  1. Not really a compliment but this tickled me. My sister in law who has always been thinner than me finally saw me on Christmas day. She said something like "hey skinny" muttered quickly and thats it. She then didn't show up to an annual New Years Eve party even though her husband and kids came. When I asked my mother in law why she wasn't there she said she thought she might be jealous of me because of my weight loss. She said she heard her say she needs to loose weight and has started walking on a treadmill.

No one in my husbands family knows about my surgery but they have certainly seen me exercising my butt off literally. This made me feel very good for several days now. I know its a little mean but honestly, I've been obese for the past 20 years why can't she be a little happy for me.

  2. Walking and walking on a treadmill are two different things. I walked after surgery also but not on any type of equipment until released by my doctor.

I totally agree with this statement. Walking right after surgery is not only ok but recommended. Getting on a treadmill is a whole different experience. If you are light headed or even if you think you are ok you can't miss a step on the treadmill without risking a fall. The first few weeks I was walking around the house at every commercial break and more so back and forth across the room. I would tell you to walk around the house or outside (maybe with someone). Once I started back on the treadmill after about 3 weeks I went at half speed due to the internal healing.

    Good luck to you

  3. I also had not lost any weight when I was about 7/8 months past surgery. I did 2 things that broke this stall.

    1. I downloaded the C25K app on my phone (it is a training program that gets couch potatoes to be able to jog a 5k after 8 weeks. I am currently in week 7 and can't believe my progress. There is a whole thread dedicated to this app under the Fitness Forum.
    2. I joined the Christmas/New Years Challenge under the General Forum. There is a new challenge that just started up called The Valentines Day Challenge. Which asks you to set a goal for yourself and weigh in each week and report your results. The person who started the challenge keeps everyones stats on a spreadsheet. It is very motivational.

The point is it is never too late.

  4. Am I too late? I have my weight from Friday and would like to join...let me know

If you just post your stats - starting weight and goal weight then Bea will include you on the spreadsheet which can be found if you go to the very first post in this thread and click on the link. Good Luck

  5. Where is the unjury Soup located?

Go to www.unjury.com. It might take a few days to get to you but I used the chicken soup and Protein powder for months after my surgery. It is filling yet easy on the stomach. If you order the Protein Powder shake you can make 1/2 portions at a time (4 ounces). There are no crazy questions- please turn to us for help and definitely get in touch with your doctor as soon as possible and ask for an eating plan. My surgeon gave me very specific lists of what I should be eating for the first year after surgery. Hope this helps

  6. I know it is natural to be nervous. I was dropped off at the hospital very early in the morning alone because my husband had to get the kids ready for school and then go to work. I rather he take off work when I got home from the hospital in case I needed help then. Well I felt like I was on auto pilot walking in to the hospital, waiting, going through pre-op procedures etc. I chose to not think too much about it. Before I knew it the procedure was over and I was in a room. Honestly, the hospital stay is so short you don't have to worry about visitors. You'll be back home before you know it. And really it does work. If you put some effort into following your doctors advice you almost can't help but loose weight. It is the keeping the weight off that is the challenge. Once you see how great you will feel after loosing the weight, that will give you the motivation to keep it that way.

Good luck. You will be fine. Keeping coming back to this website for encouragement and advice.

  7. I also hated taking this test. The tech was great and the room and bed were nice and comfy but honestly so uncomfortable. Every time I moved something detached and the tech would come in and reattach. Turned out I had severe sleep apnea then I had to go back and have the test again wearing the mask so they could see what level the machine had to be set to. Two nights of missed sleep I,ll never get back. Now that i am almost to goal I think the sleep apnea is resolved but I am not goint back a third night to see.

  8. I know people who can run marathons who can barely run a 5k in 30 minutes. Honestly that is an unreasonable expectation in the C25K plan. The beauty is it doesn't matter how fast or slow we run....just that we run.

