    February/March 2014 sleevers

Hey SF These are the things we can look back on and laugh at. Laughter is the best medicine. I feel so much better today than yesterday and so on. 1 wk tomorrow was surgery. What a difference a week makes. I'm so looking forward to a normal size. I went to a huge consignment shop today to look for a pic I saw the last time I was there. I was able to get it at 1/2 price. The one employee asked my friend and I if we'd like to do an interview for their promotion. I thought 6 mo's from now I'd jump at the chance but until then I think I'll stay out of the lime light. LOL. They were videoing a tall, thin blonde. I drove the 32 miles to Phoenix, walked the whole warehouse consignment and drove back. Had a Protein shake, took a 1/2 hr nap and I'm up and feeling good. Glad we're on the mend and to the new us.

I felt that way yesterday. Unreal how something that to others is so minor is a BIG achievement to us. Those farts yesterday were music to my ears. LOL We're on the road to a new and improved us. I'm lucky I didn't have a drain.

    Having problems adjusting

Make an appt w/your Dr and talk to him about this. If you can make an appt w/a counselor who is knowledgeable in WLS and talk to them. This is your health and life. Are you walking? Get help now. Good luck.
  4. I think it would be great if you would share any info, tips, tricks, nutrition, and anything else you learn. The more info we have the better we are able to make this a successful journey. Thank you for taking the time to post and help.

Oh good you can do the liquid diet. I'm on clear liquids till Tues. Try the gas x strips which dissolve on your tongue. Some others suggested them on the bariatric pal list. I only needed a few of them. I had to take a stool softener and finally had a bm which was not an easy task but felt lots better after. Walking does help. I softly massaged my abdomen and imagined that gas getting out of there. The 1st week is the worst and then it really gets better I'm told. I was, I can start the diet I was on 2 weeks prior to surgery today. So I can do protein drinks, yogurt, sf pudding, etc. I'm breaking the rules my nurses in the hospital gave me, and I'm gonna use the gas x my dad got me. I can't take this much more. There are so many sounds coming from my belly, but no farts or poop. The sounds and feeling in my belly is like when I'd know I was gonna liquid pee, before surgery. Haha. What in wouldn't give for that right now.

Hey Sara Jane so glad you are moving forward .I can't take opiads and have some darvons (no longer sold) for pain. I am only using Tylenol now. I understand the gas. I got gas x strips for hosp had have taken it at home. I'm 5 days out and the gas is getting better. Never thought I'd be so happy to fart. All you can do is drink and walk, drink and walk. I'm not having any major problems sleeping on my side thank heavens. Are you on a clear liquid diet? Everyday is getting better. Hang in there kiddo. Yes we'll all rock these sleeves!

    The need to chew...

Hey Bobbi McGee I had the sleeve Monday and I'm on a clear liquid diet until Tues when I go to post op and eat some food. Try the sugar free Jello. You can chew it. mush it, squish it and swallow it in your mouth. Glad your feeling so good. The ladies are right you had MAJOR surgery, 80% of your stomach is gone so get those stinking thinking eating thoughts out and think about the near future when you are going to look so good. Let your body heal. I took my 1st outside walk today for 10 min and it felt great. We got fat by pushing the normal amounts we can eat so lets follow the Dr's orders and not push any food yet. The words in Janis Joplin's Me and Bobby McGee seems to say it all for me. "Freedom is just another word for nothing else to loose" Good luck you can do it.
  8. Was sleeved Mon 5 pm. Mon night was horrible w/the gas, pain, hooked up to all sorts of monitors. I can't take opiates but was able to take one of my pain pills. The nausea was the worst from the anesthesia. By 6:30 Tues pm the nausea was pretty much gone so didn't need the shots. I came home yesterday afternoon. Today is better than yesterday and tomorrow will be better yet. Gas, stomach bloating is uncomfortable but it does get better. One lady who is a week out says the 1 wk mark is a big improvement. My Dr has her pts on a clear liquid only diet till Tues when we start to eat real food in the post op class. Jello is my main dish till then. Tylenol takes care of any pain. This is a great 67th bday (next month) present I am giving my self. I want to know when people have a BM after surgery. I'd hate to be constipated.

    Pureed protein ideas?

Sounds like your doing well Glitter. I'm on a liquid diet till Tues when I go to class and they feed us real food. How are you feeling?

I'm glad your doing a little better. One day at a time and next week at this time it will be a lot better. I'm tired which I guess normal 3 days out. Today is better than yesterday. Gas is a little better. Want to have a BM so I know I'm not constipated. Sounds like a silly think to be worried about. How did you sleep last night? I got woke up by an Amber alert on my cell phone at 3:40 a.m. All in all slept ok. Thanks, I feel better every day and everyone has a different experience. Mine wasn't the most pleasant, but it was worth it. I know I'm gonna have a new life with this sleeve and am eager to start it.

