  1. I'm almost three weeks out and averaging just under 800 / day. The number has been slowly coming up - right after surgery 300 was tough. Yesterday I had a Protein shake in the morning, yogurt for snack, puréed chili for lunch and puréed chicken and snow peas for dinner, along with Fiber tummies, chewable Calcium and multi which put me at about 720. I was going to be done there, but was feeling weak bc I ran at the gym, so I added another Protein Shake which put me at 830. My nutritionist has not given me a calorie goal, she just wants me to focus on protein and eat until I'm satisfied, but listen to my body. I have been light headed a lot with the lower calorie intake. I keep thinking I should keep it low to lose more weight, but am trying not to let myself get in to any disordered thinking. I'm trying to focus on protein and make sure my body is nourished. It is interesting to see how there are so many different programs out there.

    Valentine's Challenge

I'd love to join. I'm only 2 weeks out so my goal will be a bit of a guess. Thanks!
  3. I have always been pretty active, but as my weight goes up I do less and less. I really wanted to incorporate exercise as quickly as possible after surgery. My post op meeting they cleared me for all cardio ( let pain be my guide). Yesterday I just walked on the treadmill,. Today I brought. A book to read on the treadmill, but ended up watching Rachael Ray and decided to run during the commercials. It felt great. I'm really proud of myself . How quickly has everyone else gotten back to exercise?

    Throwing up

I'm 14 days out and on purée. I agree getting my nutrition from food alone is just not possible. I still am having 2 Protein shakes a day giving me 40 grams of protein strait out of the bat. The foods that have worked best for me are Greek yogurt, tomato Soup, and puréed chili. But with those I only get between 50 to 100 calories per meal. My favorite Protein Shakes a unjury and chike. I found the. Both on amazon. I really look forward to them. Best of luck!

    OMG I'M BORED!

My surgeon said cardio is fine - just to use pain as your guide. I did some running at 10 days out. I am cleared to play ice hockey at 4 weeks out. No lifting until 6 weeks, but can do body weight exercises like squats, yoga etc. right now.

    Im a cheater...am i screwed?

Really try not to stress about it. Do you best, but don't beat yourself up over it. I would recommend being as diligent as you can as the date comes closer. Best of luck. The hunger goes away for the most part after surgery!
  7. Omg. I would be angry too! I have stalled just the past two days, but a gain eek! Is it your TOM? I'd call you NUT and review your diet with them. Good luck!

    Health and fitness related gifts?

I love the aria scale. It connects to myfitnesspal so it is documented for me. I haven't gotten anything fitness related for Xmas. I might get myself a wii fit after Xmas.

Do you have a caloric tipping point?

I'm curious what people say about this. I have been at about 600, still only 12 days out. I started walk / running yesterday and got a bit dizzy in the afternoon both days. I'm nervous to increase calories, but also don't want to shut down my metabolism.

    Nutrisystem?

Have a bunch of nutrisystem foods left from pre surgery. Do any of you use any of those foods post op? I'm thinking some of them might be great during the purée stage.

    Can't eat food

I'm curious on the answers for this. I'm only 9 days out so still just on full liquids. I can have yogurt and strained soup in addition to my protein shakes. I get full on like 40 calories of yogur. I don't know how I will be able to get enough nutrients from food without the liquid additions. Good luck!
  12. Am 9 days out and my stomach cuts / not yet scars are crazy itching me. I find myself icing my tummy a bunch just to dull the itch. The steri strips are still on, so I don't think I should be putting anything on them yet. They are driving me bonkers. Have you guys found any solution to the insane itching?

    Liquid diet concerns

I asked for some pills to help with my appetite during the pre-op diet. They said it could raise blood pressure and was not something they could do close to surgery. So make sure you don't take anything without talking to your doctor.
  14. I am 8 days out and have been slowly increasing calories. Yesterday and today I hit 500 for the first times. This seems really low. Should I have more just because or be ok with it as is?
  15. She did not give me a calorie goal. She said 40-60 ou of water and 40+ protein shooting for 60 - 80.