That is a relief to hear. I just thought I was a real slow runner since I wasn't hitting the right distance in the 30 mins.

Do you think the 5 minute warm-up and 5 minute cool down distance walked should be included in the total distance accomplished. For example if you ran 2.7 miles in the 30 minutes and walked .5 miles in the 10 minute warm up and cool down provided for in the app. Could this be the total 3.2 miles (5K) the app is training you for? Just a thought.

  9. I feel the first 6 months or so the weight just fell off. I followed my eating program and exercised regularly and I couldn't believe it every time I got on the scale how quickly the pounds came off. I like everyone else have been on other weight lost programs and have lost weight but never this fast. The next 3/4 months weight loss has slowed down. Now I have to exercise even harder for less and less weight loss. But it is ok with me because I am happy with the way I look now and am thrilled with each new pound lost.

I know there are arguments about whether or not we are doing this "ourselves" well of course we are. However having this extra tool in our tool belt is definitely an advantage over everyone else or we wouldn't have done it in the first place.

  10. So glad to report in:

    Current Weight -146.6

    Goal Weight -139.9

This is a very aggressive goal for me because weight loss has definitely slowed way down. I haven't been in the 130s in 20 years and would be within 5 pounds of my goal. This is unbelievable to me.

  11. We are expecting quite a big snow storm today here in New York. A little bummed because I am into this C25K app which trains you to run a 5K and today calls for 25 minutes of straight running but can't do that with snow and ice on the ground.

As far a being cold all the time, I think of it like this- I think our bodies are burning more calories trying to warm us up. I think I read that somewhere that the body has to burn more calories when you are cold to keep you at around 98 degrees. So thats one good thing about being cold all the time.

  12. Ok not only did I make my goal but I surpassed it by 3 pounds. I am 146!. I credit this thread with getting me there (this plus starting the C25k app). I had not lost any weight in 2 months and was begiinning to accept that maybe this was the weight my body was happy with and thats all she wrote. In the 6 weeks of this challenge I lost 7 more pounds. Thank you Bea and thank you to all the great people and all the encouragement found on this website. I'll see you at the Valentines day challenge.

  13. I currently have about 4 pairs of pants, 2 skirts, 3 dresses and about 10 tops in my double door huge bedroom closet. There is something so freeing about knowing I can reach in, grab anything and it will fit me and look pretty good on. I have saved myself a ton of time not thinking about "what will I wear today" and having a range of sizes from an 8 to 20. I think this is one of the best perks of loosing this weight.

  14. Lynda,

I have been reading your posts for almost a year now and have always found your advice and encouragement so calming and reasonable. Thank you for all your help on these forums and for showing us how its done during the tough holiday season. Congrats on the 134. Keep posting.

  15. Hi Bunny,

Thank you for sharing that incredible story. You are an inspiration and beautifully summarized what I and many others are feeling. I too was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea which came as such a surprise to me. I discovered it during my pre op testing. I could never get used to the cpap machine and frankly stopped using it after 3 weeks. I was wondering if you had gone back for another sleep study after your weight loss to see if the sleep apnea had stopped. I've been thinking of this but of course not looking forward to enduring another night with the wires and camera etc..I've kind of just ignored the whole thing. I am of course expecting that loosing the weight has stopped this problem.

  16. My doctor wants me at 800 calories per day for weight loss and 1000 calories for maintaining. In the first 2 months getting to 800 calories was a challenge but once your are able to eat solids it becomes quite easy or even too easy to get to 800 calories. Now at almost 10 months I struggle with keeping it under 1000 calories a day. However I exercise fairly intensely almost every day so still loosing very slowly.

  17. If you feel akward at the gym why don't you try downloading this free app its called C25k which is short for "couch potato to running a 5 k". Its 3 days a week for 8 weeks and it guides you through a training course of walking and running leading up to running a 5k(about 3.2 miles). I am on week 6 and am finding it helpful in breaking through a stall. You don't need a gym membership to get a great workout.
