  1. FighterGirl,

Wow, 170 lost! That is amazing! Congrats to YOU! That is very impressive.

Can you tell me a little about why you had to have revision surgery? Sometimes I wonder if my band is too tight when I'm holding Fluid.

Will you be going to the meeting in St. Clair Shores on Wednesday? I thought I might try it.

  2. I love my band! I can't say that enough. I am a 42 year old female. I live in a suburb of Detroit. I've had my band for about 10 months and have lost 95 lbs. I went from taking 3 blood pressure meds to taking none. I no longer use a C-Pap machine to sleep at night. My energy level is higher than I ever thought possible! I love my band! Sorry, I said that already, didn't I? :Angel_anim:

Please feel free to contact me if I can be of support.

  3. I was banded on 8-27-07. I was on a liquid diet for 4 weeks prior to that. By the end of September, I was off of the 3 blood pressure pills I had been on! My energy level is awesome!!!! I don't think twice about dropping off my car for repairs and walking 3 miles home. I used to tell my kids that I couldn't walk a block to the park because it was too far. I recently went off my C-Pap machine for sleep apnea. My ankles, knees, and feet used to throb from 6 hours of teaching. Now, I they don't hurt at all. When my weight was at it's highest, my chest would hurt when I would lay down. As of this morning, I'm just 5 pounds away from the 100 pound mark! I LOVE MY BAND!!!! :cursing:

  4. HI ALL,

JUST A QUICK NOTE TO LET THE METRO DETROITERS WHO ARE EAST SIDERS KNOW THAT I'VE FOUND A SUPPORT GROUP. IT MEETS THE 1ST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH (THAT'S THIS COMING WEDNESDAY) AT 6:30 PM. IT'S AT THE BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH ON THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF LITTLE MACK AND FRAZHO IN ST. CLAIR SHORES. I THINK I'LL ATTEND, AT LEAST THE FIRST TIME, ANYWAY.

    JULIA

Please keep us posted on how this meeting is. If you like it, I may join. I'm in Roseville.

  5. The bypass is so risky. Being the mother of two children, I never even considered it. Sure bypass makes you lose weight fast, but I've seen many people gain it back too. I'm thrilled with my band. I wouldn't have wanted to lose weight any faster than I did. I've lost 75 lbs. in 6 months. I feel wonderful! I've also heard on here that surgeons push bypass because they get more money for it and don't have to deal with follow ups.

  6. HI everyone!

I'm new here. I live in Roseville, (hello eastsiders!) I'm researching surgeons and I'm wondering why it seems no one here has used the Dr.s in St. Clair Shores, which are out of St. John Hospital?

Do they have a bad rep?

They are practically in my back yard, so it would be so practical for me to use them, but not if they are not a good team.

It seems most here opt to go to Port Huron or into Detroit?

    Just wondering why??

would love to chat with anyone that can help me thru this process.

    Thank you!

    Hi Yankeeblue,

I live in Roseville also! I'm at 12 & Utica Rd. I was one of the ones who chose to go out to PH. The SCS docs do a lot of different surgeries. I'd rather a doc who does only one surgery and does it well. I'll be curious to see how you find the docs in SCS. I haven't heard anyone stand up and say, "Yes, they are wonderful." If I had, I wouldn't have such a long drive to get fills.

  7. Hey Rose,

It was good to hear from you. I'm so glad that you are so thrilled about Beaumont. That's so important! You are gonna do great. Another month isn't a lot to wait in the scheme of things. It seems like forever when you are trying to get approved though. I hope you end up loving your band as much as I love mine. I got a fill on Thursday. He filled it and had me drink Water, it HURT. So he unfilled it slightly right away. I was fine on liquids for 12 hours. Then I had apple sauce. It was fine. I had a Protein Shake for Breakfast the next morning and some coffee. It was fine. I had another Protein shake in the afternoon and I felt really tight. I was trying to decide whether or not to call for another slight unfill. I decided to stick with liquid for another day and see if I was just swollen. I tend to hold a lot of water. I think it's fine now. I'm being very careful with what I am eating though. It's wonderful to get full on a few bites!

