  1. Hey everyone 12/16 sleever here. Sorry I'm just now posting. But everything went well no hernia repair. Still have soreness and a lil gassy. Taking my Roxicet only at night. I'm good throughout the day. It does hurt when I am getting up out of bed and when I turn from right side to left side. My incisions are scratchy and it's sux to cough! I've been taking it really easy laying around and walking that's it. My parents have been a big help when my fiancé is at work. I'm truly blessed. No regrets! I've went back and forth about WLS for years it was my turn, I went thru it and now I'm ready for the next steps. Good luck to all my other 12/16 sleevers hope you all are doing ok or on your way to a good recovery. To all you who are 12/17, 12/18, 12/19 and 12/20 sleevers I'm praying for you all and wishing you all nothing but success!

  2. Hi SoPeachy28, Sorry so long the holidays are crazy over here in Casa Buffalo, lol. Namely my family is crazy and I need time to recover. So why is low potassium bad? What does it mean and how does it affect surgery? I really admire you! Two weeks of pre-op, Wow! I am reading a book called "Life Interrupted" and it is about how after the fact we can see how God has guided our path, but how sometimes in the moment we want our will not his. Lol, that is so my life right now. Anyway, enough about me, SURGERY!!! You must be so excited. What time do you go in? Ill b praying for you. I am in California, What time zone r u in? Keep in touch when you can. All the best.

Hey UberBuffaloGal!!! It's always good to hear from you! Trust me I truly understand. So they say low potassium and effect your heart rhythm I didn't really read too much into it I just knew they said it could cause surgery to become pushed back. That sounds like a great book I'm going to purchase it on kindle. I understand with this surgery you get to the point where your like I want this but God will drop it in your lap at the right time! You will be doing this in no time, don't you worry about it! I am super excited about the surgery. It was originally for 10:30 a.m. Eastern time, but on Friday I got a call that someone was cancelled so it was moved up to 9 a.m. So check in is at 7. I'm so nervous and anxious and scared and excited all rolled up into one ball. I'm ready though! You'll be telling me these same things next month hopefully!!!!! I will definitely keep you posted! Well it's 10:51 pm here and I'm going to shower and wash my hair and have my last SF Popsicle and have a bottle of water!!! goodnight UberBuffaloGal!

  3. Surgery in the morning, so many other things going on in my life right now at the same time. But I'm trying to focus on myself. I'm nervous, anxious, excited just everything in one right now! To all my other 12/16 sleevers, good luck to you all. I'll be asking The Lord to protect and keep you all safe. Wishing you all a safe and successful surgery and a speedy recovery!

All you sleeved December wonders make room for the 12/16 group were a pretty big group!!!!

  4. Something the nurse told me at the pre-op visit… she said that women should not shave their legs or underarms the day before or day of surgery because the razor causes tiny cuts to the skin which can make you more susceptible to infection. I don't know if this applies to men shaving their face, but it would seem that it would. That was a surprise!

Awww man there goes my plans to shave!! I wonder if the same thing applies if we use Nair or Veet???

  5. Don't know if anyone else is like me, but I watched a whole gastric sleeve procedure (from a Dr. in Marietta, GA) on youtube last night. I couldn't believe they had such a thing on youtube but they do. It was very interesting.

Lol, I've been watching them since I started this journey on 06/19/13! They're so interesting to watch!!

Well tomorrow's our day Cabstewart! Are you ready to join the Losers bench with the rest of the crew????

  6. SoPeachy28 How's the pre-op diet going? I am so jealous :-). What date is ur surgery? I am having a second sleep study Dec30. So won't even turn in final appeal till mid January probably. I am okay no matter what. God has a plan :-). Tho it would be nice to have such a great tool to help me lose this weight. Good luck girl, you've got this ;-)

    Hey UberBuffaloGal!!!!

It's been quite a while! I was hoping to hear that you were approved and waiting to have surgery! I'm so sorry that Aetna is still being non-compliment. Your very right God does have a plan, a great one and your definitely in it!!!! Pre op diet is hard but this is week two and I got it under control. The first 3-4 days are rough. So be ready! My surgery date is 12/16! Hopefully it stays that way, during my pre op with Anesthesia my potassium came back low. So hopefully it was a false reading!

