  1. Hi Sue - if you do go to a psychologist, make sure that they not only have the bariatric experience by therapeutic experience too. I saw the psychologist once that I got as part of my "package" and he literally gave me a tick and flick assessment. Not sure if it is because I am a psychologsit too that he decided not to waste his "precious" time in building that pesky rapport or engagement or something else entirely. Anyway, as it was my only experience in GETTING therapy (not delivering it) I was ....underwhelmed might be the nicest way to put it lol.

With your weight loss, my surgeon (when giving me goals to reach etc) said that the body kind of works out when it's lost enough and where it is happy, so not to sweat it. Now I am still 21kg away from her goal (and 35 away from my own) so I am not even close to worrying about this stuff yet but maybe if you're less anxious, things will settle. Corisol is the stress hormone and can be linked to weightloss - hope this helps :)

    Cheers, Liss

  2. Today I'm baking an Oreo and Nutella cheesecake and its so ridiculously sweet, even if I wanted to have a piece, I don't think I could get through it. I love how the sleeve has changed my taste for things. Before the surgery, I would have made 2, one to take to the dinner party and 1 to stay at home for me to eat over the next week, it it lasted that long. Even licking a little off the spoon to make sure the flavour was right made me feel ill.

Anybody else look at some foods now that they used to love but post op just can't stomach and think "I used to eat (however much) of that?! No bloody wonder I was fat!!!"?

There are so many foods like that for me. Most foods are like that for me lol. But the biggest thing is Pasta - I used to eat SO MUCH of it before the surgery - had it twice, the last time ended up with me riding the porcelin bus and it "cured" me of my craving for Pasta. I can't have dairy at all besides a little greek yoghurt and then only if I have it with fresh fruit. I can have chocolate - peanut M&M's are my thing. I have to stop at 3 though cause even if I just have that one more I feel sick and yuck. I realised this after scarfing down half a dozen and feeling really unwell for about an hour afterwards.

The biggest thing is that I used to LIVE at Macca's - I don't think I even realised how often i was there. Now, I never go and if I do, I usually just get a cup of tea :P i love how much that has changed :)

  3. Have downloaded the app but realised that my joggers NO LONGER FIT lol. They're at least two sizes to big now. So I am going to buy new one's on the weekend and I plan to start on Sunday. We will see how I go - I still get quite shakey even just walking but I can't keep doing nothing! Will let you know how it goes!!

  4. I have 15kg to go to get to double digits :) Still a ways off...but it's nice knowing that I'll get there! Got a new app tonight - it's to get you from the couch to 5km run in 10 weeks. The app is free and called C25K. It seems to start you off with 30 mins where you jog for 60 seconds and walk for 90 seconds. Apparently I'll be running 5km in 40 minutes in just 8 weeks. Well, we will see how that goes lol :) Got to get new joggers first - my old one's (which are only about 8 months old) are too big lol. who knew I also carried weight in my feet hahahahaha

  5. That's amazing puppyphat. I would love to achieve as much success as you in just six short months. I am four weeks post op today and including two week pre op diet I am down 11.1 kgs so not as fast as you but I am eating all the right things, have this one week of soft foods/mushies and then I can start normal foods next week. Only a 0.6 kg loss this week. Would like it to be faster but not sure what else to do. Haven't started regular exercise since the op so will try that. I still seem to be exhausted each night after work and the couch has become a good friend. Is this usual to still be so tired four weeks post op.

Congratulations to all those recently sleeved, it's great to see you are all in a good place.

Hey Kate - don't know about other's but my weight loss in the weeks after surgery wasn't great. I actually remember gaining weight when I was in hospital (though it was due to the leak and Fluid issues from the drips etc) and it was really tough. And then it started melting away :) So don't worry about it not moving too fast initially - my experience has been that it does kick off and then you won't know yourself!! Cheers, Lila

  6. Thanks Lizzy :) It's good now - great actually! I went shopping today with my mum and aunt - I was shopping in the same stores as them!! Just a regular, normal store and I bought a size 18 skirt that frankly was a little big in the waist. It wasn't even the largest size they had (they went up to a 20). This from the girl who couldn't fit into some size 26 prior to surgery! It was great!! It gives me such a thrill to be able to do that! I can't wait for you to experience this too :)

  7. Dean, I have no idea, not sure if it is the Water on the staples or something. In my case everything should be well and healed over those things and I still sometimes get that weird feeling with cold water...

It does come alot less often nowadays...but the sleeve can be a temperamental mistress at times lol

She sure can be! Good example - I had half a chicken, cheese and avo sandwich last week and it was fine. Today, puking my guts up on the side of the road on my way to an important meeting - of course! No rhyme or reason to it...temperamental is a good say to describe it!!

