Pain meds make me sleepy but cause me to have poor quality slept. I'm tired, fall asleep, wake up restless. I do tester off pain meds.

Distraction helps me too. Staying busy with other things. I'm newly sleeved so I'm not an expert on any of this. My family eats out or on the run often. That may decrease with my surgery, but it's not going to stop - that's reality. I sort of wanted to take the bull by the horns and I've "eaten out" (not really, just soup) a few times already. I thought it would be hugely anxiety inducing but just wanted to face my fears. It's hard but I am stronger than my "wants". I am not going to avoid my fears. I can't eat bad stuff this early on so maybe this won't work for me later but I feel like it's immersion therapy. For me, I just keep exposing myself to it and do a lot of positive self talk in my head while I'm going through it - the smells, the thoughts of how good something taste, the comfort it used to bring. Acknowledging the anxiety but not acting on it. But my self talk is also about the consequences of that food. It works for me. Not saying its easy because It's not easy. But, if I avoid this, I'm actually more anxious about it. if I take it straight on, my anxiety decreases. This is all such a journey! I really want to switch my compulsion to exercise. I've been in that place a long time ago where you get that high from it. It's been a long time but it did feel good. Can't wait to start that again.

Please add me to the list. I had surgery march 12. Had a few down days after hurting myself doing too much. I just felt so good on the 8th day! Believe them when they say no lifting, no bending, and no twisting. The docs really mean it when they say walking only
Wondered how you were doing! Hope it's getting better.

Definitely sounds like reflux. I agree in the OTC Prilosec. I was discharged with a script for Prevacid for prevention. I would definitely call your doc and tell them you're having reflux and diarrhea. I'd only take milk of Mag if you are constipated. It's a potent laxative. You could be dehydrated from all that diarrhea.

I could tolerate cold or warm best, but not hotl stuff. Try to add unflavored Protein to a can of Soup, add Water and purée so it's thin. That's what helped me. I liked my Protein Shakes over ice. Warm tea, no protein, helps me so much. I moved to retried Beans today. No pain but sooooooooo full. Not ready. I'm going to back off to liquids and yogurt tomorrow.

I'm day 12. For lunch at work I had 1/2 c of er fried Beans with 1/4 c of shredded cheese, melted. I ate 3/4 of it over 30 min. So what's 3/4 of 3/4th??? Anyway. It tasted wonderful. It's sitting a little heavy but no pain. I agree with the Maggiano's feeling. My best friend just glared at me (in a very loving and funny way) when I said I felt stuffed. I haven't lost anything in a few days. I don't know if it's starvation mode? First stall? Constipation (yes)? But my energy levels are better at 600 - 700 calories. I can try oatmeal and scrambled eggs at the end of the week. That will be weird. Still can't wait to chew something though! Also - Pure Protein Shakes have a 35g 4carb in 11 ounces. They are doable. The 23g one is better tasting but this is good bang for the buck. I was told we really don't absorb more than 20g at a time.

This is so inspirational for those of us just starting out! Congratulations!

You could totally rock out in a little black dress! Is it a special occasion dress?

Try some sugar free Popsicles if you haven't already. When it hurt and felt like "work" to sip, those helped. It does get better though. I kind if felt that food aversion for a day or two. Not fun.

I guess for me the test is if you see someone who is watching what they eat and exercising and still struggling with being overweight would you tell them about how WLS helped you?
Not unless they brought it up first or asked for my opinion. I'm cautious when I talk to people about weight - theirs or mine. I feel very safe here because we sort of assume we all got here through great struggle. I hate to make assumptions about people I don't really know. A close friend would know I had surgery. An acquaintance might ask and if I thought they were sincere, sure I'd talk to them about it. I doubt I'd be part of an intervention or anything. You have to be "ready" for this.

What about heat and cold alternating for shoulder and neck pain? I am so glad I didn't get it with this surgery. I grew up in Mi. I laugh when the people here in Tn complain about snow and yes potholes! I am amazed you went to work. I want to know if any one else might be lactose intolerant. If so watch out for some of the Proteins. I bought a big jug of some kind of whey Protein isolate. Ooooh weeeee my body did not like it! Not only did it taste nasty(I have gotten to dislike French vanilla) but about an hour later I was running, well hobbling fast and undressing to get to the bathroom. What a way to end a week of not going.
I grew up in MI and live in TN too. There's bunches of us damn Yankees here.
I've seen a lot of threads where people were lactose intolerant in the early weeks after surgery but then it gets better. Slim fast always did that to me. I'm doing ok with what's I'm doing now but I usually drink premades and when I do mix powder, I use half milk and half Water.

I had my WLS on March 11th so I am 13 days post op. I wish I could do (yogurt, pudding, puréed soup) But my DR. says no way not until 21 days I see him on day 15 and I am hoping and Praying he changes his mind then I to am sick of nothing but liquids.
Bless your heart! Fingers crossed. Even pudding thinned? How about Tomato Soup? ?

600 - 800 is the range my doc set for me, but it was weeks before I was able to get in that many calories. Everything cause stomach distress. I thought my sleeve was trying to grind up rocks with every bite! :-P
Mine did not like pintos and cheese. I think it was too high in fat. I'm gonna try homemade next time. I ate 2 T of hummus tonight and it was heavenly. If anyone had told me I'd eat hummus without crackers/bread Ida told them they were nuts. But just to taste something not sweet and not Soup was heavenly! Not much Protein but oh well.

I'm 11 days post op and up to 600 calories. Is that about right for liquids and puréed? I can do about 1/4 cup of puréed Soup or pudding/yogurt. I feel better at 600-700 than I did at 400. Just curious what's normal - if there is such a thing. I'm hitting Protein and fluid goals.
-
I was just gonna post about average calories. I hit almost 700 today. I feel like that is too much???? I'm 11 days post op. Most days are 400-600. I do feel better today and had a surprisingly decent day at work. Not running a marathon but did ok!
-
I agree, day 6 was sort of a turning point. I hope you feel better. I had gas but to me that wasn't as bad as the pain from coughing, moving.
I really feel good today after my first day at work. Hit all my goals and wasn't too tired. I was surprised.
Michigan, home of the 5foot pothole. I don't miss that!

Oh not fun! Am I out of the woods? I'm almost six weeks post op.
Probably. I usually get a vag yeast infection with all antibiotics but never had thrush til now. I'm afraid to say anything and jinx it. Both kinds are miserable!

I used them. Not sure if they helped but they can't hurt. Can you try plain Tylenol? The narcotics will definitly slow gastric motility and make you hold onto pain/gas. I know I wanted to take it but didn't want to crush plain Tylenol and the children's liquid is so sweet unless you can find the sugar free (which I couldn't).
-
I definitely wasn't hurting like that at day 7. I do have an ache or pain below the big incision. Are you doing gasX strips?
Who is in March?
