To tell or not to tell mom and dad....that is the question
Aren't we a funny bunch of 40 something's!!!! Best wishes to you Tuesday! I'm up next Thursday. Keep us posted! I did tell my mom today. Overall it went way better than expected. I talked for a long time about all the prep work I'd done. I didn't let her have a word/question til I had told her everything. My sweet mom is a sub abuse therapist. EVERYTHING is seen from the psychological well being aspect. She's the sweetest person. She's also terrified of anything medical and of pain. She said all the right things and said she was happy for me. But there was resistance lurking beneath too. I think my preemptive strike with how much "self help" and soul searching I've done to get to this point helped push back her worry a little. She will automatically think this will fail. She was ready to tell me about someone's failure post surgery and I just went on talking. I acknowledged failure could happen but that I was willing to work hard. I could still feel the doubt hanging in the air though. All in all, it went well or better than expected. Now, let's just get this show on the road!

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
I couldn't get past the fears of the re-routing with the RNY. I have chosen the sleeve just because it makes more sense in that nothing is rerouted to the intestine. I have a BMI of 48, started at 50. Doc was ok with sleeve although I am a smidge worried I should do RNY for higher BMI. At the same time, both surgeries really have whatever result you put the effort into. Either way, it's work. I do worry about the longer suture line and leaks but I have a family hx of gastric ca so I'd rather not have a blind pouch sitting there. My brain will work OT if I let it worrying about everything. But I also just helped turn, clean and reposition a pt who weighed 550. My heart broke for her. I am having such knee and hip issues at 45 that I will take the surgical risks because I don't want to be bedridden in that shape in 15 years. Good luck to us all! We deserve to take care of ourselves too!!!!! No one else is ever gonna do it for us. Time to re-prioritize our needs!

guilty fitness conscience
I so understand your anger. Totally. THIS IS NOT REALITY TV ALL YOU PERSONAL TRAINERS OUT THERE! I was so depressed after my injury, I fell completely off the weight loss wagon (2 years ago, before surgery). I still have trust issues. I walk into the gym now and refuse to ask for help even though I should. I've said it on other threads, a see a new cottage industry - personal trainers who have had WLS. The damage to joints - just doesn't go away with weight loss. Not at 45. I'm just inspired by all of you who become so active (even "athletic") after massive weight loss. I hope it's me some day. Hard to imagine preop.....

March Sleevers!
March 13th for me. Excited, scared, nervous. But mostly just anxious to be 1 or 2 months post op. I'm in list making mode today. Going grocery shopping soon. Most worried about nausea. I keep saying I have butterflies in my stomach that's about to shrink!

Anyone have any feedback on Aetna HCA
I have Aetna (non HCA) and mine came back in 2 days. My chart wasn't submitted until all the criteria was met though.

APPROVED
Mine was approved Tuesday. Scheduled for March 13th. It was hurry up and wait for what seemed like forever. And then, boom, it's almost here! I've got lotsa butterflies in my stomach that's about to be removed! Lol

To tell or not to tell mom and dad....that is the question
I'm scheduled for March 13th and I'm telling my mom tomorrow. I am 45 years old and I love my mom dearly but she is going to be sick with worry. She won't even take a steroid dose pack for a herniated disc. She's definitely not comfortable with surgery for weight loss. I'm dreading it but I know I should tell her. Not telling my dad. He's got early dementia and severe anxiety issues. I need cheerleaders, not nay Sayers or worry warts. I have enough of those feelings in my head as it is! Lol

Got a surgery date, & im sooo nervous
I just got my date this week too (3/13). My doc doesn't do a preop diet. But I've lost 25-27 ( keep bouncing around there) and I sure hate to go backwards by having "food funerals". But, man, I just keep wanting to eat bread and cake since I got my date. I've done so well! I just feel so much more scared after getting a date. I had planned to do just liquids the 3 days before surgery, just to make it less drastic. Just can't believe two weeks from tonight, I'll be in pain and thinking "what did I do". Two weeks! I'm excited to get this done, truly, I have no doubts, but I'm so nervous now!

Great post! Thank you!

Which Chewable (or not) MultiVitamin?
My doc recommends 2 Flintstones with iron post op. I'm preop but hadn't really researched it yet. Can you share why they are ruled out? Just curious.

Aetna Please Help!
My last appointment was the 14th. Chart was completed and ready to submit. But they didn't submit until the 24th for whatever reason. But I was approved today (25th). For all the waiting preop, at least the insurance side of approval didn't take long at all. Good luck to those waiting. It's a frustrating process.

concert 16 days after surgery?
I bought tickets to see Springsteen on April 16th. My surgery is March 13th. I knew it was a gamble but it's BRUCE! Good idea about the binder. I bought general admission tickets. Standing. For like 5 hours? I must be crazy. Am I crazy to think I can stand that long one month post op? Hope so, because I'd be heart broken if I had to sell them.

I Decided I Want To Live At 47Yo
"And it was just a few months ago (my ability to live in denial is EPIC) I finally woke up and said to myself "I want to live"....not just live like in living to an age, I mean actually live life like this is it and not a dress rehearsal." This sentence could have been said by me. Truly, this just about sums it up. Cheers to you as you continue on this journey! Great job. I'm waiting for my date. Hopeful to have surgery in March. Thank you for sharing!

How many sizes have you dropped?!?
This is a great thread! I'm preop and have lost 25-27 (keep bouncing back and forth) but I can tell a difference already. My husband was walking behind me in Target and yelled out to me that my butt was smaller. Thanks, honey! But it is, and it feels so good! Can't wait to get to the other side of surgery. I can't fathom shopping in the "normal" sizes!

anyone with a march date?
I'm anxious but not really nervous. I just want a date!!!! Wish I would get that phone call or letter!

New pic
I was educating my best friend about the surgery, showing her this site. She wanted to look at before and after pics. Yours is one of the best. You looked lovely, and very happy in your before picture, but you are radiant in your after pic. It is very inspirational for those of us heading into this.
