  1. I don't know what I am going to do. Two of the docs Dr. Deol recommended are only 3 miles from my house... but when I've brought up their names on LBT, no one has come forward and said, "Yeah, they are great." I've heard nothing from their patients. Also, I think I read somewhere that one of them had only done 25 bands. I'm not wanting to be a guinea pig when I get my fills. I even wrote to one of their patients directly, I believe she even works for them.... no response. If they were wonderful, I'm sure she would have responded.

I've heard great things about Port Huron. I may just drive there. It would only be about a 45 minute drive.... but hey, I'm worth it!

Debbie asked me if I still wanted copies of my records, since new people may be taking over the office. I told her yes. Actually, I think I will make several copies, so if I try the place by my house and don't like it, I can go elsewhere.

I'm just thankful that she did my surgery before leaving.

Good luck to all of you! Let's keep in touch and try to figure this out together. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

  2. Candle, I was told not to put anything on my incisions. The doc did take off all my steri-strips at my week visit. She said that baby oil will take off the stickiness. She just said to make sure to do it right before showering or the baby oil will seap into the wounds.

I was given the o.k. to add cheese, eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, and mashed potatoes to my list of foods. Warning about eggs! I took one egg and scrambled it with a slice of cheese. I chewed it thoroughly and by the time I ate half of it... I was very sick. I found out what getting food stuck is like and the wonderful thing they call sliming! Not fun!!! I finally had to throw it up because I was heaving a lot anyway. I figured it would do less damage to just get it out. I know TMI. But I just wanted to warn you.

Other than that, I feel great. I love getting full so fast!

  3. Hi all Michigan Lap-Banders!

Well I just found out today that my Lap-Band Doctor, Dr. Zoe Deol, will be moving out of state, and I need to find a new doctor. :faint::think I'm very sad about this, I was looking forward to having Dr. Deol as my surgeon. I have been working all summer on my pre-op doctor visits (I am not yet banded, and I had just one test to go! :)) So now . . . I need to find a new Lap-Band doctor, someone I trust to do surgery on me and all the follow up stuff. Dr. Deol's office gave me some referrals: Dr. Krause of Beaumont Hospital (Royal Oak) and Doctors Meguid & Hanasli (I'm not sure I spelled those correctly) of Bon Secours Hospital. Is anyone here familiar with any of these doctors, and maybe had your lap-band surgery performed by them? Any information on a good doctor would be most helpful! I'm really at a lost right now, I've done so much work and research since January of this year, now I need to find a new surgeon I can trust. Please help!!!!!:help:

Is any one else here losing Dr. Deol as well?

Oh my gosh Rose, I feel so bad for you. I just got in under the wire with Dr. Deol. I bet I was one of her last surgeries. It took me 10 months from the time I decided to get the band till surgery. I would have gone nuts if she told me she was leaving before my surgery, after all that testing.

Good luck to you. I hope you get your band soon!

  4. I too am a patient of Dr. Deol's. I haven't a clue as to where to go from here, but I know that she did mention Dr. Krause is out of Royal Oak Beaumont, and I believe the other two are out of Bon Secour. Did you happen to get anything in the mail from her office? I haven't as yet, but I am sure we will get something. I am going to try to get in for one last fill this month before she leaves.

I'm so sad that she is leaving, but she got a great offer and she deserves it. She was getting a letter ready to send to patients and gave me a copy while I was in the office. You'll probably be getting it soon. If you don't, let me know and I can give you the details.

  5. EVERYBODY CALLS ME: Marilyn, my dad calls me Marz, my DH calls me Carrot Top.

MY PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS INCLUDE: hubby of 15+ years, DS Trevor (12), DS Brendan (will be 9 in 2 weeks).

MY NON-HUMAN FAMILY CONSISTS OF: A Leopard Gecko, named Desert, like the one on the Gieko commercials except he's orange & tan and only talks when I've had one to many margaritas! A black guinea pig named "Hamster" and a frog whom I don't believe has a name! We had a cat for about 3 days.... Until my DH said it was either him or the cat... I got out-voted!

    I LIVE IN: Roseville, Michigan.

OCCUPATION(S): Until a year ago, I was a self employed Graphic Designer for 10 years. Which was very convenient while my kids were little. Now I'm a Substitute Teacher. Never a dull moment! I also create handmade greeting cards and sell them at craft shows. And like Nana, it keeps me off the streets and out of the kitchen!

AVOCATION(S): I also love to create scrapbooks and travel. I also like taking my boys to the zoo and waterparks.

  6. Hi everyone,

Is anyone experiencing spasms around where the banding would be running up your throat? They last a few seconds but are tough! Also is anyone else nauseous? I think I am getting scared at this point.

Advice please! What foods is everyone eating? I think mine are making me nauseous.

    Thanks!!

