Smooth Move tea works when your constipated. I am 17 mo's out and have to take a 250 mg stool softener everyday to keep going. For some reason this surgery is constipating. Good luck.

Welcome EllynMae Great group here and you'll have good support and learn a lot from the forums. Where in FL are you having the surgery? I had hip resurfacings in Sarrasota and Tampa. I lived in the Keys, Clwtr, Ft Laud, and Ocala for 25 yrs before moving to AZ. Good luck and again welcome.
  3. I got read the book A Pound of Cure and have started his 2 wk metabolism reset. It's easy to follow and it has moved my scale 1.5 lbs since yesterday. The 7 lb weight gain is my own fault from eating all the wrong things and letting my head hunger get out of control. I'm reversing it now and will get to goal. Also the VSG is constipating for me but with eating Dr Weiner's way I don't need to take stool softeners so far. The only other issue I"ve had from surgery is I have to take Prilosec 1x a day and sometimes every other day. It is so true that the no desire to eat stops and the appetite does return with all the bad head hunger if I let it. I would recommend the book for anyone having a struggling with weight gain or even thoughts of it. I'll keep updating as to how it's going. Good luck to all w/this weight loss journey. Sherry
  4. I'm joining costco for Premier Protein and giving up Sams. Reason: I only take 1 Rx and it's for my thyroid so I don't have Rx ins. No plan D. Been $10 for 90 day supply at Sams for years. My last bottle was $30.32. I asked 2 different people in the pharmacy at 2 different times why the price increase. They both said "Obama Care". I called Walmart for a price check on the script and it's $10 for 90. I mentioned what they said at Sams. I could tell the guy was shocked. He said it has nothing to do w/Obama Care that Sams switched suppliers that caused the price increase. That's $80 a yr increase out of my pocket but the main thing is they lied to me. It had to be management having people in pharmacy tell customers that. I would of stayed a member of Sams but got my Rx at Walmart or Costco had they just told me the truth. They've lost a long time customer. Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their life.
  5. Your just out of surgery. Got to give your body at least a few months if not longer to adjust. You'll be able to eat more things w/o a problem. I don't have a problem eating anything which is not good since I gained 5 lbs and now realize that I have to watch what I eat. I have a shake for a filler. Getting the book by barbaric surgeon Matthew Weiner "A Pound of Cure". He has great videos on YouTube also. I can't let this get out of hand. Enough of my whine. Good luck your doing great.
  6. I hope the stats are correct also. I am not letting it get out of hand which is easy for me to do if I eat all the wrong things that taste so good and are so bad. Too bad spinach, kale etc isn't as yummy as ice cream or donuts. I need to loose 25 + - lbs to be at goal. One day at a time or mouthful in this case. LOL

Keep in touch and let me know how your doing.
  8. I agree Rx costs are out of control here. One reason is the pharmaceutical co's can and do charge what they want as well as drug stores is because they can. In other countries there is a cap on it. I went to MX (185 mi from me) for anti-b's and other meds. Tens of Thousands of people go there all the time because no Rx needed and they are so much cheaper. They are quality meds and are sealed from the manufacturer. The dental care there is `1/3 the cost of the US and just as good. It's ridicules we go to MX for meds and dental care because we can't afford cost in US and they come here and get it free. Go figure. I think everyone should have ins but should have to pay for it. Our ER's are jammed w/people too cheap to go to a community clinic. I don't like paying taxes for others free care. I have no answer to the problem. Maybe someday someone will. Congrag on your great weight loss. Way to go!!!!

Go to his website www.drmatthewweiner.com he has a ton of videos on weight loss surgery and everything that goes with it. I ordered the book and will follow his advice. I can't let myself gain weight because of my eating. I just have to change it. I'll keep you informed.
  10. I've ordered his book. I'm stopping the weight gain now and will reverse it by right eating. Its too easy to fall back into the bad eating habits and thinking. I guess for us it will be a never ending battle to eat right. I wonder how many other VSG's out there have had problems with gaining weight and how they reversed it or if they did. Good luck on your continued weight loss.
  11. All are very true. I'm lucky that I only need 1 Rx. I can go to Algodones MX for meds but luckily I don't need any. Have to take care of ourselves because no one else will if we don't.

