Post-op Pain Control? IV Tylenol? Not convinced.
gohelpyourself replied to gohelpyourself's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I said the same thing at first because I have been a nurse for over 14 years and never heard of IV Tylenol. Apparently it is new and according to a few of my anesthesia friends...they swear by it. It is super expensive too. I am hoping I do not need any meds. I want to feel well enough to walk and decompress and get my fluids and go home. Praying all goes well so I can get back to my family -
No drain tube after VSG?
gohelpyourself replied to Nevermind's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Having it done in New York. No drains at all post-op. Two night stay and they check for leak right in the OR during surgery so you can start having clears when you are fully recovered from anesthesia. -

Congrats! There is finally a light at the end of the tunnel!! I am on day 4 of that diet. My surgeon requires us to stay on it 10 days. I was doing really good and lost 8lbs for far. Keep us posted on your progress!! Good luck and see you at the finish line!!!!

pain in shoulder- a "tell" that I have had enough?
gohelpyourself replied to UKHEIDI's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it is not as common to refer to the left shoulder. I am guessing since she is only 3 days post-op it is gas. My best educated guess. -

gohelpyourself replied to UKHEIDI's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am assuming you are referring to your left shoulder? This discomfort is probably fleeting gas pains and/or a sign your pouch is full and it is pushing up on your diaphragm. I am pretty certain it is gas. Did your surgery take longer than estimated? The longer the surgery the more air they instill in your abdominal cavity. They are supposed to try and decompress it as much but it is probably impossible to get all of it out. Lots of walking around...that will help tremendously. -

As long as you are not having pain, nausea, vomiting, or excessive bloating, bowel sounds aren't unusual. -

I agree with many of those 'right nows'!!!!! Thanks so much for sharing. I am honestly not upset by her comments... I just had to vent. That is right! This is not a sprint it's a marathon. See you at the finish line friend. -

How ignorant! When ppl say idiotic things like that I think to myself 'wolves do not lose sleep over the opinions of sheep'. -

Pre Op Diet Sensations ? ? ?
gohelpyourself replied to want2besleeved87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gallbladder pain normally flares up after eating high fat meals.... seems like odd timing for the gallbladder to act up when you are on this extremely low fat diet but this is just my educated guess as being an ER nurse for 14 years. When you described tingling/tightness wrapping around your back I immediately thought shingles. My suggestion is if it doesn't pass... call your surgeon or PMD right away. If you are experiencing a fever call your doctor immediately. Good luck/feel better. -
Pre Op Diet Sensations ? ? ?
gohelpyourself replied to want2besleeved87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was joking but liver pain can be hard to identify and localize because pain from abdominal organs, such as the liver, is often perceived in a vague, ill-defined manner by the brain. Most often true liver pain is referred to the shoulder (meaning pain is felt in shoulder). What you are describing 'tingling' 'tightening' sounds like it may be early onset of shingles. Have you had the chicken pox? -
Leaks or other complications.?
gohelpyourself replied to Nevermind's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I came right out and asked my doctor. It just so happens I knew of a recent former patient of his who had a lot of post of complications and I wanted to get clarification on it. He assured me that the patient was on some sort of a medication pre-op that had blood thinner component in it which caused post op bleed. He was also considerably older than myself with many more comorbidities. -

Thanks... She has been grating on my nerves for some time now with her inappropriate comments. After this is said and done I may just find another PMD. Someone not so judgmental and critical. -
I agree: 'appetite and portion size' is my major issue too! I think I am going to do very well. I love to eat healthy I just currently eat way too much and no matter how healthy you eat... calories are calories and they add up.

I decided on the sleeve because I do not want the malabsorption that accompanies bypass nor do I want dumping syndrome. With bypass your pouch is approximately 1oz while the sleeve leaves you with about 3 oz. I do not think 1oz stomach allows for enough nutrients personally. As a nurse I do not like the thought of the lap band. It is a foreign body in your system. There is also incidence of erosion with the band and slippage. If you have more than 50lbs to lose lap band doesn't yield the best results. In addition, with lap band you have to visit your doctor for adjustments etc. Sleeve has become the first choice for bariatric surgery however, it hasn't been around as long as the others so evidence based research on the long term effects is still limited. This is what I based my decision on and I hope that helps. Good luck. Do your own research and be an educated consumer.
