    NSVs at 3weeks!

    That's awesome!

    Complaining here...

Just thought I'd share - I had my 2 week follow up today. Fully dressed, my official loss for these 2 weeks is 20 pounds even (at home, in my undies, it's 22 - but I'm not counting that). Aside from getting my coat zipped (a pretty huge NSV since I'm so cold my bones hurt now), I achieved my first two weight related goals. The first, achieved while in the hospital, was to fall below 300. My second was to hit 280, because it's officially 50 pounds down from my highest weight ever. That might not belong on a ticker, but it's still fun to track since I started Atkins at 330, dropped to 300 a couple of years ago, and stayed in the same spot until surgery. Edited to add: And 3 people have already commented on a difference in my face!!!

@@atl921 and @@haleytrim, I'm so sorry you're both feeling bad! Hopefully one of the further-outs will have a good answer for you. I have been quite fortunate not to have much nausea. Could your doc prescribe something like Zofran to you? Maybe just getting it under control once will help get you on an even keel again. I had a prescription for 30 but apparently they're expensive and the insurance company only lets the pharmacy dole out 6 at a time ::eyeroll::.

    Pain

Day 13, off pain meds for 8 days, and it's nap-'o'-clock right now . Must...Finish...Work...
  6. I'd just say start really slow. My surgeon's office has this ridiculous sample phase 2 meal plan that shows 3 shakes and 3 meals (up to about 7 tablespoons). I started phase 2 this weekend, and couldn't get more than 2 tablespoons in the whole day - but I met goal for liquids AND Protein for the first time! It's like not being on all shakes and broth made me suddenly stop feeling like a patient. If you're ready to move up, just try a little at a time and play it by ear. Good luck!

    Post Op Staples

My last surgery, the staples were removed at about 2 weeks. For the sleeve, they glued me together!

    Best pureed foods

That's what I did yesterday - pureed a can of white chicken chili. Still pretty lumpy otherwise, but tasted just the same After last night's lime chicken, I wanted something different. Tonight was beef cubes cooked down in the crock pot with a packet of onion Soup mix and plenty of Water, then blended. Between what I have in the freezer now and the ingredients for ricotta bake and refried Beans, I think the rest of the puree time is pretty much covered for me. Everything is frozen in 1 ounce increments in foil wrapped ice cube trays.

    Bad breath...

Yes, ma'am. My mouth pretty much always tastes like I licked a wet dog now.
  10. I seem to already be stalling - no movement in a few days - but today I feel really really good and got into a couple of shirts I couldn't wear 2 weeks ago. I'm not worried in the slightest!

    Mmm, chicken

Made some chicken and pureed it tonight. It's hard to get down so I could only eat about a tablespoon of it, but this is my first try with chicken. Anyway, it tasted good so I thought I'd share. Sorry about the lack of actual measurements, I usually wing it in the kitchen. 2 chicken breasts (boneless/skinless) in a baking dish Salt and pepper to taste Garlic and onion powder to taste Cover with dried cilantro (I just sprinkled until there was a lot of green on the chicken) Add juice from 2 limes I didn't add additional water, but wish I would've added a little more to make more juice for blending. Probably 1/4 cup would have been good Cover tightly with foil and bake at 350 for about 40 minutes, give or take. My oven may be off. Good not blended, but not bad blended either!

    Mmm, chicken

Yum! I love those meals that stick with you! Thanks
  13. I could never make up my mind, so I'd get a double quarter pounder AND chicken nuggets AND a large soda AND large fries, sometimes ice cream, and then some. My mouth still wants all that, lol.
  14. Not a race, but I'm scheduled for the Bel Air, MD WalkMS 5k on 4/19/15. I do these every year, but this time I won't finish last!

    I wish I had known

Oh yeah - and that my nose would run 24/7, not just when I'm full! That might stop when the swelling goes down, but it is weird!

    I wish I had known

That they might not be operating on our intestines as sleevers, but it's a good idea to have meds for constipation and diarrhea available when you get home. That recovery could fall anywhere on the scale - you might be prepared for easy and wind up in a lot of pain, or prepared for pain and walk out of the OR dancing. Good to get your ducks in a row so you can handle things either way!
  19. Hi! No opinion on the diet. Still working out what I'm going to put in my face! As for the straws, I understand it's more about comfort. Check with your surgery center, but it's probably not an issue. The Vitamins might be a problem though. I don't think they'd do any damage if we're allowed to have Jello, but compare the list of included nutrients with the types of vitamins that were recommended. You'll probably find some pretty big gaps there and might be missing some important stuff. Have you tried kids vitamins (like Flintstones)? They usually taste better and are complete for post-ops (our center says to take 2 instead of 1 if that's what we use). Anyway, best of luck to you! Looks like you're doing an amazing job so far!
  20. My mouth tastes like wet dog. Vitamins? Protein? Ketosis? Beats me, but it's gross.

      BeagleLover

It might be ketosis. My husband had terrible breath when he was on the Atkins diet. The Atkins diet minimizes carbs too.

    2. Miss Mac

      Miss Mac

Even though I am closing in on my first year post-op, I have not been feeling too swift for several days, now.......drinking water only and eating applesauce and broth. Guess what? The horsebreath is back in spite of mints and toothpaste. Has to be ketosis again.

    That's awesome! Congratulations!!

    Need ur opinion please help

Think your surgeon might give you a pre-emptive prescription for Zofran or something, just in case? You've got to be living in terror at the moment - I know I'm scared of throwing up this early!

    Carbonated beverages

They said to not drink bubbly stuff, but the nutritionist also told us that it's mostly because of discomfort and some people do okay further out with flatter soda or using something like a SodaStream and using less carbonation. My friend is 10 years out from a bypass, and drinks soda to bring up gas when she can't burp.

    Pain in stomach

I just discovered tonight that I don't have that pain if I eat standing up - I don't know why. And my max is somewhere between 1-2 tbsp at 10 days. It's such a guessing game, isn't it? I wish you the best!

    Complaining here...

Just a couple more days - hang in there! I got like a tablespoon and a half of Soup I pureed before surgery (green Beans, potatoes, and hamburger - probably not the greatest Healthwise but it was familiar and went down perfectly)
