  1. I have been with my wife for 30 years, 28 of them married. We've been through quite a bit, but we've weathered the storm together!! It hasn't always been easy, and we weren't always on the same side, but in the end, we've made it through together, leaning on each other, and celebrating with each other!! She herself just went through a traumatic experience involving a life-threatening condition, where a near-emergency hysterectomy was necessary and I almost lost her!! Of course I was there for her every step of the way! Now that she's made it through this, she's been taking great care of herself and dropping pounds like crazy!! I however haven't had the same success on my own. When I first decided to go for the surgery, she was not at all for it...but after quite a bit of research and meeting with the surgeon and staff, she as well as the family are now extremely supportive. She (jokingly, I think!!) says her only concern is that I'll leave her for some younger woman, since I may be getting "more attention"...but there's no other woman on God's green earth who's ever been as special to me as she has always been, so no matter what size I am or ever will be, that's not going to happen!!! Definitely we're in it to win it!!!
  2. Hope you get a date soon!! Mine is coming up this Monday...getting anxious!!!
  3. Please accept my apologies and excuse my ignorance, but I have never heard of phentermine...is this a type of appetite suppression medication? Anyway, my nutritionist never mentioned anything about it...just said to try and count on willpower. And for this reason, she was very much against an all-liquid pre-op diet. She thought it was a bit cruel to put someone on a post-op type diet when you still have a pre-op body. I'm on week 2, which allows Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch, and a very limited low-carb, high Fiber and protein dinner, with 64oz of liquids in between. Snacks are allowed, but all must be sugar-free (and pretty much calorie-free!!).
  4. Okay, Taylocat...you must be REALLY close by me...I live in Parlin!! So if you don't mind me asking, where are you? I'm living here in LaMer...I'm sure you know where this is?
  5. Hello Pat!! Welcome!!! When I started the process, my nutritionist first taught me how to eat all over again...very interesting...then she put me on 1 Protein shake a day. I actually started losing! Now that I got my surgery date (January 27th), she then put me on the 'Liver-shrinking diet', which is 2 shakes a day, and a very small meal. Taking some getting used to, but I can't complain...at least it's not all liquids! She says that by the time I have the surgery, I'll be so used to the liquids and small meals that the adjustment will be a piece of cake!! (Pardon the pun!!) Wish you much success!!
  6. Congrats Journey2bethin!!! Keep up the great work!!!
  7. My nutritionist has me on Powerade Zero for Pre-Op, and strongly suggested it for post-op as well...zero calories, decent taste, and gives you the benefits of a sports drink. I was told to stay away from the Gatorade as well as the G2, because of the sugar content.
  8. Now you can get your date set, and relax and prepare...the best is yet to come!!
  9. Congratulations, Shay!!! Certainly about time!!! I wish you much success!!!
  10. Hello All! I'm located in Central Jersey...getting sleeved on January 27th at St. Peter's Hospital (great facility!!!), by Dr. Anish Nihalani. Anyone else close by?
  11. What...what...WHAT??!?!
  12. Truly hoping it's just a bump in the road for you...hope you get discharged today, so you'll feel much better in teh comfort of your own home!!
  13. Mine is the same day, and I'm just as excited and anxious!!!
  14. I like the unjury flavors...I was also liking the Chike shakes, until my nutritionist steered me away from them because of the high carb count. The Lean 25 brand (from GNC, if they are in your area) are pretty good as well.
  15. Hey KittyChick, Definitely understand your situation!! Most of my family is very cool and supportive with it, but there are a few haters!! Also, my sister (who had the bypass done 10 years ago) warned me about which family members I should avoid taking about it to. I would think that such a situation which would give you such benefits would be a positive thing all around, but there are always those who choose to doubt!! 'I' support you, so i hope that counts for something!! BTW, I love your reference, because it's so true...Ain't nobody got time for that!!
  16. Great!! This IS good news, ShayLove!! Now HOPEFULLY and PRAYERFULLY you'll get your approval news and be on your way, like you should have been quite some time ago!! Very happy for you, Shay!!!
  17. I get sleeved on the 27th, and started my liver-shrinking diet yesterday. Essentially I'm eating the way I would be post-op, but with the pre-op stomach...they say the first few days are the hardest, and I think they are right!
  18. I'm sure perseverance will win out, Shay...and it will all be worth it in the end!! Wishing you the best...and SOON!!
  19. Yeah, this sounds like what I'll be dealing with as well. Today is day one, and so far it's kinda tough, since I also had my pre-op appointment at the hospital today. Had to be sure to fast for that...couldn't even have the protein shake! Thanks for the words of encouragement...and I wish you the very best next week!!! Please keep posting your progress, KittyChick!!!
  20. Shay? Any updates yet???
  21. Hello All!! I'm about to start my 2 week liver-shrinking diet...however, it seems like it may be pretty manageable, since according to my nutritionist, I can eat...just a very limited amount. Having Protein Shakes for Breakfast and lunch, but dinner is just a few ounces of food, and no sugar, no starches, no Snacks. Surgery is on the 27th of January, Anyone else on this type of diet?
  22. For all those who are talking about drains...is this something that you have at the hospital? Do they ever send you home with a drain, or do you need to stay in the hospital until the drain is removed? My surgery date is 1-27, and I'm just wondering what to possibly expect... Thanks very much for hearing me out!
  23. I really like this story...you truly are an inspiration to us who are at the beginning of our journey. This is basically the same thought process I am hoping to go into this situation with...if the hunger is gone, I think the success could be greater for me, since I think the better part of my battle isn't the losing weight, but the keeping it off!! Congrats, and keep up the good work!!
  24. Hello rayray84, I'm still pre-op, and I'm HOOKED on the Quest Bars!!! Hoping and praying that I can tolerate them post-op!! My favorite...right now anyway...is the chocolate Chip Cookie Dough! Glad to hear that you're able to have them post-op... Thanks for sharing!
  25. Thank you so much.. How do I do a countdown ticker?? Go up to the top right corner and click on your name (assuming you're logged in), and then click on 'Edit My Profile'. From there, click on Signature, and on that page near the bottom, there's a part you can click on that says you can create tickers. From there, just follow the instructions. If you need additional info, please let me know!
