactanoma (sp) my husband has one. they did not find it until his mid 20's but it started growing at the start of puberty for him. he has to be injected with testosterone every other week ( they have tried different forms but he tends to be allergic to many of them) he also has to take bromocriptine (sp) daily for his prolactin levels which are high. right now he is on maintainence doses. the neurosurgeon 8 years ago did not recommend removal as it would cause him more trouble than the problems he already has, his new on says that things have changed enough over the years that it could be safely removed through the nose, but as she can no longer see it on the scans, she does not think we should mess with it.

good luck and my prayers are with you

by the way he has been banded and has lost 94 lbs can be a slower loss but still he is losing. the only thing that the surgeon wanted to make sure is that there was no cushings disease also.

  3. IMHO, it sounds like ketosis to me, I went through it and my husband did too in the weeks proceeding our surgeries (pre-op diet) and post surgery (post op diet) and yes breathe is horrid. we neither one wanted to be near the other as both of us had stinky bad breath brought on by the sudden diet change. mostly liquids in pre-op and liquids post op

good luck know that it does go away but you may want to see your pcp to rule out anything else.

  5. my question is why label the 21 month as overweight at 26 lbs? my daughter has always been at 50 percentile for her weight at check ups. she was under 20 lbs at one year, but was in the 95th percentile for her height. she had bad tonsils and continually had strep. by 17 months we were told 2 years or 25 lbs that was the magic number. we had to get pediasure to help her gain weight. IT took a while but by the time she was 19 months we barely had her at the 25 and got the ok for surgery. (very necessary as she was on antibiotics continually to get rid of the strep.) that was in 2004 she is now 5. she is in the 85th percentile for her height (45 inches) and 50th for her weight (41 lbs) making a combined of 20th percentile which we have been told is perfect, tall and slender. (but try finding clothes, it is hard pants always fall off)

so how is 26lbs at 21 months overweight?? makes no since to me. yet I can see concern for that child because the cycle the others are in 224lbs by 12 that is alarming. my thought was man she weighs more than I do at this point and that is not good.

  6. Had to wait 6 weeks for the 1st, then 4 weeks, then 4 weeks again. Now if I need another it will be 4 weeks. Our clinic wants to see us every 4 weeks regardless. I think that's an excellent idea.

that is the schedule my husband and I have too. only difference is if we need a fill before that we can call and make an earlier appointment. the doc will see us and help us determine if a fill is needed. I.E. I had been losing weight steadily and only needed one fill, given at 6weeks post op, (I have APS 10CC band) I had 1.5cc in band, then two weeks after my appointment I was suddenly hungry all the time. called went in and he gave me a .5cc fill. he said that as I lose weight that it is coming off the stomach too and so all of a sudden the band loosened up on me. I have had a fill each visit since then and am up to 3.2cc in my band. weight loss has slowed way down though and that is discouraging.

  8. I did what I was told I could; complain about MY experiances and hopefully find someone with similar feeling or complaints, yet I have been personally put down.

But you did it not in a thread of your own but in a thread that if you had read it was obviously one where we were discussing DieselAngel and her problems that were obviously untrue.

good luck to you and I am glad to see that you opened your own thread now maybe you will get the info you want.

  9. several people have stated that if you have a 10 cc band that 3cc is not much. My first fill he put in 3cc and had to take out 1.5cc because it was too tight. I have had 3 more fills of .5 cc each taking me to 3.0cc. I have good restriction but when I saw the doc today because 2 hours after a Protein Drink (unable to eat in morning) I am hungry and craving sugar, he decided that I should get .2cc. Just because you have a 10 cc band does not mean you have to have it filled lots and aggressively to feel restriction. EVERYONE is different. I have to have smaller fills, I will live with that. My husband has to have larger fills he has like 7.5 in a 14cc band.

    good luck

  10. I live in NY and my surgeon required me to lose 10 pounds. It seems kind of extreme to have to lose so much before the surgery. I think you should check around with other surgeons in your area and see what they have to say. It doesn't seem healthy to lose it that way.

the 2 main surgeons require it, they require 10% of weight to be lost. I was required to lose 25 and my husband 40. there is another surgeon that has started doing the surgery but know little about him he is not connected with the other 2.

  11. I wonder if your age has to do with the mammogram and colonoscopy. I did not have them and know others that went to Anderson that did not have them.

with Cahn we had to have all required procedures done before we saw him. went to initial weigh in appointment, was given to diet that he follows the slim fast Protein shake and veggies. given the amount of weight to lose and to start the diet 3weeks before surgery. on the way out we scheduled surgery tentatively, until insurance approval.

    no mention of extra tests.

that shows how each surgeon is different

good luck you will do fine

  13. I was banded here in good ol Boise Idaho and yes they require 10% of body weight lost before surgery. My husbands surgery got rescheduled as he had not met the goal. I lost 20 of the 25 he wanted me to lose by day of surgery. (15 the day of pre op visit) he went ahead and did the surgery.

the diet I was on was 8oz ff milk with 2 scoops Protein Powder, 3 slim fasts a day, and all the veggies I wanted, no sauces. my surgeon used to use the cottage cheese and tuna diet but moved to the one I had a while back. three weeks of that is horrid but I did it. my husband did 6 weeks.

good luck and where are you located and who is doing the surgery?
