  1. No that shouldn't effect the outcome of your evaluation. What they are looking for is unaddressed issues that could prevent you from being able to do the weight loss or other issues that would cause you to choose another addiction such drugs, alcohol or smoking. Don't stress about the Psyche evaluation. It's not as scary as it seems.
  2. Yes, I was told about this at my nutrition class before surgery. It was stressed for me because I have severe gastric reflux. I also take protonics every day.
  3. I had my gall bladder out several years ago.... way before WLS. Gall bladder problems can affect any of us at any time regardless of WLS or not. You can't predict it.
  4. My doctor said wait one year before drinking. Right now I'm afraid of the empty calories but I do miss my glass of red wine.
  5. Nancy, I have BCBS of MS and prior to WLS I had a breast reduction. My breasts were causing me back pain and my bra straps were digging into my shoulders. I went to a surgeon who wrote up the proposal and the insurance company paid for it all. Luckily, with a breast reduction, they give you a breast lift as well. Now I'm hoping the weight loss will make the rest of me as good as the breasts. if you go to a plastic surgeon they can write up the proposal that most insurance companies will approve. Good luck to you.
  6. CurvyCakes, to be honest with you, I was a major Carb-addict prior to surgery. Pasta, in any form, breads, cheese straws, sweets, desserts.... I loved making them and eating them. I know that carbs are addictive and the more you eat them the more you have to have so I make a conscious decision to limit them. Of course by the time I have eaten my protein and then my veggie... I'm satisfied. I might take 1 bite of a starch but that is my limit. I still crave spaghetti and meat sauce but I don't want a quarter of a cup. I want an entire plate full of it. I love it, but I'm not going to eat it. I can not go down that slippery slope of temptation. I have to win this war against the weight... I have my tools for battle and I will fight with them. Once I lay them down and quit fighting.... I will lose the war and gain the weight.
  7. Hi Izzy, I was sleeved on Feb. 10th as well. I'm much older than you... at 58, I'm married and my kids are grown. Anything I can do to help you in your journey or give you support, all you have to do is ask. Good luck. Oh, and I live in Mississippi. Janet
  8. Timo, did you find any skypers? Guess everyone wants to wait till their thinner before going on camera. LOL Hope you are doing well post surgery. Janet
  9. Natalie, we're all here to help you. Just ask. I'm in Mississippi, not too far from Texas. Wishing you the best and just remember...we're here... just send a message.
  10. Hi beldary, welcome to the forum. I had the sleeve on Feb. 10th. Im now 6 weeks out and feeling fabulous. I pretty much had a text book case but am very aware of all that could have gone wrong. I'll be happy to answer any questions about the sleeve and my journey. I am 58, I live in Mississippi and I'm just happy to be here. :-)
  11. wishing you a quick recovery and no complications. Hurry back to the US.
  12. I'm only 6 weeks out and the only time I have thrown up is when I took the multi-vitamin with iron. Iron has always made me sick at my stomach. I quit the multi-vitamin and never happened again. I have found a new vitamin but haven't started it yet.... but I will. The trip to Duke for a second opinion sounds like an excellent idea. you really need to get that done for peace of mind and to ensure you have not damaged your stomach with all of that vomiting. I wish you much luck and quick healing.
  13. Hmmm, I'm going looking for those.
  14. Seela, I'm not dehydrated but my skin is noticeably drier after surgery. Remember, we are not getting all those fluids through foods we used to get so being dry, though uncomfortable, is nothing to be alarmed about as long as you are getting a sufficient amount of fluids. You mentioned you were drinking a protein drink every day. Those are usually 11 oz each so that is 11 oz to add to your fluid intake. I drink vitamin water and plain water mixed with SF kool aid drops and they seem to be easier to swallow than just plain water. For some reason plain water and tap water all have a metallic taste now and I can not seem to get tthem down. Spring water with kool aid does the trick. I never thought at 58 years of age I would be drinking kool aid but hey... if it works I'll take it. Wishing you luck.
  15. Hi, I was reading your post about drinking the caloric juices. I can understand the boredom with water. In fact, I can't even drink plain water after surgery as it always has a metallic taste now. I used to be a water fiend pre surgery. Now I buy SF Kool aid drops to flavor my water. It tastes like fruit juice but zero calories and it makes me get my fluid intake accomplished. I don't know if you like the taste of kool aid but you might want to give it a try.
