  1. Yeah JustWatchMe, this is really weird. The mucus and what seems to be air or a bubble is causing me to not be able to get anything down. I've waited about 2 hours now, and I'm trying to get some Jello down, but its going super slow. I feel like I need to burp, but if I do; it may be more than a burp. I used a Gas X strip and it helped a little but it still feels like there is a bubble. I will let it go for tonight, but if it is persistent, I'll be contacting my Doc, because I don't want to become dehydrated.
  2. I had surgery yesterday and I'm on liquids today. I'm struggling with mucous...tons of it. My sinuses are draining, coughing up phlemn, and still have a decent bit of cotton mouth from the anesthesia. I'm thinking all the mucous may be due in part of the 2 oz f Protein shake I've had about 3 times so far today. It's gross, but I've had to spit what I can into a cup or on a Kleenex, because when I swallow it is makes too fool to even drink Water. Has anyone ever had this problem?

It was pretty smooth. I had a little pain when I was first in recovery and they gave me 2 doses of anti-pain and nausea via IV. I'm still a bit groggy, and the dry - mouth is insane! The barrium swallow was easy-peazy, I was in and out. They gave me about 2 oz of the drink and also a sip of Water for how yuckie it tastes. They let me leave with only one round of monitored liquids. I was offered a wheel chair or to walk. I walked all the way through the hospital and out to the car in the parking garage. It felt great! I'm home and taking care of myself. About ready to have something to drink and take a stroll. Overall, had a really good day and the Docs and nurses were so kind and super awesome at Rose Medical Center. They made it a good and memorable experience.

Surgery went well, have my fluoscopy, and just need to do at least 2 rounds of walking and the 4 oz of liquid. Ever one has been super awesome here at Rose Medical Center.

    Banded Today!

It was suggested to me that we may take quick release Tylenol as the pain killer of choice. You can test by putting in a cup of Water and if it dissolves quickly, you should be able to take it. I will miss my Advil, though. To hard on the lining of the stomach and esophagus.

    Tomorrow is the day!

@LoseIt4Ever, Yay, I'm so happy for you! Tomorrow is my big day, too! You will be in before me, my surgery time is at 2:00pm. I'm getting more nervous as the day goes, but I am not doubting my choice for one minute! Good luck to you and keep us posted on how you're doing.

Plopez, I'm not sure. I will certainly fill you in on my experience, so you'll know what to expect. I hope it's not too much, cuz from what it sounds like; it's hard to get the 4 oz of liquid down an hour as expected.

My understanding is that the barium swallow is for fluoroscopy to see if there are any leaks and to also get a baseline on where or what position your band is placed. In case you ever have slippage in the future, they'll be able to look at another swallow to see if there is a difference in position. Some surgeons use fluoroscopy for fills as well, to make sure the fill is allowing enough liquid through.

For all who are doing Atkins or are low carbing...you are going through sugar withdrawal by cutting out processed sugars. You may have headaches and even neasea. Try drinking chicken or beef broth every 2-4 hours, the salt helps with the symptoms. It works.

    Any June banders?

Yes! @@plopez, thanks for thinking of me. Started my 2 day liquids today and the count down is on. Not too bad, except I think I was drooling when I made my son some cinnamon toast for breakfast! LOL!!! I'll keep you updated. I will be here cheering you all on too! Ready, set, GO!
  14. lynz, glad to hear you're doing well! Here's to a speedy recovery....Cheers *clinking protein shakes*

    Any June banders?

Surgery coming up June 3rd and starting 2-day liquid diet tomorrow! I had my pre-op appointment yesterday and weighed in with 2 more lbs down. That made my NP very happy! Everyone at my surgeons office/hospital is so great, they're making this transition in my life a bit easier. I met someone in the waiting room that is having lap band surgery the same day, too! My pre-admission tests were pretty painless and easy. I have to go pick up my scripts today, and some last minute items. I had to go to a tattoo/piercing parlor yesterday to have my piercings removed for surgery. I lost 95lbs about 4 years ago and had to have my wedding ring resized down 2 sizes, then gained it back when I started a desk job. I have not been able to take it off since then. and I'm hoping that after the 2 days of liquids, I'll be able to get it off. The nurse said that it would be OK to wear it, but if I swell up too much, they will have to cut it off. Wish me luck. So, I think I am ready-to-go. Nervous and excited, just like everyone else I'm sure! Hope everyone else is doing well and getting their lists of stuff done for their big day!

    Surgery Tomorrow May 28th!

Yikes! I have my pre-op tomorrow morning...I will definitely be asking about filling meds for the pain and nausea. A slippage scares me too. When I had my C-section with son, I threw up as soon as the anesthesea wore off. Also when we left the hospital, had to stop to fill the meds. The wait was excruciating. Want to be prepared. I hope you're feeling better, sweetie!

    Any may banders

Betty_s, so glad you're doing so well. You sound like you've got you goals planned out just right. I'm have written down my goals similar to yours, it makes your overall goal less daunting and frustrating. Take care!

At Goal...I woke up like this!

YES!!! How awesome, that you weren't paying too much attention to the scale...it's like watching a pot of Water for it to boil! I'm so proud of you, you've worked so hard and you look fantastic! I bet you feel great too! Congrats!

    Banded Today!

Thanks for all the info. I already suffer from constipation and have my milk of magnesia ready. I plan on walking frequently. I'm not a big meds person, but I will fill them just in case. I may need the anti nausea as I recall not tolerating the anesthesia well in the past.

    Banded Today!

Sounds like you have a good supportive hubby at home. Tell me more about the meds you talk about. Do you just not like the feeling or are they hard to take (liquid or crushed)? I'm sure they'll go over that at my pre-op on Friday, but I'm nosey! I hope you start to feel better as the days go. Hang in there!

Waiting to begin... Newbie saying hi

Welcome Lite'N'Sweet! You're on pretty much the same path as myself. I just turned 40 in November and have 5 year-old son, my only kiddo! I want to make sure I am here to watch him grow up and I want to be part of that, uncluding being a good role model for health, diet and exercise. I want to stop this obesity cycle that I have received from both sidesof my family. I am wishing for your approval from insurance comes through quickly for you. Keep us updated! Good luck to you!

    Hiccuping?

I haven't had suregery yet, but I am wondering if it is a problem with air in your gut/pouch. Are you using a straw to drink? That's the only thing I can think of. I am not allowed to use a straw to drink for at least 6-8 weeks post-op, or anytime after a fill, due to extra air entering your tummy.