Thank you JenCovi for the encouragement. It's only 3 days past surgery and today is a little better. I can't wait until next week feeling better and I can eat a little solid type food which will be Tues at post op class. Wow your walking 2 miles at one time or combined? Still great. I started walking 5 min on my gazelle but only using the leg portion. Thank you for reminding me about "Want To". Hard to remember when don't feel great yet. When did you have a BM? That is what I'm concerned about. I'm on a clear liquid diet until Tues. I'm one week post-op tomorrow. The difference in how I felt even four days ago to now is incredible. I'm walking 1.5-2 miles a day and my blood sugars are better than ever before. I'm down 14 pounds. I'm just better all around. In a few days you'll be feeling great! Glad to hear you are home. To me it made a huge difference. I felt so out of it in the hospital. It was a mix of meds, exhaustion and a strange environment. I was initially nervous to go but it was definitely the best move. I hope being home does the same for you Shersun. Also, I keep reminding people to think of their want tos. That has been such a great tool for me. I appreciate you sharing that with us. So, keep walking and reviewing your want tos! It will keep getting better.
  12. Did any of you have heartburn before surgery? I read where the sleeve can cause heartburn for some people. I sincerely your heartburn gets better. I'm 3 days out of surgery and started on Protonix for 90 days. So I'm not sure what is heartburn, gas, pain etc. In the healing phase.

Home from the hospital today 48 hrs after surgery. I'm doing pretty good. Gas is starting to pass a little. On a clear liquid diet with jello till next Tues when the post op class is held an we eat real food. Taking Tylenol for the pain. This is not easy but it's not horrible either since the nausea passed last night. I got home today after dropping a Rx for antacid off at Sams. It was good to be home. I took a 2 hr nap. Get tired easily. There was a good suggestion in another post about Pedialyte at day 8 of her liquid diet that gave her energy. I'm walking and drinking water. Dr told me with in 1 month I'll be feeling great. I'm just taking it day for day. If I'm tired I'll take a nap. How is everyone else doing?

    February/March 2014 sleevers

I can relate April. Surgery at 5 yesterday. Last night was bad. I can't take narcotics cause I get very sick. It's 11:30 pm here now and I'm finally starting to feel human. I was nauseas till 6pm tonight. They get me up every 2 hrs to walk. Last night I was thinking What the hell did I get myself into? But it's better now. The patch dilated my friends eyes who had the surgery Fri. I'm ok w/it. They kept me an extra day (today) due to the rough time I was having. I'm on my iPad and isn't as easy to type as my laptop. I'm glad to be on the other side now. Super Fab hang in there it gets better as they tell me.

Nope. That anesthesia knocked u smooth out. I'm really easy to rouse from it usually. But it does make me very nauseated. The anesthesia makes me soooo sick. Hopefully the anti-nausia meds will work fine and no nausea. Going to bed. Good luck to us sleevers tomorrow. I'll post soon as I'm able.

Hopefully you get to meet with your anesthesiologist and tell them about previous experiences. I have had multiple surgeries and a different complication or weird reaction to the anesthesia. I got to talk to my anesthesiologist before surgery. This time I had a hard time waking up, which I have had before. But I didn't get nauseas and vomit everywhere and I didn't come out unable to breathe on my own (anesthesia caused a partially collapsed lung when I had my band placed in 2009). I will take the struggling to wake up over being violently ill after abdominal surgery. I am making up for it with long walks outside and also trying to walk around the island in my parents kitchen every time I get up because I didn't get out of bed (except to pee twice) for at least 24 hours after surgery. Just making sure I keep that blood moving! Keep us updated. I'm wishing you all the best and know you will pull through beautifully! Wow that was a bad experience you had. I'm glad all is ok w/you. I'll post when I get back to my room tomorrow evening or when ever I can. Just get moving ASAP. I have had quite a few surgeries and walking has always been my savior! Oh yes they make us get out of bed a few hours after going to our room and then make you walk every 2 hrs. Everyone says walking is the best thing. I'll be walking the halls this time tomorrow night. Be glad when it's over.

I am four days out now? Do you count the day you had surgery? Lol. I had surgery Thursday. I already have two girlfriends coming over tomorrow since they have the day off and hubs doesn't and we are all going walking together. I can't wait until I'm cleared to go back to the gym! I dont count the day of surgery. Your doing great. Hopefully I'll be saying the same thing Thurs.