  7. It's my Birthday!! I'll hopefully still be having surgery on Monday, but I wanted to wish all of the 12/12 sleevers a safe and successful surgery and a speedy recovery! I can't wait to hear how everyone's surgery went. I def can't wait to join all you sleeved wonders on that bench!! Sending my prayers up and out to everyone today! You guys are going to do A-MAZ-ING!!!

  8. Soooo nervous!! My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow dec 12!!!!! I'm on my ONE day liquid diet today and so far so good -- I went out for a nice dinner last night with my BFF who will be in the hospital to support me tomorrow (she's a registered nurse yay!!!) My period is due today and nervous about the cramping and heaving bleeding for the next few days of recovery ... I'll just stay calm and hope I don't need anti anxiety meds I wish all dec 11&12-ers well!! Peace and blessings to everyone in recovery and with upcoming VSGs!!!! Gotta clean and run some errands before my "big" day - lol I'm 31 -- currently around 237 pounds, 5'7" (after losing a good 22 pounds on my own since October 2013) Hoping to maintain a sensible weight range for my frame of 160-170 after VSG although healthy/normal BMI range for me suggests 138-160 (lol)

You'll do great! I'll be sending a special prayer for you all!

  9. This is the best motivational speech ever! I think it should be copied and pasted every day on the new surgeries list! lol

LOL!!!! Well thank you!!!! We all need a good motivational speech to get through all the nerves and anxiety we're facing going into this surgery! We're here to support each other, and this group is an AWESOME group that does that quite well. I'm soooooo happy to be a December Sleever!

  10. Holy moly did I have a bad night last night. I was doing GREAT...still so excited about my surgery which is tomorrow, and all of a sudden, it was like the floor fell out from below me, and I started getting extreme nausea and heart was racing, and I couldn't sleep (got about 2 hours). I got my surgery time today and spoke with the nurse who called, who recommended I call my primary for an anti-anxiety medication - she had no problem calling in a script for me...but sheesh, I had no idea that would happen. This time tomorrow I should be all done...with some extra anti-anxiety meds :)

MnWin YOU WILL DO GREAT!!!!! I know that this is a huge change for you and it'll be a process, but you got this!!!!! Tomorrow your going to be a new person on your way to a new life! This is going to be PHENOMENAL!!! And you have all of us DECEMBER 2013 sleevers on your side.

I'm with you, I'll probably be making this same post about nerves and anxiety on Sunday! But we just have to say, "We can do this, God is on our side and he will bring us through this!" Take a long bath, relax, try to rest, it'll be just fine!!

  11. I feel as though when your on the clear liquids Pre-op diet it's getting your body ready for the 1-2 weeks of clear liquids that your about to do in your Post -op. So for a lot of folks who didn't have to do the pre-op diet is kind of weird to me. I would think that your surgeon would want you to experience what your body will be going through after surgery.

I know the preop diet has totally helped my head more than anything! It has really given me plenty of time to mentally prepare for this life long journey without the added stress of the actual surgery and pain. I think I'll be in a good place head-wise and hopefully better able to focus on recovery than the sudden loss of food too! Who knew? I was so upset when they called me back and told me I had to do it. Now, I am so thankful!

I feel that it truly does help you, It get's you into the right frame of mind for the post op! I was dreading having to do it and I admit I did have a few small cheats (2 be exact) I feel like I have caught my stride with the liquids. I haven't felt hungry all day, and I'm taking in more Water. I'm feeling mentally ready for the post diet!!

  12. Well time is now winding down and i only have a week and a few days left... How is everyone feeling about there upcoming surgery...

How are all the December 18th sleevers feeling right now? is it real yet or not really?

Well, I have to week to go and I'm still super nervous. I haven't packed my bag yet, I don't have an outfit for the day. I'm a last minute person, I work so much better under pressure LOL!!! But my Kids and my dog are taken care of!! I just have so many thoughts going througt my head, saying many prayers day and night for all my fellow sleevers and myself. Those who have been sleeved and who are waiting!

That was a great Question though. It seems like it's not real but I'm really ready!

