    Weight lifting

I was told the same thing...6 weeks, and I was dying to start using the weights!!! Now I'm lifting that much more, to try and gain back some of muscle lost during the weight loss process...it's much easier now, and much more fun!!!

    Clear liquid Diet

Also some of the protein shakes can be calorie-heavy...take a look at the ones you're drinking and see what you're taking in.
  3. Okay...okay...I know I don't look like that anymore...I'll change my picture, I promise!!!

    Pain beneath incision

Actually I had what sounds like the exact same pain...used to bother me a little bit when I did some of my walking. I did bring it up to my surgeon, and he did tell me to keep an eye on it and let him know if things change or it gets worse...then what happened was the more active I got, the more it went away. I would say be sure to mention it to your surgeon, but if it's the same as my instance, my guess is that it should get better with time. Best of success to you!!

    I can't exercise!

Congrats to you!!! I bet you're truly feeling great, and that's wonderful!!!

    Hours between doses

When I asked this same question, I was told the only interaction to be concerned with is the Iron and the calcium, which need to be outside of 2 hours of each other. That and the fact that you can't take too much calcium at the same time, because your body only stores what it needs at each dosage.
  7. I weighed myself at home the day of the surgery. I did this without a stitch of clothing on, to get my actual weight. I then went to the hospital, weighed in with just the gown, and weighed the same. At least I had some consistency! When I go for office visits to my surgeon and nutritionist, the scale seems to fluctuate all over the place! Once I hit goal weight, I kind of let my clothing be my gauge.

    Coffee?

According to my Nutritionist, I was allowed coffee 4 weeks post-op. The concern is more the caffeine than anything else. With that, I asked if it was okay for decaf. She said one cup of regular, and anything else decaf for the rest of the day. Just be careful with the sweeteners. One other caveat...coffee, be it regular or decaf counts as liquids, so count them as your daily liquid intake! Wish you the best!!

    Protein bars!

Again, Quest Bars...best selection and variety, great source of Protein, and not bad on the calories, I've even seen in a few places where there are recipes containing Quest Bars. One person even told me to try slicing up a chocolate chip Quest bar and putting it in the over for a few minutes, and it comes out and tastes just like chocolate chip cookies!
  10. I originally was going for the lap-band surgery because it seemed to be the simplest, and I had not been aware of the gastric sleeve. After doing more research, I went for the sleeve because I wanted something permanent, yet not as invasive as the bypass. I love my decision, and I love the results!
  11. I THINK I FINALLY found an amount for maintenance...but I still can't stop counting calories!!!

    Twoterville at last!

Wonderful news!!! Onward and 'downward'!!! Congrats!!! I have the FitBit, which works pretty much the same as the Jawbone...I love it, and it's a great motivator!!! Wishing you much success!!!

    My Sleeves are Too Long!

I noticed the same thing when I started losing....it's not so much that your arms are getting shorter, it's more that since you're now smaller, your taking up less body material for your clothing, so the clothes sorta 'hang more' off of you. As SimplyChearvon says, it's really a great NSV!! Wish you the best!!

    Fitbit

That's where I hot mine from about a year ago, and been enjoying it ever since! One little know feature they have is if by chance you lost yours, you can call the company and let them know... they will check the servers and see if you haven't connected for awhile. If not, they'll send you a replacement, free of charge!!
  15. Am I the only nutjob who will be hitting the gym Christmas morning?!?!?

      Shells_Almost_There

I'll be there! My gym is a 24-hour keycard place, so they don't have to staff it on holidays, etc. :)

    where do you live?

Originally from Philadelphia PA, and currently live in Sayreville NJ...Jersey Shore!
  17. Best bet is it takes lots of notes, ask lots of questions (write each one down as you think of them!), and get a folder or binder to keep all the information that will be given to you. I found for me that organization was key to keeping everything together both physically as well as mentally. But believe me when I tell you...as much as it can be a bit stressful, it's truly all worth it in the end!!

    Right, Wrong...Good, Bad?

It sounds alot like it could be dumping syndrome...something that you re-introduced just isn't staying with you. It may be a good idea as RJ'S/beginning suggests, and talk to your surgeon/nutritionist about it. I had a similar issue at that same stage, but I came to find out that I was drinking the Isopure, which contains Splenda...ol' Sleevie Wonder wasn't having any part of that, so once I stopped, everything bowel-wise turned to normal. Wish you the best!!
  20. Reached Goal...weight going up slightly...hope it's muscle!!!

      BryBro63

Thanks Stevehud!! Worked really hard at it!! As far as the weight gain back and forth, I think it may be a variety of things...I've been hitting the weights really hard to get back some of the muscle lost, and I was told in order to do that successfully, I need to add a few more calories. That along with holiday festivities....well, you know!! Just trying to find the balance right now.

    2. ProudGrammy

      ProudGrammy

hey dude - 140 lbs down - how great are you!!! you'll find that "right" balance - i know you will - go ahead "carefully" enjoy those holiday festivities - who deserves it more?? big kudos kathy

Thanks much, proudgrammy!! Looks like you're doing great yourself!! I plan to enjoy whatever Sleevie Wonder will let me get away with, but of course within reason!! Believe it or not, planning to hit the gym on Christmas morning...probably to let myself go guilt-free for the rest of the day!!

    GOT APPROVED!

Congrats!!! Best advice...stay focused on the prize...the end results will be wonderful!! Also, the liquid and powder diet won't be as bad as you think...for the most part, you'll probably be more focused on the upcoming surgery than anything else. Wishing you the very best success!!!

1 yr and 7 mos out

I'm where you are...HW - 316, SW - 269, and currently at 180. I am told by my Nutritionist that I'm a mix between gaining muscle and loose skin. Aside from cosmetic surgery, the last few pounds could be hard to lose. Could this also be your situation as well?
  23. I was just talking about this very subject...I now notice this, not because I'm being self-righteous or anything, but more because I see my old self in the habits of others, and there are habits that I thought I would miss but I don't. My co-worker went out to lunch and grabbed a very un-healthy meal, which was the exact same meal I would have pre-surgery. The meal was 5 pieces of fried chicken, extra large fries, extra large soda, 2 biscuits, Cole Slaw, and 2 hot apple pies. For my own sake, I did the calorie count and noticed that the single meal that I used to have came to more than 3700 calories!!! I realized I used to take in this much in a SINGLE MEAL, and now I don't even take in that many calories in 2 full days, including snacks!! I truly wonder how long I would have lasted at that pace!!

    Fitbit

The following major things it's known to do are - Counts your daily steps, and converts this info into calories burned and distance covered, among other things Has a silent alarm you can set to wake you Track your exercise Links with MyFitnessPal to keep track of food intake and calories burned Keeps track of sleeping patterns Keeps track of weight goals There are more features, but these are the most common ones. Wish you the best!!
  25. I've told family, my boss (for obvious reasons, but he's very cool and respects my wishes of privacy), and few very close friends. I don't have a problem talking about it, but it's truly a personal thing. My sister had gastric bypass surgery, and she told me it's not so much you who changes...it's more the people around you that change...friends as well as family. I'm now almost 11 months post-op, and I'm finding that truer words were never spoken!!! You find out very quickly who your supporters are, who your haters are, and who could care less one way or the other!!
