    Stages of textures

Elode is right - there are as many different plans as there are surgeons! Ours is clear liquid in the hospital, then 1 week of full liquids (clears plus cream soups, cottage cheese, ricotta, and pudding), 3 weeks of purees, then 4 weeks of soft foods.

    Protein!

Premier chocolate, Matrix mint cookie, and Syntha-6 chocolate Peanut Butter or chocolate mint. I go easy on the Syntha-6 though, it's higher in calories than the others.
  3. Finally slept on my stomach last night, but getting up was an adventure. I was like a turtle.

  4. If it feels right, then you belong! There's a big difference between saying that the surgery didn't give you the most ideal result (ie, you're still having health issues) and saying you're a failure at the surgery, because you sure as hell aren't. You took a chance, did the very best you could with the hand you were dealt, and saved your own life.

    4 months post op and...

I'm sorry, no advice - just a hearty congratulations and a wish for things to work out for you!
  6. I was a once or maybe twice a day eater, but I'd power down a meal meant for a family of 4 in one go. It's still a hard habit to break, to get into the habit of ingesting something on the regular. Now I'm scared of becoming a nibbler!

    Eggs and stages

Jealous! Surprisingly, we're actually allowed to have chickens in the city here but I'm pretty sure my landlord would lay an egg herself if she found one in the yard, lol. I ended up being lazy and just going with refried Beans, but eggs are still on the agenda

    Eggs and stages

It sounds like most of us have eggs on our puree plan. I know mine specifies "scrambled", but I'm wondering how the rest of you treat eggs during this stage. I'd love a hard boiled or deviled egg right now but I'm not sure how big of a difference the texture makes.
  9. jacqbult, I'm so sorry! That's heartbreaking. {{hugs}} I lost pretty fast at first (probably because I didn't have a pre-op diet), but slowed down this week and stalled for a couple of days. Protein is going down much better, but I can't seem to keep up with fluids! Anyone feel like you're actually seeing a physical difference yet? Sometimes I think I do, sometimes not so much.

    What did you say?!

I'm so sorry, I didn't MEAN to laugh at this, but if it helps it was an incredulous laugh! Congratulations on your success (and you have a beautiful dog, btw)

    Yoga's harder than it looks!

It's crazy how hard some of the easy LOOKING stuff is! Good for you for getting out there and trying it - that's awesome . I know when I tried bellydancing I was all, "oh, how hard can shaking your hips be?". Thought I'd die, lol.

Consistency, ptooey! Who needs it? I might give it a wing tonight but stay close to a bucket

    8 days post op

Not sleeping much either, but finally down to waking up once/night now instead of half a dozen! I definitely don't have your energy yet, though - care to share?
  14. 3rd weight goal met in 16 days - 275! Those 25 lb increments seemed like reasonable mini-goals.

  15. Just heard a horror story from a coworker about a friend who ate so much she "burst her stomach and it couldn't be fixed" a year after surgery. I call BS, but a little part of me wonders if it can happen!

burst her stomach?!?! doubtful, highly doubtful...

    My stomach is numb

I've got some numb spots now - and still have some from a surgery I had like 14 years ago! Some of it might clear up, some might not.
  17. I've been on Protonix since I was in the hospital, but this morning I started having breakthrough acid. Maybe longer and that's why I thought I was getting hungry, but it was definitely recognizable this morning. I topped off with some Tums so it didn't get too bad, but I'm curious to know whether anyone had better luck with other PPI's (and which ones). My intake wasn't unusual this morning - 8 ounces of Premier Protein and roughly 8 ounces of decaf tea.

    Breakthrough acid on Protonix

Thanks! If it keeps happening, I'll have to talk to the doc.

    It's over

If I need a revision, I'm doing it at YOUR hospital! {{hugs}} So glad you made it through okay

    OMG The stomach pain!

I had stomach spasms the first few days when drinking - it hurt like a beast. I'm 2 weeks out and it's pretty much stopped, but when I do feel it, it's nowhere near as bad. Playing around with the temperature of your liquids might help - room temperature was all I could handle the first few days. Someone on here mentioned being put on something for it, but I don't remember who or what. Def. follow up with your surgeon, if that's really all it is they might be able to help! Hope you're feeling better soon!
  21. I use salad plates or those little snack sized ziplock bowls with lids for everything right now (on purees), and I LOVE those little plastic baby spoons. They probably look ridiculous but I eat a lot slower with them. Still looking for that elusive perfect reusable cup myself, but one of my go-to's is a 16 ounce Cool Gear cup that looks like a soda can. It's dishwasher safe and there's no straw. Good luck - if you find something you love, come back and let us know!

    Complaining here...

That's awesome! I'll keep that in mind if I start having the same issues. Last night I messed up, but it wasn't as awful as I expected. I tried the ricotta bake, and I don't know if I ate it too fast, or ate too much, or if I'm just not ready for cheese yet but it went down and came right back up. I was terrified of vomiting, but this was more like, well, a productive burp. Still not trying to do it again, lol.

    Complaining here...

...because I don't want to subject everyone around me to it . I started out SO STRONG today. I got 30 grams of Protein in this morning - it took 3 hours, but hey, that's more than I got the whole DAY before! Just knew I could get the rest in today. Got 6 more. I really tried to finish another shake, honest I did, but I can't. Nearly launched my Calcium, I'm just too full. Doing better every day, though. Maybe tomorrow will be the day I get everything in. A girl can hope, right?
  24. Cheese is hard to barf up. Won't be trying that again for a while. It's been a tough day.

Sorry to hear that. I had trouble with cheese the first time so haven't tried again, but will sometime.

Thanks! The whole thing was oddly gentle, like my stomach just sort of said, "Excuse me, miss, I'd like to return this." At least it was good going down, lol!

I use a tiny bit of shredded cheese. Usually mix it in my eggs.

  25. Lesson learned: take vitamins BEFORE eating. Calcium supplement just pushed me over the edge and now I feel like crap.
