    The Slow Losers Thread

Today was weigh in day for me. Im now 5 weeks out from surgery. I have great news! This week I lost 4 lbs! Go me! Usually my weekly weigh result is half a pound or 1 lb. I think I managed 2 lbs in the first week. To lose 4 lbs in one week is incredibly motivating for me. Looking forward to next weeks weigh day! (haha..I'll probably stall)

50 lbs in 7 weeks?? Incredible! Congrats :-)
  3. I am losing at a rate slower than I often would when dieting before RNY. But you're right...consistent weight loss, whatever the rate is the most important thing and thats why I chose WLS to help me. I could lose 50-60 lbs in the past, but it always came back with interest. I guess at the start ( week one) I assumed I should be losing 5-15 lbs per week like some of the others on here. I was also a little anxious that I'd taken such a drastic "last resort" measure and that it may not work. Ive failed miserably at getting anywhere near a healthy weight since I was 12 (im now 34). I need this to work. Of course ive quickly realized that playing comparisons is futile and the most important part is focusing on my plan and my own individual journey. Im much more relaxed about my progress now. And yep. ..im hoping the slower loss helps maintain skin tone that's for sure! Thanks for posting. It's great to hear from someone who was also impatient at the start who lost consistently and is now rocking size 12...soon to be 10! I can't wait for the day I can say the same thing. I can't imagine it! I haven't been that size since I was a child.

I think our pre rny lives and experiences have made us form these opinions of what will or won't happen. I totally understand where you're at. I think once I surpass my lowest adult (and teenage) weight ever (205lbs), I may start to believe in my surgery. Everyday when I wake up now I tell myself to have faith and choose to be positive about this journey. Worrying will not help us..only hinder us emotionally/psychologically and that will in turn affect our progress. Easier said than done thou! All the memories of my prior struggles haunt me!!

I can also eat anything. Nothing affects me ( although I havent eaten chocolate or cake yet - I might have a little dessert on Christmas day - a bite or two)

    The Slow Losers Thread

I have lost a little more weight and I'm now 10lbs down from morning of surgery ( 4 weeks ago). My surgeon and nut both told me earlier in the week that I should see my weight loss begin to increase each week. They mentioned also the staircase analogy.....loss, stall , loss , stall as being completely normal. My surgeon gave me alot of reassurance and said " in 12 months time you WILL look and feel like a new person - you will lose significant weight". I was even asking him questions around pouch size and roux limb length...lol....he was great. I think he found it almost amusing I was so worried I had only lost 10lbs in 4 weeks.
  7. It seems we now have a thread for us slower losers. .thanks Molly..will head on over!
  8. I've often thought that would be a great idea :-)
  9. Ita really awesome to meet other slower losers. It can get so depressing seeing/reading about others huge losses and wonder why your body isn't doing the same. I've now learnt that comparing myself to others stops me from focusing on my own journey. We'll get there...albeit a little slower than others. Maybe our concerns are unfounded and our weightloss may amp up further down the track.
  10. I anticipate needing a thigh lift/lower body lift. I have always had disproportionately large thighs. My goal weight is the same weight I was at age 11 (big child). I could totally deal with baggy and saggy tummy I could tuck in or cover...but I'd love to be able to wear a skirt just above knee length or a pair of shorts. My thighs are so large that I'll be left with serious sagging. Im prone to stretch marks and my skin has little elasticity so I should really start saving for surgery!
  11. Im losing one pound per week. You are doing well, but I totally understand the angst! Some of us have to be very patient but hopefully this will pay off in less loose skin. :-)
  12. Thankyou! It's wonderful to also get feedback and support from those more experienced and much further out in this insane journey. Its good to hear that a person with goal in sight also battled slow losses.
  13. Also feeling a lot more energetic and I took my measurements and ive lost a good amount of inches - I cant wait till my huge size 11W feet start to shrink. Oh to be a mere size 10 regular shoes!
  14. Hi all....Saw my nut yesterday and surgeon today. Essentially they said the same thing..." you WILL lose". I gave them all the numbers of how little ive lost; the stalls, how I've been doing everything right. They both gave me this "knowing look" as thou they had heard my concerns a thousand times before. Neither of them were concerned, in fact both were quite happy and they both said it'll happen and to be patient. I was told to stop weighing everyday as the psychological game we play with ourselves when we don't see a number we would like or expect can really play havoc. My surgeon answered all my questions and made me feel at ease. He said I'll be seeing big changes over next 3 months and to trust the physiological and hormonal processes our RNY bodies undergo to shed the weight. So I have given away my scales and will weigh once a fortnight only. He said out if all his patients there was nobody who didn't lose as he expected. He said some patients certainly lost more than expected but his slower losers were mainly severe diabetics battling debilitating arthritis, and they still lost significant weight. I feel relieved. I was convinced I would be the person surgery didn't work for at all. Time to take a chill pill and concentrate on my plan. .so that's what im gonna do. Im now allowed crackers and toast! As well as salad and nuts. Got to have ny Protein first of course, but my food plan is nuch more varied now. It's great. Rachel
  15. Thanks for your supportive reply. I appreciate it when I'm feeling like this. Here's hoping its some serious fluid retention! I gained weight this week of 1 lb. Just seems insane considering the sheer minimal food and exercise im doing. Will definitely ask a lot of questions next week with nut and surgeon. Hopefully they can reassure me that other patients were similar. Yep, ive lost inches, especially round my waist, but most of those were from the liquid pre-op diet. I hope in 5-6 months time I can look back at this thread and laugh because my pounds lost increased. Thanks. Rachel

Hi everyone. I am having major frustration over all the bugs. Hope they're fixed soon. I currently cannot see the latest page in this thread either. Im hoping I will bw able to once I post. I had to create new account. I was previously rlm34 - surgery was 10/21. Hope everyone is doing ok! Im still losing exceptionally slow as well as having stalls. Tomorrow is 3 weeks out from surgery and Im down 6lbs. Remaining positive and exercising, logging and following plan. Is great to find my way to this new site.
