  1. I was banded March 20th. I've been feeling full, everything is going good. I'm starting to feel alittle more hunger, which my doc said I would feel at this stage.

I didn't get them today but since my surgery I get hickups... really bad ones for abit, alil painful almost. Nothing comes up, but it stops me doing whatever I'm doing.

    Is that normal?

  2. So how are you guys getting in so much Protein?

I have to admit, its my first week and yea I havent really been good at it.

My doctor said 60-80 grams a day is what I need. That just seems like so much because its hard for me to take in so much!

When I start puree Friday I plan to add it to my foods so I'm hoping that'll help. But still 60 grams even seems high.

How are you guys doing it!?

Is it easier once you're able to eat normal? Do I still have to track my protein then?

I was 418lbs when I started... I'm 5'10. I'm really just eating when I get hungry. chicken broth here, carnation instant Breakfast there, sipping Water throughout the day. I guess I'm doing it right.

  3. Hey all. Not sure if you all remember me, I was the girl that might have the problem with insurance. Turns out they said they'd cover til the end of the month so my surgery was covered. My follow-up appt wont be covered do to the switch to my new insurance, but they said they'll back date it... so yeah!! March 20th was the D-day... so I'm officially 5 days post op!!

Anyhow... they said I did great. My liver was enlarged and fatty... big surprised. I was in recovery FOREVER waiting on a room but it was worth the wait... had an AMAZING recovery nurse and the room was HUGE... felt like I was in a hotel. Lol. New furniture and all. (they just opened their own bariatric wing this year at hopkins). The over night nurse was wonderful and she had a trainee with her who was just as great. They were RIGHT on top of it, if I need ANYTHING.

I was nausated for a good day afterwards... plenty of anti-nausea medication!!!

The gas pain didnt start til I was post-op two days but is finally gone. I'm getting liquids down more now. Easier.

How do people get enough Protein in at this stage? I'll put some in my carnation instant Breakfast. I plan to add it to things when I'm doing puree starting Friday.

My left side is starting to really bother me at times. Like out of the blue I'll get a pain from around my port. Can't WAIT for that to be over.

I am sooo tired of yogurt, pudding, chicken broth, and crystal light I could scream. I can not wait to just have some mashed potatoes, bananas, heck even some baby food looks yummy at this point. I just just cant wait to be able to choose alittle more of what I can eat!!

  4. I've posted this twice and I'm sorry but I am worried....

Hey guys so I was FINALLY approved and I'm STILL under my parent's insurance (24 & fulltime student) well my father's work as a stipulation that I had to be claimed on their taxes..

THEY JUST got their taxes done and they couldn't claim me so when my dad goes into work he'll be talking to them and I'll probably be dropped

My surgery is March 20th... within the 30 days of coverage... actually 25 days...

do you think my surgery will get dropped? i'm super worried:confused_smile:

  6. I needed to lose about 200 lbs. So far I have lost about 160 and hope to lose about 50 more. Down from a size 32 or larger, to 18 on average. 2 years out and still have my band, no issues that I know of. Is that good news?

wow yes that does help... thank you. by any chance did you have to do a liquid or any special diet before surgery? some are telling me this but my doc's sec said no when i asked.

  7. :bored:Hi everyone!

I wrote here a LONG while ago. I'm in baltimore maryland, and my doctor is Schweitzer. There was sooo much hassle with insurance and figuring out what I needed (UnitedHealthcare), one person said one thing, another said another...etc.

But once I was approved I recieved a call from the office and the date is March 20th... its Spring break for me, so I'll have 11 days to recover before school. Hoping that's enough.

I'm seeing a lot of people getting the band taking out on here. Does anyone have any good news for the people that need to loose 200 lbs?

I am soo nervous about everything but I know this is what I need and I just want to get to a weight where I can exercise along with it again!

  8. Hello hello all!

I'm Melissa, 23 & from Baltimore County. I had my FIRST consult with Dr. Schweitzer last week and by the sounds of it, from what he said, it will be 4-6 wks before I hear from my insurance company of the go-ahead, but in the mean time to make appts. w/his diet & psych docs. Which I am doing.

I have United Health Care for my insurance... has anyone had any experience w/this insurance and lapband? Just curious how it went.

Also I'm curious about other experiences w/Schwietzer.

I also went to the bayview support group. Regretfully I don't know if I'll be able to do it every month because of my college schedule. Are there any other lapband support groups in the baltimore area that meet on Mon, Wed, or Fri?

    Wish everyone well!

    Melissa
