Lou I am from the central coast up towards the Lake Macquarie end, so not to far from you. I had my surgery October 8 2013 and have lost 40kg so far, weight loss has slowed down a bit now, but I still loose at least a couple of kilos each month. I am due back at my surgeons at the end of May and am really hoping to have hit the 90kg mark by then. Have to be honest haven't really got into exercise to much but try to get a bit in here and there.
Happy to answer any questions you might have take care and good luck on the journey

. Get your family to meet the girl who has had it done and I am sure there are information seminars like we have in Australia take them to one of those so as they can make an informed decision. Yes there might be some Hair loss but as for the rest of it, most people are not throwing up every day only when the eat the wrong foods or to much food. You don't get malnutrition with the sleeve that is usually the bypass and I have never heard oh brittle bones. I am 55 and about 6 months out I have lost 74lbs and my only regret is that I didn't get this done 20 years ago, it has improved my health and lifestyle enormously. Good luck

hi there - yes I am afraid everyone is right - there doesn't seem to be any people that escape the hair loss! I too had very thin fine hair to start off with and mine got so thin you could see my scalp. I am happy to say it has grown back ever so slowly. I will be two years out from my op on July 18 and I could say my hair still isn't quite back to normal. I find that everything is dryer - hair, skin and nails - probably to do with a combination of my age, lower intake of nutrients and fat in my foods. So I still take silica, use moisturiser (buckets!) on my skin and hand and nail cream on my hands. I don't know if it makes a difference but it makes me feel better!
The good news is that I am having no problems maintaining my weight - if anything I have to watch I don't drop weight now - my sweet tooth that I developed since the op has seem to have gone and I am able to eat my 3 meals a day and don't need to snack so much - so this is my new normal now. I am sitting at 59kg with a BMI of 21 - fitting into size 12 tops and size 8-10 bottoms - I still can't believe it! I haven't been this size since I was 16!

I am in size 10 for jeans, tops, undies (from 22) Size 12D bra (from 20DD), size 6 shoes (from 7). It's pretty unreal to me. I'm pretty happy with how I look now, except that I still have some fat above and below my belly button, along with a heap of loose skin. I hope to lose at least 10 kg more though my surgeon's goal is just a few kg away. I've dropped a size with hardly any weight loss, so the running, zumba, and weights are working. I realized that Australian size 10 jeans is a US 6, so this means I am now smaller than when I was 18 and wearing tight size 8! My bra band size is also smaller (I'm a US 34D and remember being a 36D back then). I'm still around 28% body fat and 28 BMI, and I'd like to get to 25% and a healthy BMI. But I already feel so successful and I'm only 9 months in!
This has been the easiest and most successful weight loss I have ever has. I am just so thankful and I'm so grateful for all the support I've had from this thread over the last nearly one year! I'm happy to see new people joining and finding success as well. As a group we have been incredibly fortunate, with a very low complication rate, high success rate, and several real-life friendships. It is pretty awesome!

Ditdee I am 12 weeks out and have lost 20kgs since surgery, some weeks I haven't lost anything though so don't be disheartened, as Misty said stick with your plan and it will work for you,and try not to compare yourself with others, we are all on the same journey but each of us has to travel our own road.
