  1. Ok 4 weeks today since surgery. 30 pounds gone after surgery, 72 lbs gone since beginning of journey.

I know we talk about all the food issues but I am struggling with clothing issues... I miss my clothes. I know sounds weird at least to my family.. But it was my comfort.. My whole closet is gone. All my dress clothing I worked so hard to find that I looked good in... All my comfortable clothes... I miss my jeans, bras, underwear... It is all gone... I started purchasing clothes but before I can break them in I am shrinking out of them...

Don't get me wrong I love being 5 sizes smaller I love the new eating habits and how things fit and don't hurt but, I can't get dressed without going through 3-4 outfits.. And then still being worried how it looks...

    Anyone else mourning clothes?

  2. Not losing as much weight as I expected. Extremely disappointed in myself. I'm 6 weeks out and down 18lbs. with RNY. I really expected to lose at least 25lbs by now! Especially since I started at almost 300lbs. I could understand it if I was under 250. My sister in law lost 30lbs her 1st 3 weeks and we were about the same weight. She doesn't exercise but I'm on the treadmill regularly. I know I shouldn't compare myself to others but what is it that I'm doing wrong? Waah waah waaah *whiny, I know...lol

This is what I know from my experience with my own body losing weight over the years. My body has its own way of losing and I can't compare it to no one else's way. This is what my body does it will lose a chuck of weight like 12 lbs in 3 days then not lose for like a week or more even a month...than another chuck. It repeats this over and over. Before I use to get frustrated and saw no progress so I would not stick to any diet thinking it wasn't working.

This journey with weight lose had taught me to understand my body and accept the way it does things. So stick with the plan.. I look at it like this... Lose a chuck tighten up, lose a chuck tighten up...it will all be gone one day or another!!!! Just stick with it!!!!

  3. I again want to thank everyone who is taking their time to comment. I plan on going out a lot more now that I am feeling more normal. I will use these tips to help me stay on track! Everyone's advice has been read and considered and is so valuable!

I plan in cleaning out my van today and getting a nice container to pack all my goodies in!!

  4. PS. Surgery date 5/27/14. I plan on returning to work 5/30 possibly 5/31. I am a school teacher so I don't have any lifting requirements. You think this will be ok? Thanks

I would not expect to return to school so quickly. If you are like me you will not be released from the hospital for a couple of days after surgery so according to your dates you will not be out of hospital one day before returning to work and you will be on pain medication more than likely.

I am a student teacher and understand your job duties and to be honest there would be no way for me to have done them that soon after surgery.

I am 2weeks out today, surgery was on 4/28. One thing that makes me tired the most is reading so please consider taking more time for yourself and good luck!!

  5. Thank you guys so much for all the responses and ideas!!

I am so blessed to know I am not alone in this and there are others who have to consider and plan ahead just like me!!!

I just returned from a rehearsal dinner where I took my Protein Shake and asked for a wine glass poured it in it and sat and sipped it and Water while everyone else ate their meals.

I am so proud of myself!! Sitting there with dignity about the choices I have made.

  6. I am only 10 days post-op from a Gastric

Bypass. So on a full liquid diet now.

Yesterday I went out to get my eye checked I brought with me my Protein Shake to last for two meals and my Water.

I ended up out longer than I thought and shake got warm and gross and I didn't want it.

So at first got upset then thought ok I can run to grocery store and get a yogurt. While at giant Eagle I saw they had homemade chicken noodle Soup and decided to skip yogurt and buy just the broth from the soup. I was double proud of myself for sticking to my plan and also having the courage to stand there and ladle out just the broth and proudly walk to counter and buy it.

I was wondering if you leave home and forget food what or where do you turn to find food?

  7. He oil everyone, I went in for my post op visit with my doctor and he have me a good report I lost 4lbs since I saw him last week to have the drain removed. My only problem is extremely low blood pressure. I see my PCP tomorrow morning and I'm on the cancellation list for my cardiologist. My bp today was 62/59 very, very low for me. I'll probably be taken off on all bp meds overtime because I've been on them since 1985 I'll have to be weaned off of them carefully. I take four different bp meds plus cholesterol meds. It will be a good feeling to find that I no longer need all of these meds and I'm asking you all to pray for me as I continue on my journey to regain my health. God bless you all.

I will be praying for you! I understand the BP issue. I have been on BP meds since 1999 after I started having children. I am hoping to be removed from them too. It is a roller last when they change the meds at least it makes me tired. I too am thinking mine is too strong and will have to wait to see him to make the change or send me to the Dr. I hope you get off all the meds and as they remove you, your body transitions smoothly.