  8. Ugh really awful day today and very stressful...it's days like this that I really notice (1) how I can no longer eat when stressed and (2) that I really have very few other coping strategies besides food. I am not joking - I stopped at woolies on the way home from work and bought M&M's, mint bubbly chocolate and that cadbury marvellous stuff that has the snapping candy in it. It's all in the fridge - I won't eat it but ridiculously I still feel better for buying it. Sigh. I will take it in to work tomorrow and be a hero with the admin staff :)

Have now had a shower (after a good cry) and a whinge to you guy's. I am going to call a mate soon to unload on her...stupid work ruining my life lol...hope you guy's are going better!

  9. Silly question? But how long can it take for you stomach to stretch? I really hope i haven't push my sleeve to far to quick... At the moment if i eat two steamed dim sims I'm getting full. Some times i eat 3 depending on how hungry i am. This is just my drop everything i need something soft food. But would still like to know if I'm over eating.

HI Sarah - not sure about the issue of stretching but I was told that there is a greater chance of the sleeve stretching if you eat and drink at the same time. I also understand that different doctors make the sleeve different sizes. Could be yours is just a bit bigger than others. With regards to how much others eat, I wouldn't sweat it. I am a good example - can I eat one dim sim. Not a chance. Maybe I could do half? But that would be iffy. It's too dense for me (meat). Maybe if I ate over an hour (also apparently not a good idea) I could do a half. But remember - I had the leak, extra stomach removed to fix said leak and restaple and then two months where I didn't eat (on TPN) so my stomach shrivelled up even further. I am NOT a person who you should compare yourself to. That's the thing - you don't know what other things are contributing to other people's ability to eat or not eat as much as you. Just focus on feeling well, healthy and making the best choices you can. It will all come together for you :)

    Best wishes, Lila

  10. Hi guy's :) I weighed myself at work today and I am down to 117kg from 163kg (day of surgery) and 173kg at my biggest. I am really stoked with how the weight is still coming off though I am noticing it is slowing down a little. I suspect that might be a good thing :) If I can average a kilo a week from now on, I should still reach my surgeon's goal by September. And be pretty close to "my goal" too (only about 7-8kg away). I have applied for a promotion at work - wouldn't have done that before the surgery. It's a big step up in terms of my role and what I will be doing will be less clinical but it is quite exciting. Before this kind of job where you had to go and attend meetings with people (strangers) would have ruled out this work for me. But now, I feel confident enough to be able to do this really well. Its quite exciting :) Anyway, I just thought I would share what's going on with me. Hope you're all well!!

    Cheers, Lila

  11. As someone that had a leak and subsequent months in hosptial, I wanted to talk about my experience and decided not to after reading some of the posts as well as experiencing a little of this backlash. Not as bad as I've read recently and no one said that I was a faker but still, pretty judgemental stuff. So i stopped posting on all but one thread (you know who you are) and they've been amazing supports. I guess it is just about finding your place :)

  12. Hi Sarah - sorry to hear about the weight loss. It must be very frustrating. I agree with Kelli though - myfitnesspal or something similar might be a good option for you. It will let you know how you are going and I've found it makes me accountable. Also, you're not that far out from having the surgery are you? it could just be one of those things your body does to adjust to it's new situation. I don't know how often you are weighing yourself but maybe if you pushed it out to monthly to cut yourself some slack you mightn't worry about it so much and perhaps it will help to restart the losses. Cortisol (stress hormone) activates a heap of neurological and biological processes when produced and one of them is to store fat cause the system is under stress. That's not helpful for weight loss :) So the less stress the better!!

Lastly - geez I am just full of ideas aren't I :) - it could just be that you need to work out what your body wants now with the sleeve (i.e more Protein, fruit, carbs etc). Everybody reports something different that works for them so it could just be you're working out what it is that works for you.

    Good luck!

    Cheers, Lila

  13. Forgot to mention, weighed in at my surgeons and I am 65kg so GOOOOOOAL!! I am so happy - BMI of 23! I can't quite believe it!

My hair loss has stopped (not exactly growing back yet) - hey I learnt something interesting from my dietician, I was eating heaps of Brazil nuts thinking I was doing the right thing and I found out that the selenium in these nuts can be toxic! She told me not to eat more than four a day!!! Yikes - guess what one of the symptoms of poisoning is - hair loss!!! I had stopped eating so many over Christmas (I had gone to chocolate over this period!!) and coincidentally that is when my Hair loss tapered off! Who knows, but interesting.

Oh my goodness that is amazing! Congratulations, you must feel incredible! I hope you are planning something spectacular to reward yourself!!

  14. Feeling vegetable deprived so decided to make myself a fresh Tomato, zuccini and basil penne. No Protein except for the little bit of cheese I might pop on top which isn't great but I am craving veggies :) Was just going to boil them up but decided to try something different. Will let you know how it goes - I don't expect to eat too much cause it's Pasta but I hope it might be a nice change from my protein heavy diet of the past little while!

  15. Ugh so annoyed. I used to really love cheese and crackers. It was my go to thing when i couldn't eat anything else. Now, since my taste buds have changed so much since the surgery, the cheese is too strong/ salty. And it's just plain old cheddar. i even tried 'plastic" cheese and it was no good either. Sigh. On the upside, fruit has never tasted so good lol :) Just not a lot of Protein in fruit :(
