    EGS to Gastric sleeve

My VSG surgeon had said he is seeing other doctors ESGs fail after six months and he is revising them.

    Appetite

What do you mean it doesn’t bother you?
  3. I’m trying to avoid alcohol and my dietician has told me no carbonated drinks. When friends go to the bar, what can I order? I’m looking for something that is relatively common, which many bars would be able to make.

    Multivitamin

My dietician had me on a liquid multi for the first month and didn’t recommend a chewable multi until later as she noted some people get nauseous if they take it too soon post op. When I don’t feel like the chewable I go back to the liquid for a break. The liquid is Swiss Supradyn but there were others allowed as well.

    Was sleeved on 11/21

Sips it just at the start thankfully! I can do about two medium mouthfuls in a go before needing to wait a bit.

    Apollo Overstitch in Tijuana?

I have a sleeve however I had asked my surgeon about ESG as I would hVe preferred no staple line. He doesn’t do them but said he is now doing revisions on other surgeons ESGs because they are failing six months out. Idk why they’re failing, my surgeon is considered one of the best in my state, so it could be lack of skills by the others.

    Not full

I also thought they might have looked inside and not done anything (cos I had complications from before). I woke up out of surgery feeling great. I even had the night nurse check the chart that the surgeon really operated.

What do you eat in the airport?

I travelled while in the purée stage. I had soup in the airport lounge and didn’t eat on the plane.

    Is anyone else feeling down?

The problem with fluids is they say don’t drink 30 mins before or after a meal. That’s a whole hour. And you’re meant to eat five times a day (or I am, three meals and two snacks). That’s at least five hours you can’t drink!
  10. 2Shea it is flavoured premixed in bottles. There’s one flavour I don’t have as it has guarana in it. I have the clear powder but haven’t been game to try it yet. I have plans to mix it into coffee so I can justify having coffee (dietician is very “protein first!”) but can’t bring myself to do it lol.
  11. I get the protein by having it for every meal and also having a drink of protein water, really bumps it up.
  12. I’m about the same stage as you. I’m required to get 60g protein a day but the dietician hasn’t said anything about a calorie limit. I track manually on a piece of paper where I record calories and protein, so she can see how much cal there is, but she hasn’t said anything. Some days are low calorie but some can be up to 800.
  13. 2shea I use Bodiez, it’s the only one I have seen

soft food 2 weeks after surgery?

At two weeks I changed from liquids to puréed (and at four weeks on to minced and mashed). Meat had to be puréed.

Just got bumped up to solids!

Pre op I used Calorie King but post op I use a written food diary so I can easily show it to my dietician. The first post op meeting with her I just described what I had been eating as I didn’t track. The next meeting when I had the food diary was so so much better. She was able to give more comprehensive advice and point out good and bad things. I’m now committed to paper tracking.

    Rash and bad breath

Maybe best to get the strips to check. If you don’t mind my asking what are you eating that is putting you in ketosis? My first two weeks were free fluids and I found there’s not that many keto choices except the pre op shakes. I did have bad breath but it was from the protein drinks (though I had too many dairy products to be in ketosis).
  17. Mikeyy if feasible talk to some other doctors. I have a sleeve. I have top hospital and extras cover and paid only $500 excess for the private hospital and roughly $50 for the medication I took home. Surgeon, anethatist (spelling!) and swallow test were all covered by insurance with no gap.
  18. 2shea I would love to sneak in my protein water and pour over ice! Is that allowed at bars? I’d assume they think I’m sneaking in alcohol. I think maybe I need to be more selective about where I go. Go to places that do mock tails without a soft drink base and have the menu online so you can see what’s in them.
  19. Is prioritising protein just for the recovery stage (a few months) or is it meant to be the new normal forever? My dietician hasn’t mentioned it as she tends to only deal with the current recovery stage.

    I've got a surgery date

Congrats!! Recommend reading as much as you can in these forums and watching as many YouTube videos as you can from past patients as well as surgeons (eg Dr Matthew Weiner is a fave of mine). Accept that post surgery you may still feel hungry and it’s very much a mental game to eat right. Take photos now so you can look back and reflect.

    You will get hungry

Yup had a sleeve and still hungry but much more in control. When I previously had a plication (later reversed) I was not hungry for months. It was great.

    Liver shrink diet

Yea I found it very hard to stick to and caved several times. I only ended up losing one kg pre surgery. I ended up taking an additional VLCD each day to try to succeed.

    Vitamin Patches

My dietician required people to use a multivitamin that dissolved in water. We weren’t allowed to take large pills like many multivitamins are where I live. Now though I am meant to go back onto normal multis and I am testing some chewable ones. I couldn’t swallow the big ones back in the old days anyway.