I've tried the Premiere power mixed w/water and ice chips. Almost too foamy. Do you use the premade shakes with ice in a blender? I've gained 7 lbs through bad eating and now am going to get back to the correct way to do things. Saw a video on this site for Dr Matthew Weiner a bariatric surgeon and am going to check out his A Pound of Cure book also look on his web site and You tube for his other videos. Sadly I have no problem eating anything and my mind erroneously let me believe I could. Now I have to curb that thinking. Enough of my whining. LOL
  13. Thank you so much for posting the video of Dr Weiner I so needed to listen to that. I'm getting his book. I've gained 7 lbs and I know it will keep going up if I don't stop my bad habits and get going on a better plan. I'm also going to look for more of his videos on You Tube. Again thank you. Sherry

I agree w/Patsy1947 the Premier Protein is the best. I get mine from Sams 12 for $18 and bought the powered also. I like the ready made, grab and go. I've tried a lot of other brands but keep coming back to Premier. I'm going to switch to costco and will post why in a new post.

Glad to hear your on your way. Yes the time will go by quickly. What exactly is the 4 mo period required by Medicare?

I had my sleeve by the best Dr in the area a yr ago Feb. I'm 68 now. I live in AZ Phoenix area, also and make sure you ask your surgeons office about Medicare covering the sleeve because in this state it's on a case by case basis. There are only a few states that have this which I think is ridicules. Just make sure you talk to the surgeons office and make sure the sleeve is covered. I was adamant about having the sleeve and not the RNY. I have not regretted my decision at all. All my tests are normal, I've hiked 5.5 miles 2 wks ago going down 240 steps into Walnut Canyon and back up 240 steps. It was not easy but I did it. I'm doing 2 hrs of Qigong and Tai Chi a day 2x a week and 1 hr 2 days. I feel so much better even though I've only lost 30 lbs. I'm going to go back to Curves and try to loose a few more pounds. All in all I am glad I had the surgery and am much healthier for it. I do have acid indigestion from the surgery but 1 prilosec a day takes care of it. I also have to take a stool softener due to the surgery but it's a small price to pay for my good health. Good luck on your journey.

Good luck to you on your journey to a better way of life and health. I know the Villages, been there many times and loved Two Jays. I lived in Oak Run in Ocala before I moved to AZ and absolutely love it here. I had my sleeve 1 yr ago today at age 66. Everyone is different w/the surgery. I haven't gained or lost any more weight in months but I feel healthier everyday. I went back to doing Qigong and Tai Chi classes 4x a wk. My BP is now normal as are all my blood tests from my 1 yr check last week. I'm more active and like being a size 14 compared to a 18-20. It's not a miracle cure but I have no regrets. Sherry
  18. Has anyone gotten acid indigestion/gas from the surgery? I never had the acid indigestion before and now I do. I'm 6 mo's out of surgery and have to take Prilosec due to the acid indigestion. Dr wants to do an Endoscopy to be sure all is ok. All my blood tests and Vitamins tests are normal. If you have an issue w/acid indigestion how bad is it and what do you do for it? Appreciate any info you guys can give. Sherry
  19. My Dr had me take an RX Protonix I think it was for 3 mo's then said if I had any acid to take Prilosec which I have for 7 mo's but not constantly. I'm grateful I don't have the GERD. I don't know if the acid indigestion goes away with time. I hope for all of us it does. Wishing everyone A Very Happy New Year
  20. I never had acid problems prior to surgery. It is a side effect of the sleeve. I had a colon polyp taken out 10 yrs ago. I am going to try to stay off Prilosec as much as possible due to the polyps. I've heard the gastric bypass can cure acid problems but I did not have any problems prior to the sleeve and its not that bad now just annoying at times. I also noticed I have to sit up straight when I eat and a little while afterward. If I sit any other way it bothers me. Good luck with your surgery all will be fine. Just follow the program, do what the DR says and take one day at a time. The weight won't fly off but that is good. Slow is the way to go if possible. Happy New Year to you and all the great people in this group.
  21. What do they do for a stomach polyp? Does it cause pain or problems? I know nothing about them.
  22. Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year. Thanks for the input. I take 1 Prilosec in pm for 2 wks then go off them for as long as I can then I use Zantac and a acid/gas chewable as needed. I find I don't need the Prilosec as much or often as I did. I was told Prilosec causes stomach polyps. Anyone know if this is true? I'm still holding at 30 lbs. I haven't tried to loose weight but am trying to be more active. But even the 30 lbs has made a big difference, my BP is normal, my arthritis doesn't hurt near as much and I don't feel "fat".

    Calling All Sixties!

My sincere condolences to your loss. I can relate. I had hip surgery, 10 days later my husband dx terminal ca and died 6 wks later. It's a shock to your system physically, mentally and emotionally. Take good care of yourself and just take it one day or even one minute at a time. I would suggest finding a grief group to help you work through your grief. If none are where you live or if your unable to get to one there are groups online. It is very beneficial to talk with others who are going through the loss of a spouse also. If you read there are good books written for grief support. I wish I had an answer to help you except to say I'm sending healing thoughts with this post. Time is the only thing that will help with the pain.