    Keep in touch,

    Marilyn

  8. I am dealing with this very issue. I'm wondering weather to call my doc. The problem is he is 1 hour away.

I'm wondering if it's just a little temporary swelling. As I tend to hold a lot of Water and my band has been tight in the mornings in the past. I had my second fill yesterday. I stayed on liquids for 12 hours then had a small cup of apple sauce. That was all fine. This morning, I had a Protein Shake and then some coffee. Everything was fine. At about 1pm, I had another Protein shake. I drank half of it and started having trouble. I stopped drinking it and sipped a little hot coffee it went down after a few minutes. I probably drank it too fast. I'm hoping that if I just sip, sip, sip, I'll be fine. I'm going to stay on liquids and sip for the weekend to see what happens.

  9. I read on another post here that some docs choose to do the sleeve because they get $40 grand for it and they only get $20 grand for the Lap-Band. Pathetic! The first thing I would do is find another doc - one with your same views. Are you anywhere near Port Huron? I drive 1 hour to get there when there are other docs just a few miles from my house. Port Huron is a Lap Band Center of Excellence. That's ALL they do. They have done thousands of them. I felt I owed it to myself to go with the best care. There is a lady on here that drives 4 hours one way to go to the PH center! (Their staff is wonderful too.)

As far as the other surgeries, aren't we looking to surgery for our health? Why would we compromise our health with one of the other surgeries? It seems that atleast trying the lap band first would make sense. Also, as far as the slower weight loss with the band, I've lost 70 lbs. in 5 months with the band! I wouldn't want to lose it any faster. And as long as I keep the band at a good fill, I don't have to worry about gaining it back. Also, I don't have to worry about malabsorbtion.

  10. Hi Rose,

Did you get a surgery date yet? Good luck! Let me know when your surgery is, so I can keep you in my prayers. The Lap-Band is wonderful. You'll be happy you did it. I'm getting my second fill tomorrow in PH. I had to cancel my last appointment because of car trouble. I'm ready for a fill and to start having greater losses again. It's been slow this last month.

  11. DH and I drive 4 hours one way to get to Port Huron each month. Love all the staff there and Dr. Bhesania is wonderful!!

WOW, I'm not going to complain about my 1 hour drive! I have Dr. Bhesania also. I miss Dr. Deol's personality and warmth, but hopefully with time, Dr. B will grow on me. His expertise is what's most important to me anyway.

  12. Thank-you so much for all your support and prayers Marilyn! It is very much appreciated. I'm still working towards my goal of being banding in January (or even early February, I had a few appointments get delayed). I had a scare with possible breast cancer but it turned out to be ok (something called a fibroadenoma, no type of cancer at all). Praise the Lord! So I'm happy and healthy and eager to get my lap-band and start a new life!

I hope you are enjoying the holidays, and everything is going well for you! Please keep in touch, and may you have a happed and blessed New Year!

Rose, I am so glad to hear it wasn't breast cancer. Now you are on your way to bandland!!!! It took me 10 months to get to surgery, so don't lose hope if it takes another month. It'll just make you all the more ready. It's a wonderful tool. I'm so happy I have mine. Time for a fill though. Sugery foods kept following me during the holidays.... when I wasn't looking, they would jump in my mouth! Yikes!

  13. Dr. W., I've really enjoyed your posts on this thread. They are very informative.

I've recently had to find a new fill doc, as my surgeon moved out of state. Luckily, I had a few to chose from. My surgeon was Dr. Zoe Deol in Troy, Mich. I believe that it's because of her excellent reputation that docs weren't leary at all about taking on her patients. I dedided to go to the Port Huron Lap Band Center which is farther away. They have a great reputation. And afterall, isn't that what's important.

Oh yeah, and I love my band! I like that all of my parts are still intact!

  14. Actually, I decided to go to out to Port Huron. It's a bit of a drive, but I've heard great things about them. I live only 3 miles from the ones in St. Clair Shores, but I haven't heard anything good about them. I don't think I'm ready for a fill yet, but the Docs in PH want to see me every month for the first year. That's fine with me. It keeps me on track. Keep in touch. Good luck with Royal Oak.