  16. Just to add... I took one week off for surgery. I had my sleeve surgery on a Monday and I was back at work the following Monday. Nobody knew I had surgery, it was business as usual. I think the by-pass a lengthier recovery and I am not sure about the band.
  17. Well done. Slow and Steady wins the race said the turtle to the hare.
  18. Yayyyy, well done. Best decision I ever made too.
  19. Yes, they are one and the same. That is the generic name for them. The brand names are Prilosec or Protonics. Presciptions ones are more effective. Take them..... they make all the difference in your digestion. When I miss one... I am so miserable. My stomach likes to produce lots of acid and then I have reflux. If you take the PPI, it will prevent the acid.
  20. Hi Paula and welcome to this site. You will meet many nice folks here that can provide you all the information you need. As for me, Oh yes I would do it again and I am so happy I did it. I had been looking into weight loss surgery for about 10 years but I never really discussed it with anyone. I went to about 4 or 5 different seminars at various hospitals in town but I guess I just wasn't ready. My husband talked me out of it twice. Finally last summer it hit me... I had been fighting this obesity for most of my adult life and not only was it not getting better, it was getting worse. I could not get a grip on it. Nobody in my family is overweight so they did not understand and at family get togethers I always felt like the elephant in the room. So one day while researching diets and weight loss on the website for the local teaching hospital, up popped an informational advertisement on WLS. I made a call that day. I went to see my PCP and she was all for it but directed me to another facility and another doctor who had more credentials in the WLS arena. I go an invite to their seminar about a month or two later and that's when the process began. Many tests were done to ensure I was healthy enough for surgery and then the pre-op diet before surgery. My insurance company mandated a 3 month physician monitored diet before they would approve. Thought there can be very real complications with any WLS, mine was pretty text book. I had the surgery on a Monday, went ho on Thursday and I have progressed according to plan. I just had my 5/6 week check up and I have been released to do anything I feel up to and to eat anything I can tolerate. Life is good. I'm losing weight (I did have a two week stall) and my clothes are starting to fall off of me. I have closets full of clothes in smaller sizes I can wear so not time to do too much shopping yet. I didn't want any complications so I did exactly what the doctor said and I could not be happier. Social situations can be sticky at times but when I remind myself that my health is my priority it all gets put back in perspective. We still go out to eat at restaurants with friends and my husband and I share a meal. I didn't tell any of my friends or family I was having the surgery so they don't know and by sharing meals no one is the wiser. Some times my daughter goes out with me and we will share a meal. Both my hubby and daughter have now lost weight too so they are keen on sharing our little secret. I would never tell someone to jump into this... but if you are thinking about it, do your research and find out everything that is involved because it is a permanent alteration to your stomach and will only work if you make a life style change. Weight can always come back but if you alter your life style and your choices you will be fine. Go to some support groups at the surgeons office prior to surgery to give you an idea of what's going on and buy some books on WLS and read them a couple of times. Read everything you can on the Internet and go in to this as informed as you can be. My only regret is that I didn't do this 10 years ago. I wish you all the luck in the world in whatever you choose to do. Janet
  21. That does not sound normal to me. What does your doctor say? You have checked your list of possibilities right? Not eating too fast, not eating too much, not drinking within 30 min of eating, etc? If your doctor is not helping you maybe you should see another doctor and get a second opinion. throwing up everyday is not healthy or normal. Something is not quite right.
  22. Bjay, please call your doctor and tell him/her that you are having twisting pains in your stomach. If you can't reach your doctor, go to the emergency room. That kind of pain is not normal. Check back in with us and let us know how you are doing. :-(
  23. I too was told to eat my protein first, veggies second and then if there is room...eat the carbs. I can honestly say that I've had very few carbs. I eat sugar free pudding, dehydrated fruit, and SF applesauce for my carbs.
  24. BJay, it does get better but it's a slow gradual progression. I hope you have gotten over the nausea because that's not good for your sleeve or for you hydration issues. Could some of that pain you are feeling be gas pains? The only way to get rid of that is to walk walk walk and it will move on out and give you some relief. Don't let ourself get dehydrated and if you think you might be, go to the ER for an IV. That will make a big difference. You also need your sleep so maybe if you could prop yourself up with some pillows you could relax and get some sleep. Take it day by day... it will get better.
  25. Mississippi Girl, Congratulations on your Surgery. Haven't seen you on the site much. Hope you are doing well. Hi Sunshine, you are in the right place. You will receive lots of support, info and help on this site. Good luck to you.
