  1. Listen... I am not comparing myself to anyone. I was curious about stats. I don't need a lecture on how not to set myself up for failure and disappointment. Thanks anyway.... this has been enlightening. Blah.
  2. I already know this thanks. I was curious to see what others have lost. I am a reasonably intelligent person... I know that I cannot compare myself to others. Thanks for your feedback.

who was sleeved Monday Feb 3rd? I want updates!

That is exactly right and lastly ..... research shows that a detoxed liver pre op means less complications post op.
  4. I am almost 5 days post op and feeling great. Tolerating a full liquid diet. Want some mashed potatoes now! Should I wait for my post op visit on the 11th before I advance my diet any further?
  5. Hi I am post op one week (VSG). Looking for a local buddy who wants to perhaps workout, shop, meal plan etc with. Thanks in advance.
  6. Your are not eating enough calories!!! Your body is in starvation mode and hanging on to every morsel of food you feed it! That is the craziest thing I ever heard! You body burns calories even at rest. It is called, BMR (basal metabolic rate). You are exhausted b/c you are starving!!!

  8. Every surgeon has a plan that works based on their history with the wls programs they run. That means there is a difference what foods each patient can eat and when. Calories and protein are driven by what a patient can eat. While on a liquid diet, I got my 60 grams of protein but only 450 calories. I am now on soft proteins and was told to keep the calorie amount at 600-800. As I add vegetable and fruit at week 10, calories go to 800. At that point I will be at stage 5 and the target is 800-1000 calories, 70-80 grams of protein through the first year before making the needed adjustments for exercise. So far listening to the NUT and surgeon has worked very well. In 7 weeks I have lost 44 pounds. It's not enough nutrients... they set the goal low because early on you simply can't get in that many calories. So your surgeons estimate seem pretty on point and similar to my surgeons.. by stage five you should be taking in more calories (1000-1200). There are people on here still only eating 600 calories 6 months later.

what brand of precooked chicken strips? I have purchased a few and they taste so rubbery and just yucky. Any suggestions?

I am an idiot. Bhahahhahahaha. I just love reading about others journeys/success/etc. I love this site and I couldn't sleep last night... I read 13 pages of bio's. I am only one week post op.... Im bored, what can I say
  13. my follow up appt was yesterday and I told the P.A that most ppl on here eat anywhere from 600-800 cals a day and she said... no good... maybe right out the gate but she said you should be working toward 1000-1200 cals cuz 600-800 calories puts you in starvation mode. That is probably what is happening. What is this breathing tool? I want to use it!

    Pre op diet

I had a feeling like I needed to belch every time I tried to sip on anything while in hospital, that continued after a got home a couple days... it improved. I was like a trapped burp more annoying than painful. Try and move about your house a bit if you are up to it. Did your hubby get the GasX... if so, did it help? How you feeling today?

    Pre op diet

yes my doctor suggested to stock up on it. So yes. I didn't seem to have any gas pains. I am experiencing a pretty good recovery. A kind surgeon will try and decompress your abdomen as much as possible b4 closing you up. I had no problem with gas but I also took GasX to be proactive in case it crept up on me.
  16. Thanks Lorie! How did you get the monthly tracker about your ticker?? I want one?

    Who Are You?

I wish my surgery was complete by now but it was denied by my insurance company. I submitted my appeal yesterday. I should have a response in the next 30 - 40 days. I continue to be impressed with the Cleveland Clinic of Florida. The staff has been accessible, understanding and helpful. Everything was a go until my insurance hiccup. I plan to move forward with the CCF once approved. Dr. Szomstein was very personable. Not your typical "I am surgeon, I am God". I work with a woman who had the Gastic Bypass at Cleveland Clinic several years ago. She has had wonderful success and has moved on with her life with a healthy BMI. She has gotten herself certified to dive and seems quite happy. She never complains about her new lifestyle or dietary restrictions. To my knowledge she has suffered no complications and her diabetes is gone. Her mother also went to CCF for the gastric bypass procedure. Her results have not been quite so positive. She is about 30 years older than her daughter and not following Doc's orders when it comes to her diet. She has lost all of her hair. However, she too has lost an enormous amount of weight and no longer suffers from diabetes. My brother had the Gastric Sleeve surgery in the fall in Buffalo N.Y. Less than two weeks ago he completed a 63 mile bike marathon. I look forward to my future. I am sure I gave you more info than you needed. Good luck with your decision. I know how hard it is. I looked for a program closer to home and was not pleased. I am willing to travel to CCF for this surgery. Patty Hi Patty! I am from Buffalo.. was sleeved one week ago by Dr. Caruana. I have my fingers crossed for your appeal process!