  8. I am 7 days post op & I am struggling with Protein too. I can't find a shake that I like. I am not a big fan of chocolate. Has anyone ever just ate Greek yogurt in place of the shakes? I would think as long as I am getting the protein in then that is all that matters. The hospital where I did my surgery has a very strict program & they do not allow exceptions. But it's my body & I think I am intelligent enough to make revisions if they work for me. Protein Shake has 30 grams of protein & Greek yogurt has 16 grams so if I eat 2 yogurts during the day as Snacks I would be getting 36 grams plus what I get from my 3 meals.

My plan has us use Greek yogurt and 1/4 c skim milk as a protein shake. So I think it would be just fine

  9. HI, Teacherlady, I could count back and about the same time I was bottoming out emotionally. Not sure why. I have had a lot of ups and downs. I went a whole day in bed not wanting to talk to anyone. Hang in there I think as we heal and can resume a normal life. That things will be better

Thank you! I guess I knew it would happen just so soon was a shocker and my family is not understanding where it is coming from. My husband keeps saying "what is wrong?"or blaming everything on pain! I will hang in there!! So excited for all the changes..

  10. I finally had a bowel movement! TMI But this was a milestone. Getting tired of the sweet drinks. Need substance! Only 5 days out.[/quote

Ok I will Celebrate with you!! I am still waiting and I am 7 days out! I have tried everything.. Today my Brother called me laughing his head off. His 6 year old son raised his hand in church today and asked for prayer that I would be able to poop!! Hahaha..

  11. Hello everyone! I am 3 days out (surgery was Wed., 4/30) and am feeling pretty good! Still some trapped gas in my left shoulder - I am trying to walk it out. The abdominal gas has mostly dissipated, and have had 2 BMs (thanks to Milk of Magnesia). Have had no nausea at all since early Thursday morning, and no vomiting or other issues. Feel so blessed to have had no complications. My main incision (I guess where the port was) is somewhat sore but only when I sit a certain way. My dr. had to repair a hiatal hernia while he was doing my RNY - I did not even know I had it! Anyone else have that happen???

I also had a hiatal hernia repaired and didn't know about it.

I am so glad you are doing good. It is taking a little adjustments to

Medications and I am finally able to not to have nausea.

The BM is another story:( not happening and I have taken dose of milk of Mag which only caused me to gag! Trying to now pray the poop out of me..hahaha I know it will feel so much better, We are stronger than we think we can do this......

  12. I don't think you did anything wrong to vomit. I have been nausea since surgery.(28th) today I called family doctor and was given suppositories. It has helped!! I have been really good with fluids but not Protein. I will deal with that tomorrow I needed to get dry heaves under control first. Well time to talk a nap. Then up for shower and liquids! Hope everyone is doing well

  13. 4 days post-op. So thirsty too. Hopefully leaving hospital today. Pain management had been an issue. We finally got it figured out then issues with hospital pharmacy. Ugh!! So I want to go home and deal with my local pharmacy.

I keep looking at my husband and saying I did it, really did it!' Excitement should be an emotion we are celebrating!!

  14. Day 4 post-op. Hopefully going home today. I can not believe how thirsty I am. Still have my drain bubble but think it will be removed before I go.

Everything else removed already removed. I am so excited to see the physical changes reflect the changes I have already made.

I can't wait for my own bed. Soon very soon!

    Good luck may's group

  15. Ok been alittle over 24 hours since surgery. Finally got pain and nausea under control. Switched meds and now able to walk. I ended up with the gastric bypass and a hernia repair and another parcel hernia repair that will be fixed after I lose about 60 pounds. Biggest thing that has helped me was ice packs on stomach. I also felt so hot from the meds so cold rags on back of neck. Hope everyone is doing good. Just stay calm and it will pass.. Then we will be on new paths to get healthy and fulfill our dreams..

  16. Well, this is it. I'm finally going to bed. Can't believe the time has come. Excited, nervous, and now second guessing myself although I know in my heart that this journey is very necessary. I'll post as much as possible as soon as I can. Praying for the remaining April preop team! May we all have safe, uneventful transitions to the post op side.

I believe you are up first for today! You will do great! I will be praying for you. I think if we weren't second guessing, we wouldn't be taken this process seriously. I thought I would be more nervous than I am but I believe the peace of God is making things better. I am

Trusting in him for you and me as today's events take place. Good luck and God Bless you!

  17. I will say I never thought this day would arrive! Tomorrow surgery at Riverside in Columbus. Have to be there at 1:00pm surgery at 3:30pm. I am anxious and trying to not be consumed by my thoughts...

I am so blessed to be able to receive this tool to help improve my life. Making this choice has changed me into someone different and I am glad.

I have became an advocate for my own health and needs. Others around me don't always agree but that's is ok.. I know what I need to obtain my dreams.

    Good luck to everyone
