sprocket got a reaction from sbg224 in Embarrassing Question - Managing Enuresis in the Hospital?
Tell them. It's much less embarrassing to clean up incontinence products than a grown adult and a bed. Frankly, no one enjoys cleaning up someone else's urine, so why possibly subject a nurse/staff to it when with a few words you could prevent any issues for everyone? Seriously, hospital staff have seen and heard of everything, and from safety and courtesy standpoints they need to know.
It's really not that different from the ladies who start their period near their surgery date. Inconvenient and embarrassing for some, but you just let the staff know, they make accommodations and everyone moves on.

Yeah, it sounds bad when I typed it out, but the surgeon was more optimistic than rude about it (hard to show tone of voice in typed out text you know?). Just seemed like he was pretty sure I'd be a great success and wanted to motivate me more than discourage. But I was/am unfortunately a slow loser.
In the beginning tho, I think I did lose like 30 pounds in just over a month (which was like AMAZING), so it was looking like I'd keep up a pretty decent pace, and then it just sort of slowed down to turtle pace.
At least the other doc and the NUT were good about staying positive with me despite the rate I am losing. Hey - at least I'm still going in the right direction and working pretty well at it!
And it won't bother me if the doc does label me a "failure" at my one year appointment next month - I consider the amount I've lost so far a huge success, and am especially happy about relearning how and what to eat and getting more active.

@FrankiesGirl - Good grief, I'd be a failure too because I've never lost 10 lbs. in one week, not even at the beginning. Yet here I am almost at my surgiversary and 110 lbs. down with only about 17 more to go - well below my NUTs goal for me. You'll get there at your own pace as long as you keep trying.

The randomness of weekly weight loss is one of the primary reasons I started a weight loss spreadsheet in Excel to track my weekly losses. That way when I "only" lost 0.6 lbs. one week, I could look back at my average or see how in the previous week I'd lost 3 lbs. It kept it in perspective for me.

Same. I was given an overall average total percentage lost for each surgery type, but definitely not a weekly or monthly breakdown. Personally, I've averaged about 2.5 lbs. a week, but the actual weekly loss number has definitely varied depending on hormones, period, intake, phase of the moon, etc.

I had three Premier Protein shakes (breakfast, lunch, dinner) daily. If I was hungry or wanted something savory I'd make broth from a bullion cube (beef or chicken), but limited those to twice a day at most due to the sodium content. I liked to have hot tea sometimes. And 64 oz. of Water above and beyond the Water with the broth/shakes/tea.

Honestly no offense to the guys that post here, but their weight loss posts make me $#%$%^$ nuts. They lose so much so fast and it skews everything. "Hey guys, lost 60lbs in 5 weeks, hitting the gym hardcore, added 20lbs of muscle in 2 weeks." Bro'in out. Bro'in out.
If you discount the men and read between the lines and cut out all the pre surgery weight loss from people, you get a better picture. A lot of people will be like "Down 40lbs, 3 weeks out!" and leave out the fact they lost 30lbs before surgery, and have lost 10lbs in the past week once the IV fluids and swelling goes down.
Really it seems like most people lose 10-15 a month the first few months then its like 5 lbs a month. The thing that people don't really take into account that almost always constantly losing for months, even with stalls, really ads up. 10lbs a month is 120lbs in a year. That is huge, that is a whole person. That is also around 2lbs a week.
Real weight loss isn't biggest losers numbers. Almost all those people gain it back, because they lose weight in the worst ways possible. Our views on weight and weight loss are so skewed that we don't know what to expect.
I will totally admit there have been times I have been disappointed in my weight loss. Even though looking objectively my loss has been great. It is hard to be objective about something so personal, but we all need to take a step back. I can't ever recall losing over 60lbs in 3 months and not feeling miserable and starving. Surgery has allowed me to lose this weight without feeling terrible doing so, that is a great blessing that shouldn't be overlooked.

sprocket reacted to CowgirlJane in So it turns out my wife is gay...
I am sorry you are going through this. My EX was not gay but had no interest in physical intimacy of any kind. There were signs early on, but over the years it became soul crushing to not be hugged, kissed or receiving any intimacy. i blamed it on my obesity for a long time, but turns out that WASN'T it. I have no answer for it because I still care deeply for him, still miss him. I am single now and at times regret that decision, but truth is I was so terribly lonely being in a relationship where i felt neither part of a couple nor free to be single. This was way beyond the sex part, it was the whole way we interrelated with each other and the world.
Since you clearly love her, i hope you are able to give the process time before making any "permanent" decisions. This must be terribly difficult however.

I made it - just one more shake and 32 oz. of Water to get down before 8 pm (5 hours) tonight and I'll call it a success. I know I've lost at least a couple pounds, so I'm thrilled. I "officially" weigh myself Saturday morning. Might do this again next week, starting Monday. Certainly takes the thinking out of eating and food preparation.
ETA: Made it! Five days done. Can't wait for our weekly Breakfast out tomorrow. Imagine I'll be able to eat even less than usual, but hope it tastes divine.

I'm still doing shakes and then a Protein dinner. My throat has been hurting a bit so I may just do shakes tomorrow because of that.

I have a spot on my upper inner thighs bout the size of my palm that is saggy and wrinkly. Otherwise my legs look amazing. They are very fit and toned so that spot looks weird. It is annoying when I try to pick out a bathing suit. I usually have to buy bathing suit shorts or a bottom that has a little skirt.
Oh well I will take the saggy skin any day. It's worth some saggy skin to feel so great!!

Day 4 is in the bag! This has been much easier than I anticipated. Probably because I already have little appetite. One thing it has helped to point out is definitively identifying head hunger.
    One more day!