    My Gastric Sleeve Story

I see. Great job - keep it up! It is nice to be getting past the early recovery stage isn't it? I have been feeling better every day.

    My Gastric Sleeve Story

34 lbs in 10 days?!?! Wow wow. I had surgery on the 12th and am down about 11. Lbs. I guess everyone is different.
  18. I was approved for full liquids today which my nutritionist said could include yogurt, cottage cheese, and strained soups. I had a cup of strained tomato bisque and it was delicious. It was 200 calories, so now I am feeling guilty. I am still way low on calories and have hit my protein goals, so this is weird. Does anyone else have these weird guilty feelings? I just feel like it was a bit extravagant with too much fat and carbs.
  19. I am self pay due to my companies exclusions. I do not have co-morbidities, but still do not consider this an elective procedure. I am getting short term disability. I did have to call my insurance company prior to going in to ensure all of the paperwork would get done on time and my pay would not be delayed.
  20. You can take short term disability if you have it.

    Anybody Else Cheating?

Mississippi Queen, I know I might get jumped on for this, but I skipped to full liquids a few days early. I was getting faint from no calories so started on protein shakes. I spoke with my NUT afterwards bc it was on a Sunday and she said it was ok. I'm hoping she moves me to mushy foods tomorrow. I really want to see what she says. I know their program is very general based, but I am hoping we can talk about me and not just the standard program. I am able to tolerate liquids very well. Since they go through me quickly, I do find myself very hungry at times. I want to follow their plan and have intentions of it, but like tis past Sunday, I knew my body needed some protein, so I went ahead with the protein shake. I don't think it was cheating, more listening to my body. I had only half and took it very slow. Then I spoke with my team. I think it is fine to know our bodies, and work with our teams. Sometimes the standard program needs to be adjusted and that is why we have access to our nutritionist. I'm sorry you feel beat up. I do think there are strong opinions on here, which is great, but could also make some peoples to join in if they do not have the same experience. I'm just hoping to listen to my body, work with my team, heal, and make the best choices I can. In conjunction, I'm working with a therapist and overeaters anonymous to work on my addiction. It is definitely a multifaceted recovery process. Just being aware and trying our best I think is important.
  22. So I did not ask my surgeon prior to surgery which boughie size he used. In my research people said he used a 40 fr which I thought was a reasonable size. On the day of surgery I spoke with the other surgeon on his team and asked her. She said that he typically used a 60fr which freaked me out. I told her I was really concerned about it being too big etc. she said she would talk with my surgeon and use the size that he thinks is best for my body. When I spoke with my surgeon before the surgery I reiterated my concern that it would be too big. Then I had surgery and completely forgot about it. The next day there was some concerns over my leak test. His assistant surgeon came to talk to me about it and mentioned that he had used a 34fr boughie on me. I was surprised bc that is really small! A big difference from 60. She told me to take the Water trials really slowly and I did. After a couple of daysI really have no problem tolerating liquids. I think I'm being paranoid, but I'm wondering if she was lying to me to make me think it was smaller so that I would mentally feel like I could be more successful. During the leak test, the stomach didn't look that tiny, and I am able to drink a Protein shake in like 20 - 30 minutes. What do you guys think? I don't feel any restriction really yet with liquids. Which size do you have? Does it make a big difference?
  23. Rick - thanks for the response. I have been nervous bc I have been able to get so many liquids down. I'm hoping the restriction kicks in once I get to solids. Hopefully that is Thursday when I see my nutritionist. It is tough reading on here all the different protocols.
  24. I think it is hard to find the right time. I would go forward with it now, but the recovery is hard. I had surgery on Thursday and did not feel like myself until yesterday. I am still very weak, but able to get around fine. You will need help, but no time will be perfect. Good luck!

    Nausea

My nausea seems to be getting under control. I am gassy a lot when I drink pretty much anything. I have progressed to Protein shakes due to my extreme weakness and they seem to be helping. I'm really looking forward to feeling like myself again.