    Jody

I was very nauseus the last two days. I have had dry heaves too. Today I took some Maalox and threw it up. I read that nausea can happen from dehydration and that we are supposed to keep sipping Water all day. I started doing that this evening, and I am feeling much better. An earlier post here said that her doc wasn't concerned when she threw up once and had nausea. Just try sipping Water and get it under control quick.

  7. I had surgery on monday. I am so very nauseus. I took some Maalox and threw it up. I don't feel like drinking anything, but am forcing myself to have at least a little bit of Gator Ade or CIB. Any suggestions? I'm worried about my band. I have had the dry heaves a couple of times, but only threw up the one time.

  8. julialois: Hi my name is Shirley and I too am from Michigan. I got tired of getting screwed around from the crew at Harper Hospital, so... I went to <p>Henry Fords in Detroit. It was fantastic!!! I had Dr. Jeffrey Genaw as my surgeon ;he is chief of surgery;. Henry Fords is a center of excellence hospital. So if you have h.a.p. ins. it's covered in full, because they understand that if they nip this in the begining stages, they won't have to pay for blood pressure meds., or diabetic hospital stays. In my case they pd. for a right, and left knee. &quot;just done in May&quot;. So as far as running you around like most insurances do. NOPE!!! If you get approved from this surgeon, and have h.a.p. your good to go. If you have to go through the ins. pain, well,,, he's worth it. If you can't youse this pass it on.... Shirley......48082 and 48656

Shirley, I noticed your zip code is 48082. I grew up in that area code! I lived on Beverly St. (14 Mile). I have lived in Roseville for 15+ years now. I was banded on Monday, 8/27/07, so I'm very new to this. I'm still very much in the gassy stage! I can't wait for this to "pass"! Hee hee

  9. To all of my fellow Aug. 27th banders...

I hope you are all doing well. I'll be glad when all this gas leaves! I'm so uncomfortable! I'm walking and taking Maalox, but still feeling 12 months pregnant! LOL I do a little happy dance every time I am able to let some gas out! Which by the way, my family finds very weird! Ha ha

My incisions only hurt when I move from laying to sitting or when I bend over. I find laying on my stomach comforting, I'm hoping that is o.k.

I'm sticking to liquids, but will tire of this soon. Especially after 4 weeks of shakes pre-op! I swish when I walk!

I'm keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers!

  10. It wasn't a bad procedure. I'm feeling pretty good except for the gas. Walking and Malox helps. I hear that each day gets better, so I can't wait until tomorrow! I too was very tired. I chalked that up to only getting 3 hours of sleep the night before surgery and the fact that sleeping in a hospital is impossible! My roommates IV kept beeping! I'm glad to be home in my own bed with no interruptions.

I couldn't get myself to watch the live gastric band videos before surgery, but I've watched them since I got home. Pretty neat. My 8 y.o. son came in and asked what I was watching. He said, "Ewww gross!"....but then proceeded to sit down and watch the whole thing with me. Boys... you gotta love 'em! :heh:

  13. Hope you are doing well today! I need all the positive and encouraging surgery and post surgery updates I can get today!!!! I can't believe how "out there" I am right now.......!:whoo::whoo::whoo:

I know it's this damn liquid diet thing that's really making me into a lunatic!!!!:omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg:

Judi, What's the trouble? Are you tired of the liquid? Did you try it with a little crushed ice? I found that is helping me a lot. :tea: I was also told I could drink Crystal Light in between for flavor. Yum, something other than chocolate. I never thought I'd get so excited about a sugar free drink! :whoo:

For inspiration, there is a thread that has all of the members of this website and how much weight they have lost. Check it out, it's very cool and made me realize that 4 weeks of Optifast is going to be so worth it. Also, get on the scale and see how much you have lost. We aren't suffering for nothing!

I'm right here with you. I'm on day 10 of 28!

  14. My PCP was not supportive at all with my decision to have this done, which is why I am going to switch to one she recommends.

Wow, that is so weird. My PCP was also not supportive of the lap band either. He actually had the nerve to compare it to an abortion! He said he couldn't "recommend it" because he thought there were other ways to lose weight. He crossed so many words on my consent form that Dr. Deol said insurance would never accept it. Finally after making me go through months of testing, I guess he felt like he had to sign it.

  15. hey Bandzski, I had my band done by Dr. Deol last month... had first fill today! good luck!

I'm so glad to have found someone else with the same doctor. Please keep me informed on your progress. Dr. Deol seems very competent, thorough and caring. I'm glad she will be doing my surgery. I'm not the least bit nervous. How long were you on Medifast? I'm on week 2 of 4. I found it really hard at first, but it seams easier as I go. How long did it take you to get approved? It took me 7 months once I started my testing. My PCP put me through the ringer! At least now I know I'm healthy... inside and out! How are you feeling after the fill? Sorry about all the questions, I'm just excited to see someone else with the same doc on here.
