  1. That's just downright crazy and mean! I'm a fighter so I might have open hand slapped her in her mouth with my fat hand!!! Do people realize the struggle that brought us here? What we have to go through to get approved? Telling me to "just stop eating" is like telling a meth addict to " just quit meth"!!

That's why I've only told my husband, niece and y'all! My niece because she too is having WLS. I can't believe the nerve of some people!!

  2. I will say this to you. I have to wonder what doctor on this earth would play with your health like that and make you get " likes" on Facebook in order to have a life changing surgery? :o We here have thought long and hard about going through this process. Some folk are still contemplating the surgery. This is a "support" site to uplift others, praise and encourage. There are people who are getting loans and tapping into savings because they don't have insurance to have this surgery. I think you should start over with your full and complete story. We would like to welcome you with open arms and definitely not make you feel like a castaway. You have to be truthful here. Some of us have not even told close friends and family members of out intentions. This is out safe haven and we don't need any unnecessary exposure to a social media other than the ones we choose. I thought United Health Care covered Bariatric? I think so, they just have different requirements and a longer waiting period. Try again. We are just leery.

  3. Actually I am not a "band hater" just hope to be where you are one day. I left because I encountered many negative people. Thank you for thinking about me enough to speak my name again. This obviously wasn't the right forum for me and I respectfully ask that you refrain from talking about me anymore. It took a lot of courage on my part to even post as my husband is the only one who knows my plans.

Sorry to have offended you. Im done with this particular forum that you started. I hope you find your way to what you want .

  4. Bandista - I'm with you on this. I have friended a couple of people from here on FB' date=' but there is zero talk about the band, weight loss.....any of it. If there is any talk about it, it's a private message. I'm very private about this journey, and the only place I discuss anything about it, is here on LBT.[/quote']

I hear you on that one. Only 3 folk in my walking life know of my intentions. And i'll be darn if i share my intent on FB! I feel homegirl is a band hater and is trying to expose us in some way. Just my thought.

  5. One more "What if"? What if I don't lose this weight? Will I become diabetic' date=' destroy my knees, develop heart disease, die early and not be there for my children when they graduate from school or get married? Someone once said: "Sometimes to get where you want to go, you have to do what you are afraid to do. You must be brave and push forward. Miracles occur when you give as much attention and energy to your dreams as you do to your fears"[/quote']

    PREACH!!!!!

  6. I am private person too. K only want to tell certain people

Yeah you'd be surprised at the haters. I know a girl who had the bypass and she told everyone at work. People started telling her all she has to do is work out and eat less. REALLY?!? I thought that was rude and tacky. If it were that easy for her she wouldn't have had the bypass. BTW she looks awesome!! So I choose to tell no one. Not even my BFF's know what I'm planning

  7. After the band I've had problems with rice' date=' Pasta, bread, anything of the fluffy consistency as well as anything fried or spicy. It's healthier for me anyway <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I know before my pre-op diet I did a farewell to food pre-pre-op. One meal a day of a favorite dish and the other meals Protein shakes.[/quote']

That's what I'm hoping for. I need to get this those food items out if my life.

    That's a good idea...pre-pre-op. ????

  8. Hi' date=' yes I have the exact same fears. My surgery is scheduled for Thursday and I may postpone it. I'm so scared that my food is going to hurt going down and I am also scared of band erosion. I called my surgeon today to discuss those fears but he hasn't called me back yet. Still waiting...[/quote']

NervousNancy, I'm going to need you to put on your big girl panties and go forth with this surgery so you can dispose of those big girl drawers! :-). I had a complication with my tubal ligation but guess what? No more babies!! So it worked. Nothing is perfect or without a little discomfort. Shoot "life" shows us that daily. Have the surgery so you can live the "life" you want. Now go on and tell us all about it on Friday!!! I'll be waiting!!!!

  9. I understand how people drop a good chunk before surgery' date=' because they're highly motivated to make this life change. But that "high motivation" is just like any other diet we've been on.....IT DOESN'T LAST. As far as comments about being in complete control? Well, we all know the answer to that one <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> My pre-op diet was pretty lenient...two weeks on 1,200 calories per day; lower carb & low fat. Did I follow it? Well, I tried, but didn't follow it closely. I probably ate closer to 1400-1500 cal per day, but managed to drop 5 pounds during that time. Depending on people's age, and how long they've been on this vicious cycle, they might "think" they're in full control, but don't have the number of life years to give them the vantage point where you know from zillions of failed diets, that we're NOT in control. When I was 25 years old, I'd get pretty excited, too.....seeing large amounts of weight coming off, thinking that I had it licked. I haven't sung that tune in a good many years. I'm 58, and know as sure as I'm sitting here typing this, that I will never have it licked, and I will never be cured. The band is my last hope, and so far, so good. But it's not a cure, either. And it concerns me when I hear some people say that since being banded, they'll never be fat again. I say.....think again. Band or no band, it's very easy to get sloppy. And one huge emotional upheaval, could easily dismantle what has been a somewhat smooth road. When I hear people get cocky on this site, I say.....proceed with caution.[/quote']

Amen to the " it doesn't last" part. Been there done that.

  10. I think for some people , the drastic weight loss prior to surgery is the "pre reward" before the lap band. The mind set is in order for me to get the surgery to control my bad eating habits I have to lose a little weight. A 2 week liquid diet is the helper. Trust and believe I am soooo not looking forward to that liquid phase. I know I will drop some weight and I will be happy and I'll probably ask myself "do you think you could have done this on your own?" I already know the answer......NO! I wouldn't be here if I could.

I'm like Bandista. I'm tall and can camouflage my weight. I too am suffering from obesity ills. We all know what yo-yo dieting can do to the heart. I don't want to die early from being fat, or yo-yo dieting adding extra stress to my heart.

Oh and extra plus....I spent 12 years in the Army 1 yr as a Drill Sgt. So what's MY excuse? Child bearing, civilian life and desk jobs have made me a little lazy and depressed with the weight I've gained. We all have our ills.

  12. I just don't want to get sick. Ive been to nutritionist on one other diet and gained weight. I think with banding I will learn Portion Control. Another thing that worrys me is I take medicine at night I have to eat with will they let me know how to handle that

Hi Susan! Welcome. I'm new here too. I have my desire appointment on 11/1 to start my journey. Like you, I was worried about what I will and be able to eat; however when I think long and hard thinking about what to eat is what got me here. Lol.

I don't have issues with "bad" eating, I just like to eat.....a lot!! I need something to restrict my intake.

Stick around and read lots of forums. Thera tons of great info out here. Beware of the band haters though. The fact that you're here and thinking about it again means you'll do it. :-)