  13. Hi All: I just joined tonight. My surgery is December 16th. I am 57, 5' 8.5" - down to 222 lbs from 230. I have been heavy for almost 20 years and wanted to make sure that I did not continue down the path I had been going. You know, high blood pressure, cholesterol and started to worry that diabetes would be next. I am within two weeks of surgery and it is just starting to hit me! I am drinking the shakes now. Did anyone develop headaches the first week of prep? I don't drink caffeine on a regular basis, so I don't think it is that. The nutritionist at my doctor's office said I might be allergic to whey. Just wonder what anyone experienced at this point? Looking at your list of surgery dates on page 101 - it looks like there are a lot of people having surgery on the same day as me. Is anyone else as nervous as I am right now?

    Hi Cabstewart,

I'm also a 12/16 sleever! This is is the third day of my Preop and I had a hard time the first day. I felt a little dizzy and I did have something besides liquid. I too am very nervous. I was reading a post about two sisters that had surgery and one sister didn't make it a year, that is what I am truly afraid of. I've never been "under the knife" so my nerves are going haywire! I'm not having surgery to look good, I'm having it because of my co- morbidities and trying to have a better more energy filled life with my two young children. Every time we play I'm tired easily and out of breath and I feel like I'm cheating them of these moments with me because I'm overweight. I don't want to be that mom to them, and I Amos ready to live a healthier lifestyle. Looking good is just the plus of the surgery. But trust me I'm nervous, very nervous. I may need a Xanax before surgery, lol!

    SoPeachy28:

Thanks for your reply. We will have to keep each other in our prayers.

I am doing much better with the headaches lessened. I think I am allergic to something in the the Ketogenx shake mix I was drinking. I tried a couple of others such as Oh Yeah with better results. Tomorrow starts the all liquid phase for me. We're only a week away!

I had a hysterectomy in 2005 - with about an 6 incision - I guess I am thinking that if I can live through that I can live though this.

It seems like different people are on different diets before surgery - any idea why they are all so different?

    Thanks again for the encouragement!

I haven't tried the Ketogenx Protein, I use Unjury and it's really good. I haven't had any issues with it. GNC's Total Lean is also good. I keep telling myself that We will all do perfectly fine and not be the statistic. Good luck on your liquid diet, it's a hard phase to go through. Just stick with it, keep busy and you will do just fine! 12/16 is right around the corner!!!!

  14. I saw on previous entries that both pre-op and post-op patients are having trouble finding a Protein Drink they like or can tolerate. I found nectar by Syntrax on line that I like very much. They have 23 grams of Protein and 25 calories in 8 ozs, and they are a thin drink ( like Skim milk) that are tart and very tasty. They also make a few flavors that are sweet. I really like their lemond-aid, Twisted cherry, very grape, and apple flavors. I still have a few flavors to try yet. What's nice is that they have a group of sample packs you can order for about twenty dollars. I think 10 different flavors come in the sample pack so you can try, then you can order your favorite in a bulk. I also found Chike on line. It's more of a Meal Replacement with high protein 28 grams per 8 ozs. Chike comes in 5 flavors, and banana and chocolate are my favorites so far. They have sample packs also. So look them up and see what you think. I just ordered more of both so I would have them after my surgery on 12-18-13. Hope the info helps.

So I bought a container of the Nectar from my surgeons office gives, I got the caribbean cooler flavor. OMG that stuff was a Hot MESS! It was so nasty to me. and the smell, I gagged everytime I put it up to my mouth.

  15. 6 days post op and all I want is solid food!!!!!!!!!! How how some of you all gotten through this on you liquid pre op diet. I didn't have to do it.

I wonder if being on the preop prepares a person fir postop? Originally, I wasn't supposed to be on one and I thought it would be super hard. I thought it be easy postop because of recovery. Preop has been much easier than I could have imagined. I DO want food but I'm such a rule follower, I know it's not an option so I'm just trying to roll along. Surgery is Friday and then just one week of liquids after!

  16. I'm officillay sleeved and home from the hospital. My surgery went well but I did have some wicked gas pains. I walked A LOT and got some relief. I was only allowed the lemon swabs until this morning...I was so happy for my sips of Water.< /p>

Congrats on being on the losers bench!!! Happy to hear that everything went well. Praying for your speedy recovery & looking forward to hearing about your journey from here on out!
