  1. I had a preop diet from the time I entered the program but did not have a liquid preop diet. I ate similar to how we have to eat post sleeve (Protein first, low carb, little to no white sugars/flour/starch). I ate 1,200-2,000 calories a day (average of 1,400). I started in October of 2013. I lost 28 pounds preop. I was sleeved last Thursday and I've lost 11.5 pounds first week post op for a total of 39.5. I'm so glad I got a head start. I also started a blood pressure med in November that has some diuretic in it which accounted for some of that (I have lymph edema in my legs).

HW: 325 (probably higher once upon a time) with BMI of 51/52.

Day of surgery: 297, BMI 48

    1week post op: 285

    Goal: 155-165

I did do a full liquid diet on the day before surgery - but just one day.

  2. I agree. Doing this without Protein would be DANGEROUS. Literally, you eat to live after this. Tastes are secondary when you've embarked on this. Not to say everything has to taste bad but there is most definitely some sacrifice. Today I am one week post op. I've lost 11 pounds in a week, 29 preop for a total of 40. With that said, I'd love, love, love to eat (chew) a piece of bacon. Lord how i miss chewing! But it's temporary. I'll get there. Until then, I'll sip my Atkins Cafe Carmel which tastes almost the same as a Carmel Macchiato. The Atkins brands are not high in protein (only 15) but they are smooth and easy. Try those if you haven't. I generally hate the powders. I do use unflavored Protein Powder and add it to Soup. Look up Sytrax. They have a ton of different ones. My favorite is Pure Protein pre-made. Good bang for your buck with 23g protein.

  3. You could always take your lead from a drugs mule... Strap flat packets filled with lead filings around your middle with an ace bandage. Flat, form fitting, effective. Or, depending on your <coughs> crevices, you could always wrap a load of lead filings into a couple of condoms and shove it where the sun doesn't shine?! LOL and I am seriously joking about that!

I almost spit my Protein Drink out!! I love your posts Madame! Makes me wonder what EXACTLY you do for a living! :)

  4. I'm a week post op so I have nothing to give advice on but I empathize. It's got to be so very frustrating. Is it time for your period? Not sure howmy body is going to react being sleeved but when I've dieted, no matter how hard I try, the two weeks before my period - no way the scale was going down. It seemed especially so when I had bad PMS. It's got to be frustrating. Keep the faith. Let a bad day go to bed. Start again tomorrow. :(

  5. RJ, you need to write your Butterfly book. You write so vividly and with passion. Your story inspires all of us. It would be an honor to be your friend in the real world. With shedding the pounds, we she'd other stuff too. It stings a bit but it's in the rear view. Keep it in drive because THAT kind of person does not deserve your friendship.

With Love! Jen from JensNewJourneys ( changed my name to CrazyJaney - long story, has to do with a Springsteen song - I know, I'm weird).

  6. One week today. Woke up feeling sooooooo much better than earlier in the week. The sun is shining. I'm going outside. I have so much more energy than yesterday. Seems like my Miralax and Smooth Move tea has all kicked in at once but that feels so much better. Hang in there to all who are in the first few days. It does get better! Down 39.5 pounds since preop, 11 during 1st post op week.

  7. I'm just newly sleeved so not an expert on any of this. I lost 28 pounds preop and 10 in the last week. I started at 325 so the 37 pounds "seems" like a drop in the bucket. The reasons I wanted to do this surgery were 80% health and 20% aesthetics. I have seen a huge improvement in my health already (no more bp meds), less swelling in my legs, less pain in my feet. I haven't seen as much physically in the way of beauty, although I know it's there. Small things, like the way I walk faster, carry myself. Small thing are probably there for you if you don't look at the big picture. You might have a ways to go but look at how far you've come! It's hard to see ourselves as anything other than the obese person we are. But we are always moving forward. Do something you've never done before. It's those NSV's everyone talks about that aren't related to a scale. Those are there I bet! Keep on track. I'm inspired by your achievement this far!

  8. Technically I'm on FULL liquids and puréed to liquid until next Wednesday when I can have real pureed. My instructions say that when I can tolerate 1/4-1/2 cup of something, I should start the no drinking liquids within 30 mins. The NUT said it was ok to try yogurt. I felt better within the hour of posting that. It's scary though! I don't ever get in 64 of fluids or 60 g of Protein. I might hit 40 again today. I'm just so sick of shakes!
